I'm sure this has been answered before, but I scanned and didn't see the exact question. Our family is going to WDW in Oct. and all are going to be on the dining plan. Can my DM and I share TS meals (not buffets, I know) in order to squeeze in one extra TS? Not that we need to do an extra TS, but there's no way DM or I will be able to eat anywhere near the food provided at the average TS, so splitting a meal between us will be just about right! TIA!

Yup, you can.

It is customary to provide an additional gratuity when two diners are sharing a single meal; about $3-$5 would be nice.

I'm confused...I thought with the new rules this year that you could not share a TS between two people.?????

Are you saying that you can if both of the people ARE on the dining plan, but that you cannot if one person is not on the dining plan??

There will be four of us on the DDP in October and we would love to share a TS or two and make them go longer. My sister eats like a bird and there would be so much food wasted if we all have to order a TS every time.
Please advise.

I just wanted to clarify for my question that DM and I will be staying in adjoining rooms but we will have separate cards. Will that create a problem? Could one of us "officially " share with our DH and then unofficially share with each other or will the server frown on that? I looked at the rules and didn't see anything about sharing TS meals with others on the dining plan whether you're sharing a room or not. I'm sure others have at least tried this. Does anyone have any experience with how servers will address the issue of sharing? Thanks for all your help!

I sure hope not. Technically, the words could be construed that way, but I think as long as you're both on the Dining Plan, you should be okay.

Here's the rule against sharing Dining Plan credits with folks not on the Dining Plan. It was in the Q&A section...

They can't make you use your credits at a TS. Since you are in two different rooms, on meals where you and DM are sharing, order one additional entree and pay OOP. You can then share your appetizer and dessert. There is no rule that anyone has to order three courses.

DH and I shared two meals in June. One was at 50's Prime Time and the other was at Beaches and Cream. It wasn't a problem at all. We never had the kids share ( they can't agree on anything ). We ended up having to pay OOP for two kids meals but that was fine.

My son eats hardly anything. But he will be an adult next time we go so we will have to have TS for an adult. He can't order off the kids menu if it says we have three adults right? But we were thinking that we would just have him share my meal for three nights (we aren't doing buffets those nights) and then that would mean we have saved 3 TS for an additional meal (buffet breakfast). Can we do that. We are all on the same card and we will tip additionaly. We may have to order a drink OOP but he or I usually want water anyways. Do you think we will have problem with this?

TO OP sorry to hijack the thread :goodvibes

You shouldn't have a problem with that.

Do keep in mind that it is customary to provide an additional gratuity when splitting a single meal between two diners. This is because the Dining Plan includes the gratuity for the number of diners corresponding with the number of meals ordered. If one diner won't be dining, because you're sharing, you should provide an additional gratuity. $3-$4 per diner not ordering an entree should do.

Thanks Bicker!

One question. Can my son who is 10 order off the children's menu if he wants. He would much rather have chicken strips or hot dog than a fancy meal. I would be happy to pay out of pocket for him to eat what he wants. I just don't know if I "CAN" order that for him. I don't want to waste an Adult TS meal for chicken strips. This is kinda frustrating when they turn 10 and yet they still eat like a kid.

It cannot hurt to ask, but it is always up to the server and manager to decide which exceptions to the "for our younger guests" limitation on the child menus. Disney's usually pretty generous that way.

My husband and I often shared one meal plus an appetizer. So I would get soup and he would get salad, entree and desert and we shared all. I dont eat much (stapled) and he doesn't need to overindulge.

On the other hand ... we have to pay for the kids (both under 3 and not on the DDP.) Buffets are free for them but we have to use a meal for both of us. We plan well in advance and it works out well! Total out of pocket for 3 days will be about the same as 1 dinner out with the kids.
