:rotfl: This thread is seriously cracking me up...why is everyone getting so bent out of shape? :confused3 There is not a person out there that hasn't done SOMETHING in their life they absolutely knew they shouldn't at some point but thought the rule was silly or just didn't apply to them. Can we retract the cat claws and just get on with happy thoughts? :Pinkbounc
And whomever ever posted that the OP was just trying to stir things up...she certainly got you going didn't she? :rotfl: Guess she wins!

You know I truly could care less about the mugs and what people do with them. It is up to Disney to enforce their policy and yes they have one.

However I totally resent the implication that just because some break rules everyone else does also. I see no need to break rules, they are there for a reason and I am not above thinking they don't apply to me. So please do not lump everyone into the same category. :sad2:

AMEN TO THAT SISTER!! I bet I walk off way more calories than I consume when I am at WDW and we eat some really nice dinners and drink our fair share of "real" cokes. No worries here - I have the other 51 weeks out of the year to worry and think about what I'm eating/drinking.

As to the original topic of sharing mugs - honestly, I have shared my mug w/my DH from time to time and never even thought twice about it until this thread popped up. I buy a new mug every time we go - usually one for me and one for DD. DH will share a coke with me a few times during the week - he's just not a big soda drinker and never drinks coffee. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Now if they had a refillable mug for beer - you better believe DH would be all over it! Instead he forks out $5 for one from the gift shop :sad2:

Refillable Beer Mugs...Now there's an idea. Anyone know any of the Disney brass? We need to put a bug in their ear. Talk a bout the "Happiest Place on Earth" oh yeah!!! :cool1:

My MIL, has a saying. :sunny: "never sleep w/ someone, that you wouldn't share your toothbrush with" :sunny: I guess the same would apply to sharing a mug w/ your sig. other.

To the original question: We had the kids share a mug. They are only allowed 1 soda per day, so it would not have been cost effective to each have their own. I won't share with my kids, but only because
kid's drink = back wash = EWWW!! :crazy2:

Just don't take plastic cups to the food court and stand at the machine, filling them from the mug to pass out to your family of 6, and I think you'll be fine. I've seen people doing that, and it was just :sad2: :sad2:

Ali, you slam me all day about breaking a Disney policy, one that I didn't know was in effect, yet you're all set and ready to break a policy that you know full well about? You even went so far to email WDW about a situation like mine to get a response to post on this forum, yet you're all set to break a policy that has been on this forum already. Do we get to pick and chose which policies we follow?

Since you had the time yeseterday to email WDW in regard to my situation, why not just do the same for yourself and then show us the response when you receive it?

Wow. I didn't realize I would get so much slack for asking about a policy and agreeing not to break it. :rotfl:

CJ, I will not be e-mailling WDW because there is no need. Apparently Sammie already did and posted their response here. The difference between my situation and yours is that I took the time to find out the policy before I bought refillable mugs. You, on the other hand, broke a policy and cried about it being unfair that you got caught, after the fact. If you had read the entire thread before posting on it, you would know that I am not picking and choosing which policies to follow.

FredS, :confused3 I'm not making fun of anyone and certainly not those who choose to abide by the rules.

I honestly didn't know if there was a policy or not and to tell you the truth I'm still not sure. I have seen refillable mug threads around here but because I had no interest in purchasing one, I never bothered to read them. Besides, from what I could see on other threads most of that discussion centered around bringing an old mug back and using it. You may find this hard to believe but if you think I have some big agenda in starting this thread, perhaps you are giving me more credit than I deserve. :teeth:

Ali

I'm going to pass on the sharing a mug debate, but I will comment on the individuals who bring a 64 ounce mug from Quickie Stop to a resort and fill it up at the food court. At least if you bought a mug from Disney you made some effort to keep within the rules, but the super size mug from somewhere else, sheeesh.

One last mug comment - wish I had known early in the game there was a different little number on the bottom of the mugs so you can tell which mug belongs to which person.

Where did she do that? I thought she said it was an "understood" policy, never actually written. I would think any person conscientious enough to never want to bend any rules, written, oral or tacit, would have thought that sharing a refillable a mug might not be kosher. JMHO

But for those who do put regular soda in their refilliable mugs, who cares? People are on vacation and when you're in WDW, everyone knows there is no such thing as calories in WDW. :wizard:
Funny you should say that. I guess that with the rate of obesity in America, many Americans feel there's no calories at McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. either.
My problem is the culture of obesity that is cultivated here in the good ol' US and the problem being created with our health care and insurance costs. I would have hoped that Disney would not buy into the fattening of America, but oh well, what can one person do?
As for one's kids, if you want them fat and happy, get crazy with the never ending soda's. And you can't tell me that the only time these kids drink tons of soda is when you're on vacation. If the parents choose to allow their kids to drink tons of junk at home, the kids will want it at Disney as well. If your kids are raised to avoid this kind of binge caloric intack, they carry reasonable eating throughout life, including on vacation.
If you let your kids drink from Disney's bottomless carbonated sugar water fountain, that's your business, but you're setting them up for a miriad of problems later in life.
This post is not a swipe at anyone in particular, just a rant about Americans and their addiction to sugar.

Diet sodas are bad for kids too. The aspartane has been shown to lower the IQ's of children.

Wow, I never know taking my children to WDW would contribute to their obestiy! I am sure they will be already be in therapy for the spankings and all the verbal abuse I dish out too :rotfl2:
Unlike a lot of you, our visit will be a rare one, we don't get to go EVERY year. I am so glad that some of you are fortunate enough to have that ability.
My children VERY rarely get the treat of a soda, pop, or coke (whatever you call it in your region). IMHO, a week of Dole Whips, Mickey Ice Cream Bars, and other Disney treats are just that. It's part of the Magic of Disney and hopefully it will be a trip they will never forget.
When we get home it's back to the ole grind, for all of us. Including our normal healthy eating habits. Thank you for your concern.

lolololololololol.................... :rotfl2:

Geez, nice comment. There's nothing wrong with a soda or hamburger while at the parks or at the resort. It's the never ending refillable sodas that the kids at the pools go back and forth filling up that's the problem. Like I said, do what you see fit with your kids. I truly appreciate your sarcastic comments however. Truly a joy to read, while many people, some children, are going blind and losing the ability to walk due to type 2 diabetes. Knock yourself out!

I don't get the germ thing either.

Ali

I won't share a drink with anyone. Especially if we're eating at the time. It's just very germy and sticks on the mug or cup. That's me though. Course, I have problems kissing people for the same reason.

Alright, I'll admit it. I don't wear my glasses when I drive. I know I should since it's on my license but I just hate wearing them.

In my opinion on the mugs - if you're going to only use them once or twice (and you don't have a germ phobia like my brother and I), than share. I know when we got down, we'll each get a mug but my mom and step-dad will each have a cup of coffee each morning and my brother and I will each have something different so it'll be worth it for 9 days.

Well rant some place else. I drink diet drinks so I don't have an addiction to sugar. My kids don't drink soda but I really don't care if anyone else's does. That would be because it isn't any of MY business. No one really wants a scolding fron you.

Thanks for the Back up Terry!
I really don't think the choices I make for MY children had anything to do with any one elses unfortunate circumstances.

You're kidding right? A Mickey ice cream on every corner and a fried chicken on every kids menu. They didn't have to buy into it. No buying into it..it started out that way. They give the people what they want. Wow, did this thread get off subject. My grands drink all the soda they want at Disney (and they don't keep going back and forth from the pool..they stay and play in the pool)..but it's still not enough to turn them into Diabetics. Many of us change our diet while on vacation. I never eat ice cream at home, but I do at Disney (yummy Beaches and Cream..oh, and hubby and I share the banana split..but use different spoons). How silly is this conversation, that started out talking about sharing mugs? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Bet this goes poof soon.

umm oook. wow, here goes, my turn. in the grand scheme of things in life, who does and doesn't follow the cup policy is a small matter. along with what we let our kids have for a treat on vacation. i eat more of the things that are bad for me too while on vacation. then the good, but i don't live my regular life that way. vacation is a means of escape.
yes, you are supposed to buy one for each person, and no you aren't supposed to use it from one resort to another, but at the end of the day does it really matter? do what you need to do so that you are happy with your choice. life is to short to always play it safe!! ;)

:flower: :flower: :flower: :flower:

I have not read the whole thread so.... only alittle of it
I know when i went in sept 2004 with my mom
we did not buy the mug cuz i knew i wouldnt drink enough alone to make it worth it and mom doesnt drink soda

so ... i know its against the rules
and people tend to freak out here about this and pool hopping niether of which i have ever done
i know its a bad excuse to say well everyone else does it
but sometimes DH will buy a mug and i start taking little sips and here and there and now its my mug and hes mad
i think that people get alittle to worked up about some of this stuff
i dont think most peeple break the rules on purpose to steal from disney or upset other guests
ali was just asking a question and it seems someone was able to get answer from disney
sammie i think?
so now we all know the official rule
anyone want a banana

Sammie said:
However if you email Disney and ask about the Mug Policy this is their answer.

"Please know that the "Souvenir Mug" program at Walt Disney World® Resorts allow you to refill beverages (including hot coffee & tea) at your Resort for the length of your current stay. Please note that this program is for your Resort only. It is not extended to refills at other Walt Disney
World Resorts® or Theme Parks. Each person using the refills needs to purchase a mug."

Actually, Chobie, Sammie did paste the response for WDW on this thread. I have re-posted above since you didn't see it the first time. Obviously I knew that it was a questionable practice. That's why I asked the question. Why does it matter so much to you why I want to know about this?

Laugh O. Grams, thank you for your insight about obesity but I'm not sure how this has anything to do with my query.

Thank you all who have responded. This discussion was quite helpful in helping me plan my buget for my trip.

Unless you want the souvenir I think the cost is too high over the savings, unless you eat there everyday with a family. You would have to get multiple refills to warrant the price. They used to not be so expensive, but I guess Disney sees the cost of the mug as a way to cover any loss on the cost of the drinks if anyone does not follow policy. I don't purchase them anymore.

Enjoy your trip.
