Sharing a steak at Le Cellier?

My husband and I definitely want to try Le Cellier for our upcoming trip. I’ve read so much about the cheese soup and pretzel bread, how could I resist? :cool1:

We, however, are not big meat eaters. The 7 oz. Filet Mignon would be enough for both of us. I would order an additional side of mashed potatoes.
Has anyone done this? :confused3 Do they cut the steak in half for you or do you have to do that yourself? Do they frown upon sharing an entree? Any one had this experience? Thanks for the information.

I have always wondered about "sharing": how do you do that? You just say "Mr waiter, we want to share this", or what?

It's something people don't do over here (portions are already tiny enough like that, haha!) and I am too unsure about what to say or so, so I have never dared to do that in the US.

Is it something they allow at about every restaurant? E.g., if I go to Olive Garden or whatever, will I be allowed to share there too?

It would help during the next trip to the US of my mom and myself, that way we could try some appetizers and desserts too!

The only place I could see them NOT wanting you to share is on a buffet. But Le Cellier is not a buffet. What I would do is to have one person order the steak, the other order the potatoes. Once you recieve your order ask for a extra plate. After all there is a limited amount of food there, you're paying for it, and how you eat it should not matter to the restaurant. :confused3

I would just order the meal you would like to split and ask for an extra plate. When it arrives you can cut it yourself. I have been to restaurants where when the food arrives it's already split, not sure if Le Cellier does this or not.

I have never seen a no sharing flag on a Disney menue. If the portions are too large it is completely appropriate to ask for another plate to share or ask them to split the meal. Many restaurants now do not allow this or they have a plate charge. Lets hope you would get the same smiling service from your waitperson.

Myself, DH, DS12 and DS9 are going in April...we have TS ADRs for lots of places...sometimes for lunch and dinner on the same day! We are planning to share a LOT!!! I prefer to try lots of different restaurants and would like to order appetizer, main course and DESSERT at each one! The only way we can do this without waddling afterwards is to share. I'm hoping we don't get frowned on, but if we are not allowed to share, we will only order entrees and the bill will probably end up being less!

If you are not going to an all you can eat or buffet style restaurant, you should feel perfectly comfortable asking to share a meal. That goes for on Disney property as well as off.

As soon as you decide what to order you could say something like, "my friend (husband, sister, etc) and I would like to share the ____ please."

If you desire to order something else on the side that's fine. Or one person can be the "spokesperson" and order the meat and potatoes. Some restaurants will bring the meal out already divided on two plates. Other places will bring you an extra plate to figure out how you want to divide it.

I am always extra gracious with the server when asking for this, since they are possibly thinking "less tip" coming their way. If they are attentive and gracious in return, I choose to tip them as though we were eating two full price entrees (this is not an expectation, just a personal preference).

There are some restaurants that will note on their menu a $5-$15 charge for sharing plates. This is not the norm, but it does happen.

Another option sometimes available, it to ask for a "half portion" of something. This is most often granted when it is a pasta or soup/sandwich type combo. The price of a half portion is about 2/3 the cost of the full entree. In other words, if you really wanted chicken alfredo and the full portion was $21, you could expect to pay about $14 for a half portion (because you would still be getting the bread, soup/salad, etc side items associated with it).

In Feb, DH and I each ordered cheese soup, and split the New York strip. It was just perfect for us, and no one batted an eye. The server came out with the extra plate. At Beaches and Cream we split the roast beef sandwich and it arrived pre-split with fruit for each of us. We had ordered some onion rings on the side for the table, as well. Go ahead and order what is right for you!
