Sharing Lunch at the Brown Derby

DD and I are looking for a light lunch at MGM during our upcoming June trip. I don't really care for any of the CS places at MGM and was thinking about trying the Brown Derby. The thing is we will need to split since we have plans to eat out for dinner that night. Is the Cobb Salad large enough for two light eaters to share? I was thinking we could split the salad and maybe a dessert. Has anyone else done this?

TIA

Jennifer

I had the cobb salad there and if you want a light meal, then yes you can split it. It was a decent size. Big heavy meals and hot, humid days normally mix like oil and water with me. So having to go back into the summer heat makes this a good idea. I would suggest that you both have a good breakfast, so you won't be crazy hungry when you arrive.

Remember it's been a while, since I was at MGM, so you may want a more recent opinion. :flower:

We were nervous to ask - but I did! The staff seemed very accustomed to this request. The cobb salad was very, very good. We ordered two and split them between the four of us. The portion was just right to do that and dessert. We ended up ordering a couple of the appetizers - mostly because we wanted to try them out. I think we would have done more than fine without them, because we didn't finish all of the food. We split two desserts between the four of us, too.

The cobb salad is brought out, tossed at your table, and then served onto plates - so it isn't uncomfortable to split it up - they do it for you right there.

and I noticed that the service got lack luster after we ordered. We've been there three times in the last 5 months and had fabulous service the previous two times. I work in the food service industry and pay attention to service at any restaurant I eat in and our server definitely decided that our tab was not worthy of a tip big enough to provide us good service. Oddly the people in the table one over did not split their meal and shared a bottle of wine. I happened to notice that they received stellar service and wished I had their server, then I took a closer look at him, and I did have their server he just wasn't giving use the same quality of service. It's a shame too because as I work in the industry I generally tip well, especially while I am on vacation. We won't go back this trip, there are too many other options. I also think that our server was an exception to the rule and I don't think you could expect this from all servers.

I too worked in restaurant industry during college as a server and I learned pretty fast that large tab did not always mean big tip. Sometimes it was the waters and two salads people that tipped the best. It is a shame all servers don't realize this. If you have any concern about this mention you are thinking about saving room for dessert. He/she should treat you well in hopes that they can increase the tab with dessert/coffee etc. My husband got the coob salad for lunch two years ago, and I recall it being a large salad. They also served bread with it. If you are light eaters I think you will be fine and would probably be fine sharing dessert too.
