Sharing plates

I'm seeing people post about sharing plates, is this allowed? is there a difference if it's QS vs TS? and what about at character dining? I'm brand new, reviewing everything I can find, so I apologize if this is a no brainer. I have only gone once in my life and now I'm bringing a a family with 3 children who barely eat at restaurants!

Disney is really good about sharing entrees at most of their restaurants. If you tell your server that you are sharing an entree, the plate will be divided int eh kitchen so both of you have your own beautifully presented meal.

If you choose to go to a character meal, you will not be allowed to share. Most of these meals are buffet o all you care to eat meals, and every person is charged, even if they are not eating.

If you go to a CS location, you can do what you want. Many times members of my family will split a CS lunch because portions can be pretty large.

Disney with three kids?!?! How exciting!!!!!!! Once you decide how you want to dine, and kids are welcomed everywhere really, you can then decide where you want to eat with the kids. My family loves character dining with kids. These meals are typically buffet or all you care to eat, and are kind of pricey. We love them though, and find that the kids do as well.


If you are planning on staying in one room, and there are a few of those moderate resorts on property that sleep 5, as well as Deluxe options, you might look for discounts that occur when you travel. With the kids, especially of you aere all in a one room moderate, if the Free Dining discount is available, you should consider it if you plan on taking the family to the more expensive character and family meals. Those meals can blast a budget!

If you let us know some of your plans we can better help you. What ever you do though, if you want specific meals you should plan to book them early. You can get them if you wait and are persistant, but that is not fun.

At QS restaurants you can share without any problem. Some of the meals are large and easily shareable.

At most TS restaurants where you order from a menu you can share. Some restaurants will divide the meal in the kitchen while others will bring an extra plate to the table.

If any of your children are 2 years or under they can eat off your plate (or get their own plate at buffets) and there is no additional charge unless you order something specifically for them.

You cannot share and everyone 3 years and older will be charged at buffets (e.g. Chef Mickey's, Hollywood & Vine), all you care to eat family style meals (e.g. 'Ohana, Garden Grill), set price meals (e.g. CRT, Akershus), dinner shows (e.g. Hoop De Doo), special events (e.g. Fantasmic Dinner Package, fireworks dessert parties) and the family platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.
