Sharing meals at Sci-Fi

We're on the DDP and I've booked all of our ADRs. However, due to arrival/leaving days, I have no TS available for our HS day. I do have 2 QS but not many options there that appeal to me. SO, I was considering paying OOP for Sci-Fi (DH is not on board with this idea). If we went that route, could we split a meal and milkshake and just enjoy the atmosphere? Or is that frowned upon? There will be 4 of us but our 2 kids aren't big eaters at 2 & 4.

I did this years ago (like 5 or 6 yrs ago) with a young niece. We ordered the chicken pasta for lunch and split it. Hopefully, others can give you an update re more recent trends. However, if paying OOP, there usually isn't a problem.

Are you meaning you would order 1 meal for the 4 of you? You would be tying up 2 "rows" of seats in Sci-Fi for a very small amount of profit. If you do choose to do that, please make sure you tip the server as if you ordered food for 4.

It's perfectly fine to share meals. If you plan to only order 1 meal & a milkshake for all four of you, I would tip a fair amount extra.

I have the same question about ordering one entree for the four of you...the portions are decent sized, but not really enough to feed two adults and two kids (maybe one adult and one kid) assuming everyone is a light eater. The other problem is how the seating is configured...the car tables are designed so that two individuals share a bench. So if you wanted to share meals with the other "bench", you'd have to pass the dish back and forth (over the shoulder of the group in front), which isn't really all that easy. If that's your plan, then it would probably be better to sit at one of the picnic tables in the back where you could easily pass the one entree around.

lol....not quite! if you are sharing a meal, let the server know and either the food will be split in the kitchen onto separate plates or the server will bring enough plates for everyone to share. No need to be passing a single plate around the car lol

If the kitchen splits the meal that would be the best (I've found that most WDW places tend to just bring an extra plate when told that we're sharing). Otherwise, you're still going to have to pass the plate to the other group. One pass probably isn't bad, but I still found it more awkward that at a normal location (my family tried sharing an appetizer).

I've looked at the menu and I'm thinking DH & I could share a burger while the kids share a nugget meal. Then DH & I share a milkshake (oddly, the kids don't care for ice cream). Idk, it's all just a thought right now since we don't have the TS to spend anyway. We'll probably end up with finding 2 QS places in HS and calling it a day ;)

Sci-Fi is fairly affordable out of pocket but I would probably try to do something like ordering wings or onion rings or something to spilt. Appetizers tend to more easily shareable and since youre paying out of pocket anyway it seems like a cheaper way to go.

Ordering 1 adult meal, 1 kid's meal, & 1 milkshake would be just fine and no one would give you dirty looks! ;)

Sci-Fi is not that much more money than a CS meal and you could always convert your 2 extra CS meal credits into 3 snack credits (per CS credit) at your resort or use them for breakfast one morning (or another meal here and there).

Here is another option. I am betting that ordering two adult meals at another restaurant another night will still give you plenty of food. You bank a child credit. At a second ADR, pay OOP for an appetizer, and order 1 adult and 1 child meal. You bank an adult credit. When I have used the DDP, we found that we never ate everything if every member of the family ordered. This way, you can create an extra meal. Just using two credits!

I love these ideas. I've only done DDP as one TS, QS, and snack for each person and everyone at the table ordering their allotted meal. I like the idea of mixing it up to spread it out. There is a TON of food - especially since everything comes with dessert. I mean, I love a good cupcake but geez ;) I'm going to look at our plans and see if we can stretch a few things and then have all the meals I want. Thanks everyone! :)
