My adult daughter and I really can't eat all the food they serve for sit down meals. Is it allowed to split meals? Is there an extra charge? We will not be on any dining plan. TIA

DH and I do many times especially if we have snacked a lot prior to TS meal.
Never been charged extra

We paid out of pocket for our meals on our last trip and shared a few meals. All the places we went were very accomodating, they almost always gave us two plates with half of the meal on each plate. There was always more than enough for both my daughter and I, and it was nice that for once I wasn't absolutely stuffed to the gills walking around the parks!

You can't do this at any restaurant that has a single price for each diner (buffets, family style, dinner shows, fixed price/fixed menu like Akershus or CRT) but in general if you are not on a dining plan, you can do so at a la carte restaurants.

I've read that Rainforest Cafe has a plate sharing charge but I have no firsthand knowledge of that.

If you are on the dining plan, you can't split a meal?

I was planning on my kids splitting 1 adult meal? (they are disney adults, but do not eat much)

My husband and I were also planning on splitting the fried chicken at 50's for lunch. There is no way I would eat a half a chicken! We could get a way with a 1/2 chicken for all 4 of us...with extra sides of course! I wasn't going to go that far though...LOL

At some restaurants (current reports are Beaches & Cream and Via Napoli) they don't allow splitting meals on the dining plan.

You can share if you are on the DDP, but you will still use 4 TS credits, for only 2 meals served. Financially, in my opinion -- makes no sense.

This is the TOP reason, our family doesn't do the DDP. Our family eats small portions, and share many times at the TS, sometimes someone in our dining party will order a salad, or an appt for their meal. And if everyone decides to order their own entree, no big deal. Also, FYI ... they will not give you a child's menu at a TS, unless there is a child (9 yrs old and under), but you can request one, any adult can order off it, no extra charge or "issues". We however, do tip the CM extra when not ordering an entree for every person in our party, so the CM is fairly compensated for their hard work!

As PP stated this is NOT the case at buffets, family style, and dinner shows (like HDD for example) you still use a 1 TS or maybe 2 TS credit for each person in your party.

You might want to re-visit the DDP to see if it's the best option for your family. Perhaps, pay OOP, and book a discounted room-only - this is what we do. Good Luck! :thumbsup2

We were at Rainforest Cafe last year and my DH & I split a meal with no problem. We also have for the last several years done this there and they bring an extra plate and never charge for it. :confused3 If they don't allow it now, it has just started within the last months. We, too, don't like the DDP because it's too much food for us. Some entrees are not conducive to splitting, but the ones that can be we usually do, because then we can have room for a snack later in the parks!!!

Thanks...but at other TS's it would be ok?

Not that it matters, but my husband and I enjoy a few adult beverages or a bottle of wine, so what we don't spend in food, we make up for in drinks! So, it isn't as though the bill for the table would be less. LOL!

I would also prefer ordering an app OOP and splitting a meal with my husband, but I guess that may not be possible.

I guess we may just have to play it out.

to the pp, thanks for the info! We booked free dining. When a discount became available it only discounted the room 448.00 and we'd spend more than that for 7 nights, so it seemed worth it to keep the dining plan.

Much of this information is incorrect, the rest is personal opinion.
Most TS restaurants allow folks to share and it does not cost double the DDP credits. At Via Napoli each diner must order their own meal. The scenario described would be true in this instance, It is the only example I know of where this is the case. As TC Nala stated, a few restaurants do not allow sharing at all.
So in the vast majority of cases you can share entrees.

Anyone know - DH & I plan to pay OOP at Beaches & Cream during our upcoming trip - can we split a burger, fries, & ice cream since we are paying cash? No way we'll go there if we have to order 2 meals - can't eat it all!

Anyway, I don't understand how a restaurant can say that you can't split a meal? If I order a burger & DH orders french fries & I eat some of his fries & he eats some of my burger.........what do they have "food police" standing around watching to see if you take a bite out of the food in someone else's plate?,.....Weird! How does it work?

From what the reports were about B&C and Via Napoli, you can split anything you want as long as you are not on the dining plan. The no splitting thing applied only to guests on the dining plan.

When Via Napoli gets a dining plan party, they state that everyone has to order a meal, everybody has to spend a credit, no sharing credits. They honestly don't care if the MEAL itself gets shared. If everyone orders a meal then it doesn't matter who eats off what dish. What they don't want you to do is have someone who hasn't ordered anything eating off someone else's dining plan meal. And on DDP you have to order an entree and dessert. You could spend a table service credit just on some fries or something I suppose but why would you want to?

Same deal at B&C although it's been noted that possibly B&C is not always strict on this, while Via Napoli has been VERY strict.

Please read, all the above posts....it started with sharing of meals if you are on the "free" DDP. Like I posted, if you are paying OOP, not an issue with sharing. So no "food police"!

the OP wants to share meals paying OOP. As far as I know that is fine at all the a la carte restaurants. When you throw in DDP there are a couple of restaurants that won't let you share DDP meals. Whether the DDP was free or not doesn't enter into it.

 You need to do more "free" DDP, reseach :confused3
Can you really go into a buffet on the DDP with 4 people and say we only want to use 1 TS credit and share, and not use 4 :rotfl2:

As far as TS, and not a buffet on the DDP regarding sharing an entree and I kindly recommend and request that YOU do you research before you post, that "my info is incorrect". Good Day

Yes, if you go to a buffet or fixed price restaurant you have to spend a dining credit for each person in the party. If you're not on DDP you would have to pay the going rate for each person in the party.

This is not the case at a la carte restaurants (with a couple of exceptions regarding the dining plan). Apparently we have one poster thinking the previous poster was talking about a la carte restaurants when they were actually talking about buffets. No more sniping at each other please.

Just to be clear...I was asking about regular TS restaurants (ie. Raglan Road, le cellier, yak n yeti, le chefs, 50's, Sanaa to be exact.)

We are going to 'Ohana and Mama Melrose on the F! pkg. For those, we will of course need to use all 4 credits.

I would hope there isn't a distinction between "free" dining and "paid" dining, when at a restaurant. It should be considered the same. We are actually checking in 2 days before the end of free dining, so we will likely be dining next to "paid" people by the end of the trip.

Sorry, but that just reminds me of present coupon before ordering..why? so I get the old food...LOL

Thanks all for the info!!!!

We have split meals at TS restaurants in the past. We were both on the DDP & only charged 1 TS credit. One of our servers told us the only way you cannot split meals if I was on the DDP and wanted to share with a guest who was not on the DDP.
