Last year my sister and I purchased DVC together. I thought it would be fun to create a constitution/charter of sort outlining how we would share the accomodations and facilities between our two families. My sister and I get along great, but who knows what kind of disagreements we may have over the next 38 years. As such we have begun creation of a fun document laying out guidelines for DVC usage. I am looking for ideas to import into our charter. My apologies to Thomas Jefferson for plagerizing the opening paragraph.

Declaration of Vacation

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for persons to dissolve bonds of employment, and to assume the relaxed posture that laws of nature and of nature's god entitle them. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men should vacation, that they should vacation to the best of their abilities and endowment. --That to secure these rights, we the families ********have procured a real estate interest in Disney’s Beach Club. We joyously publish and declare, that these families are, and of right ought to be free from the stresses of work; that they are absolved from all allegiance and responsibilities of their employment and domestic responsibilities; for the duration of vacation.

V Vacation Commandments

2. Vacation Calories Do Not Count.
3.

Need help coming up with more Vacation Commandments

Excellent idea! Will keep checking back to see how it progresses.

5. Due thought should be given to available space at Disney’s Beach Club Villas. As a rule of thumb two bedroom villas can house no more than twelve individuals.

You will need a clause detailing who will sleep on the floor - maybe even on WHUCH SPECIFC Floor. 2 Bedroom units only have bed/couch space for 8! :teeth: You might consider putting someone in charge of bathroom time. There are only 2 bathrooms. :teeth:

Best wishes -

Possible Vacation Commandment:
I am responsible for my own lateness. If I am late for an activity or a meal, those waiting shall have the option to go ahead without me and I promise not to complain about it very much.

Possible added procedure--you could write this one up yourself. Essentially it would involve a meeting at the beginning of each trip to discuss "ground rules." You never know what people will request when given the opportunity: night lights on or off, doors to balconies open or closed, ways to safely signal when somebody else's teasing starts to hurt or whatever. Each trip's meeting would start with a review of the last trip's ground rules, which can be adopted or modified as children grow up and so forth. We do something like this on all our trips. It makes everybody feel as if their own needs and feelings are being considered, and it also gives us a way to calm down many situations by invoking a ground rule.

Your right, it should read not more than 8 instead of 12

Rats! I was so looking forward to seeing the clause that divied up the floor, not to mention the bathroom assignment rules (enormous opportunites for gender discrimination discussions, don't you think)? :teeth: :teeth:

I especially like the Skip Bo butler idea! I might just use that sometime. We always say that when it comes to Skip Bo, we play the "killer version." It would be fun to have something to really play for!

Our favorite line in Skip Bo: "A Card Laid, is a Card Played!"

Fun with family can get ugly when shared investments are involved. Good luck. you will need it.

I would include the "succession" of points into the agreement, and I don't mean "using all of the points exactly in a year is a success."

Bobbi:D

make sure that everyone agrees who pays the maintence fees each and EVERY year.

and what happens if one person can't any longer pay their share - do you not allow them to use the points?
