Unless you want the souvenir I think the cost is too high over the savings, unless you eat there everyday with a family. You would have to get multiple refills to warrant the price. They used to not be so expensive, but I guess Disney sees the cost of the mug as a way to cover any loss on the cost of the drinks if anyone does not follow policy. I don't purchase them anymore.

I realize that the cost is quite high. That is why I was looking for an alternative. I think we will bring out brita water bottles from home. That way we will always have something to drink for free.

Funny you should say that. I guess that with the rate of obesity in America, many Americans feel there's no calories at McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. either.
My problem is the culture of obesity that is cultivated here in the good ol' US and the problem being created with our health care and insurance costs. I would have hoped that Disney would not buy into the fattening of America, but oh well, what can one person do?
As for one's kids, if you want them fat and happy, get crazy with the never ending soda's. And you can't tell me that the only time these kids drink tons of soda is when you're on vacation. If the parents choose to allow their kids to drink tons of junk at home, the kids will want it at Disney as well. If your kids are raised to avoid this kind of binge caloric intack, they carry reasonable eating throughout life, including on vacation.
If you let your kids drink from Disney's bottomless carbonated sugar water fountain, that's your business, but you're setting them up for a miriad of problems later in life.
This post is not a swipe at anyone in particular, just a rant about Americans and their addiction to sugar.

Thanks for sharing

For a longer trip, I think it was worth the cost for us. We took them with us in the morning, filled up for breakfast, and re-illed before we got on the bus. Then we threw them in the backpack and had them in hand for a cool drink at the end of a long day.
I do have a caffeine addiction, (before you shake your head, I've given up the nicotine and alcohol, so leave me alone with my caffeine) so its less expensive to buy the mug then to buy a soda at each of the above mentioned times.
Plus all DH drinks is coffee, so he would buy coffees around the park and pour it into the resort mug rather than waste a disposable cup (good for the environment!)

Lets put this topic to bed for the night. I think we need to go get our souvenir refillable mugs out of the cupboard, pour a margarita in them and RELAX while thinking about the fun on our next Disney vacation. :cool1:

Wow, all I can say is Wow.

Ok here it is. Hubby and I always get one and share it, we tend to share everything. ;)

Then we got DVC and now get our own pop and don't use them so much. And yes we do tend to bring them back, we might use them 2 times while at the pool.

Now I cut out sugar drinks (or way down) because it really is alot of sugar and I am not too fond of Diet Coke (the only diet drink you wan get there) so I don't use them much anymore.

The one about ripping Disney off, :rotfl: that one is rich. :rotfl2: Disney gets all their soda for free for adverstising. If that is just a rummor, they don't pay much for it. Either way I am not worried in the least big of ripping Disney off. They get most of my money as it is. :teeth: (oh and I own stock in Disney too.)

So Ali, if you want to share, do so. Isn't that what love is all about

BTW I have found most wait staff at WDW don't bat an eye at sharing meals either. (more room for dessert if you ask me! ;)

O.K. - As far as the sodas and sugary drinks: Got it loud and clear...no one cares. I'll shut up now.

As far as the cup sharing thing, I've got two takes that are diametrically opposed. One: As a Disney Shareholder, I am appalled that some of you would steal from an American Institution such as the Walt Disney Company. It's downright unpatriotic. Two: As a person who has never met a speed limit he didn't break, doesn't always get up on the subway to let little old ladies sit, and jaywalks whenever the chance arrives, I say have at it...no one really cares anyways.

Can you say "lighten up"?
And PS...that last post was meant as a joke. Didn't think I needed to post the smilies for you to catch it, but I'll try again:

Better for you there, Wend?

Holy cow....For those of you on this thread who take yourselves--and Disney-- so seriously: you've been punked, and deservedly so. For the rest of you who were grinning and reading, I was right there with you LOL.

TT

:grouphug: Good night all and thank you for making me laugh...I've needed that so bad lately. Work has been a nightmare. My time off lately has been spent having anxiety over having to go back to work (I'm a nurse) so you people...whether you know it or not...give me a reason to do something besides obsess over my overwork, under appreciated, burnt out staff. I love the DISBoards and all of you regardless of your position on the mug issue :rotfl: . Now, which ever one of you opened the discussion about the refillable beer mug...you are thinking my thoughts. We would definitely buy one for everyone because A) I'd knock DH out for touching my beer and B) DD backwashes too much and nobody wants pizza crust floating in their beer. :drinking1
Thanks for an entertaining evening :thewave:

:wave2: night night

I don't believe Disney should take the blame for why a high percentage of americans are obese today. They gave been producing "pop" or soda for a long, long time..... Way before obesity was a problem here. The problem is we are a society that does not "move" enough. Everything in moderation & you should not have a problem. My 7 yr old eats a terrible diet in my opinion but never is still & is very thin!! We also do not allow him to drink 14 sodas a day! But when we are in Disney - you can bet they are going to be allowed to drink more soft drinks than they would be at home. IT'S A VACATION!!! We will let our hair down a little. :sunny:
