We did DDP only once but we were able to share meals &/or pay OOP if we didn't want to order a full meal at NON-buffet, family styles, etc. type restaurants.
EX: DS didn't like the selections on the menu at San Angel so rather than use a TS on something he'd just pick at and not like, I asked the waitress if we could just order him a side of plain beef tacos & pay for them separate. This wasn't a problem, but we had also ordered margaritas & appetisiers in addition to ordering 2 other meals using 2 TS credits.
I have always found the restaurants more than willing to help accomodate and make our dining experiences pleasant.
