Sharing dining plan

I think the only entree you would be able to share at 50s Prime Time and not be hungry is the fried chicken. All the other entrees are quite small. I am not a huge eater but would be able to eat an entire entree by myself and then go on to eat dessert.

DH and I shared the Seafood Primavera at PTC and we were both pretty full afterwards.

You must be light eaters. My mom gets that all the time and there is really only enough for one. I can't imagine going on vacation and sharing food simply to save credits as the OP wants to do.

DH and I share all the time. My main concern with the DDP was that we'd be forced to eat a lot more than we are used to or need to. We very much control our portions while at home and though we definitely splurge while on vacation I did not want to overdo it or waste. We are planning to try the DDP in October and will more than likely share at at least half of the TS restaurants. We always share CS and it works out well for us. We enjoy snacking throughout the day as well so we never look to be completely stuffed after a meal. I love my Mickey Bars!!! A place like Beaches & Cream is a great example of a place that works well for us. We order onion rings, share a burger and get a sundae....the sundaes are soooo big no way could we both eat one on our own after a big meal.....everyone's appetite is different but for us sharing is a nice option :)

We always share our CS meals - that way we can share a breakfast CS too (not the buffets/character meals)

At Contemporary Calif Grille we were 4 adults, and we got 4 appetizers to share - we each took our meals and just kinda shared them!! WE couldve shared 3 meals probably, but it was a once in a lifetime experience, so we pigged out I guess!! LOL

We have shared on the DDP and it was not a problem. We paid OOP for an extra drink if we wanted one, also we woul sometimes order an extra side salad or something and pay OOP for that. We found it to be plenty of food. The times we did not share we had more food than we needed but sometimes we could not agree on what to eat. Have a great trip.

No we're not at all, we never share meals. The day we ate there we had already had pastries for breakfast at Starring Rolls and we were going to 'Ohana for dinner sow we wanted to leave room. Plus we got onion rings and fried cheese appetizers for the table. They also split the entree before they brought it out, we both ended up with almost a full bowl. Under normal circumstances it may not have been enough.

I do think that when you share a meal at a TS that you should leave the gratuity that you would have left if the meal was not shared. In other words, leave enough extra for the meals that could have been eaten because the waite staff attends to each person's needs.

We have never done the dining plan (haven't been back to Disney since it started), but we have used the old Vacation Kingdom Lunch vouchers and shared our meals. It was me, DH and two preteens. We are all pretty light eaters.

My opinions on some of your places:

Alfredos:
We got the pizza appetizer (dinner plate size) and chicken parmesan. I shared this with one DD. We also had a chocolate mousse dessert. This was more than we could eat and left some of the chicken and one piece of pizza.

DH and DD shared the pizza appetizer and the pasta trio. DD ate the pizza and DH had the trio. They got a cheesecake mousse type dessert.

Mama melrose.

We did the fantasmic package and thus had 4 full meals. NEVER AGAIN!! We brought home (back to the hotel) 2 full meals.

The chicken parmesan meal was huge. It had 2 full breast pieces and a pile of spaghetti. Me and both DD could have shared one! (and had some left). We also had the salad and flatbread (pizza) appetizer. DH got a pork meal with polenta (?? I think that's what it was.) He didn't share. It may or may not have been big enough to share depending on your appetite and what appetizers and dessert you ordered. For dessert we had a tiramisu (DH ate this), cheesecake (me), ice cream (DD) and I think chocolate cake thing (DD).

Chicken parmesan. The pasta is underneath and you can't really see it.

Sci Fi:

We have shared here for lunch, but the meal was smaller. Still enough for us. DH ate the chili appetizer. We spit the flatgrill steak sandwich with onion rings. They split it in the kitchen and brought us our own plate. We didn't get dessert and were full enough.

This is one half of the steak sandwich and onion rings.

I can't recall if Whispering Canyon Cafe was on your list, but as long as you do not order the All YOu can Eat Skillet, you can share. DD and I shared the roast chicken meal and it was PLENTY to share. DH got the skillet and didn't share. But he didn't ask for seconds of anything except another piece of cornbread. My other DD ordered the kids PB&J meal.

I hope it helps to see some pictures to get an idea about portion sizes. I also recommend looking at the "Post your pictures of Disney Food here" thread and seeing what restaurants look "sharable" and which do not.

For us, sharing credits will be somewhat because we want to save credits so as to do more TS but it's mostly to control our portions. We do not each need to eat an app, an entree and a dessert. If we each ordered that, we would either overeat or waste, neither option is good. I love the idea of the DDP but for us it's just way too much food so sharing is an alternative.

The nicer the restaurant the smaller the portions. Seriously the days of really over filled plates are going the way of Mr. Toads Wild Ride. Even at 50's prime time everyone in our group was able to finish everything on their plate though one person didn't order dessert. Our group ranged in ages from 18 months to 66 years old, so there was quite a bit of diversity. As for CS there is usually enought ot share but not so much with two people. For families of four you could get away with only ordering three meals and one extra entree. You might stretch the dining plan by doing as some others have suggested and having allthe foood allowed withthe DDP and ordering one extra entree or a salad. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the DP though? Unless this is the way you enjoy eating--I think I'd drop some signature dining or pay that OOP as it may be less expensive there than if you had ordered 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 desserts?

Hi, I think you will be fine sharing meals.

My family of three adults- one male and two females - will be getting the dining plan and we are planning on sharing meals. We are not small people. :teeth:

We went to Disney for the first time last Aug and we successful shared many meals. I don't believe in wasting food so I truly couldn't see us ordering 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts.

Besides, we like getting alcoholic drinks. Normally we each order at least 1 or 2 drinks at dinner.

By sharing credits we will also be able to eat a good breakfast everyday. We like 3 square meals. A pastry for breakfast just wouldn't work. I like eggs, french toast, omelettes etc.

Another good thing about sharing credits is that we won't be too stuff and could then get snacks. I LOVE funnel cake and ice-cream but if we had a big dinner there is no way I would be able to get these things.

Have a wondeful trip and let us know how you make out.

My DH and I plan to share a few times this summer.

Sci Fi - I don't want to waste 2 credits there, but we have never tried it. I can't eat an appetiser, whole burger and fries, and still have room for dessert (and I have heard their desserts are great!)

Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch) - I also want to try this restaurant, but after eating breakfast at the Main St. bakery, I know we won't be that hungry.

This is a hard call. To me I could have shared with my husband most places had we even remotely agreed on the same thing, which we don't. I don't usually eat an appetizer or dessert, the meal itself was enough to fill me up. My parents were with us part of the trip, not on dining plan, and they ate some of my appetizers and desserts. I also shared with my son, 2 at the time but VERY GOOD eater and never once did I leave a place feeling hungry! So between appetizer, meal and dessert I think most places would be fine to share.

I will say in Japan, they would not let the people at our table share (this was in October) and were specific about what we could order. Lobster was NOT included in the plan. Japan seemed to be the most rules that we encountered, they took our cards before they even took our drink orders.

Which restaurant was this?

.

Tepanaki, I think is the name of it. The one where they cook in front of you. I think it might start with an M, and then the word Tepanaki.

I think that anyone who chooses to share a meal should also leave a tip for the extra invisible person.

Huh? Why is there an "invisible person?" DH and I always tip well for good service and more than likely we'd leave extra even though the DDP includes tip. However, whether or not we were on the DDP, often times DH and I share meals so we can have dessert, therefore, we'd spend the same if we were paying OOP or on the DDP. I wholeheartedly agree that good service deserves good compensation but since tips are based on what you order, I don't see the problem.
