Sharing and Tipping

I dont think that I will tip extra, based solely on the fact that I shared my meal. My usual tip is 20%. The dining plan gives 18. Unless I order anything extra (a bowl or soup etc...) I may just let them have their 18%
I suspect that tips have grown considerably since the start of the dining plan, due to much more people dining in TS places
There are 2 criteria that I would tip extra. 1~ my 2y old makes a mess so huge w her food that I am shamed into dropping an extra $5
Or, if I feel that my server was exceptional in any way, I will slip them an extra $5

I agree. As a current waitress, I actually have 10 tables in a very fast pace restaurant. I know it sounds crazy and believe me, I go crazy, but that is how they do it! In most other places that I have worked, I generally would get 5. I would love to get an automatic 18% tip from most people. If people are very generous, they leave more. Some, even the really nice one's, leave less. I have learned not to judge a book by the cover. I have some extremely nice people leave horrible tips, and people who are very indifferent leave a wonderful one. Also, about the amount of time people sit at a table; I have had 2 people drinking coffee that have sat for hours! The amount of food doesn't necessarily mean anything. I never frown on people that want to share. I frown on rudeness and disrespect and back when smoking was allowed at our restaurants, I frowned on people blowing smoke in my face! Sharing is no problem and I am happy to put it on 2 plates. I don't expect any extra for doing it either. I make $2.85 and hr. and I do definitely depend on tips, but I would never look down on people sharing and if they leave me 18-20% of the total bill, I am very happy!
