When someone in your party gets hurt, it can ruin the whole day. However, one of my favorite WDW memories happened when my sister (6 at the time) fell and scraped up her knees as we entered the Animal Kingdom. When we went to the first aid station, the staff was fantastic. They asked us kids about how our trip was going, helped us get in and out quickly, and the doctor even talked in a Donald Duck voice! Now that I am going into nursing school and starting to learn about how to make people have good experiences in bad situations, I think back at how Disney made a bit of bad luck into a great memory, and was wondering what other people’s encounters with the WDW first aid stations have been. Please post your own stories about your experiences, good or bad, when someone in your group has gotten hurt and had to go to the first aid station.

My MIL got one of her toes either run over or jammed by someone's stroller on the wait out of Philharmagic. She hobbled with most of our group of 11 to first aid. We were afraid it was broken (because she has osteoporosis) but fortunately it wasn't.

My niece went to first aid in AK after ripping a toenail off while playing in The Boneyard.

Both of these happened in the same trip.

3 years ago i had taken my contact lens out of my eyes the night before going to the magic kingdom....the next day my right was very red and very sensitive to light and i had extreme discomfort....went form 8am-3pm with a scratched cornea so i finally go to MK first aid and they had a van drive me to local medical center....two cool things happened from this.. 1. i got to see behind MK where all of the floats for the parades are kept and 2. the medical center was the same place that all injured cast members go to so i saw a bunch of cast members out of their disney environment.....needless to say a very interesting experience.....ALSO!! the next day MK guest relations gave me and my whole family a half day pass good from 4ish-park closing b/c we had told them my story....GOTTA LOVE DISNEY!

I scraped some skin off my leg. I was fine, washed it up in a bathroom...but I noticed people staring at it (it wasn't dripping, but was raw and bloody-looking) and decided to go get some gauze to cover it up. They were actually much nicer than I wanted. Wanted me to come in so they could look it over/dress it...apologized for the thing that caused it to happen...they couldn't have been nicer if they'd tried.

I just wanted to get the gauze and be on my way, so I was sort of like, "Oh, please, stop with the niceness!" but kept that in my head.

They are absolutely, very nice.

 You had to ask about the first aid station just before my next trip.

There's a spot in front of the castle that I've RED FLAGGED as never to walk by or stand near. Have fallen of this curb at the exact spot, not once, but twice Last time banged up my knee and hobbled around the parks the remainder of the week.

They were wonderful at the first aid station, cleaned it up, iced it and sent me on my way, told be to be careful. Evidently walking, talking and geeking can be dangerous, at least for me. :rolleyes1

Our experience was definitely on the "minor" side! Thanks to the DIS, I had read about the First Aid stations and how they had helped people out. On our MNSSHP afternoon/night on 10/1/2009 it was still record heat and my DH was getting a bad headache. I didn't have any Advil or Tylenol on me like I usually would so we popped into the First Aid station right next to the Crystal Palace. He signed in quickly, told them he had a headache and they gave him a packet to take right then (and something to swallow it with) and then gave him another packet for later on, just in case. He was so impressed they would do this and of course it made him feel a lot better and we were off and running again! :cool1:

I forgot to bring my allergy meds (Claritin), and was surprised to see they gave it to me free.

I simply went over looking for a place to by a package, and they handed it over.

I've only been to a first aid station once. It was last November in Epcot and all I needed was a band-aid for a blister. The lady at the front desk was super nice. There was nobody else there at the time. It was right at park opening.:thumbsup2

When I was a teenager I had to go when I got severely sunburned at Typhoon Lagoon. The next day we were at Epcot and I had bad sun poisoning and they said if I was any worse I would have to go to the hospital. Luckily I did NOT get worse. They were really really nice. Told me to take Benadryl (and gave me some to start) and to stay out of the sun and in the air conditioning as much as possible...so we went to the American Adventure.

My niece has caused the family to visit first aid on several of our trips. A couple of years ago she started off the first day of the trip walking down the middle of Main St. in the morning and tripped on one of the tracks. Had to take her to first aid to get fixed up. Later that same day she stubbed her toe somewhere in the park and we had to head back to first aid for another band aid. Last year I can't remember if we were there once or twice for her, can't even remember what she injured. She takes after me, she's a clutz. LOL

Oh and lets not forget to mention how great the baby care center is!! WOW is that place great! A quiet place to relax for a few minutes, let the kids watch some cartoons, feed the baby, use the microwave, etc. etc. My youngest niece puked all over herself right after we had breakfast at Hollywood & Vine in HS in November. My sister had already been to guest services to get a GAP for the babe, so she headed back to go to the baby care center, they saw what had happened and quickly rushed her in and sent a CM in with towels to help her clean up the baby and told her to just throw them out when she was done. They were super helpful and couldn't have been nicer during a rather unpleasant experience!

We were leaving the hotel on the first day of a trip a few years ago when DD managed to trip going down the stairs. First stop at MK was First Aid where they wrapped it in an Ace bandage for her. They were super nice and we still have the Ace bandage. I figure it one of the few free things I've ever gotten at Disney! :)

Last year my poor daughter ended up with MRSA. We decided to go to the park we were originally going to that day and go to the first aid and ask how we should go about getting to a hopsital. Well it was like the world had stopped. They called their EMT people. And we waited until they got there at this pin trading spot (at AK). In the meantime they gave my daughter 2 pins of her choice! I thought she had just taken them at first, but they assured me it was their doing.

Then we headed over to the first aid with the emt guys. Where they decided that Disney would bring us over to the hospital or urgent care center as she needed antibiotics. So we had a very nice driver that brought all four of us over. It had also started to downpour and the driver brought us over two at a time under an umbrella to keep us dry! Very nice guy! And the same thing when he picked us up to bring us back to our resort when it was all over!

Two years ago when we were leaving EPCOT for the last time on our trip (our favorite park) my DD10 had a little kid stick his legs out and trip her in the dark. She skinned up her hands and knees but the real "tragedy" was the special horse she'd just gotten from the Candy Lady went flying and shattered. She was crushed.

The CM who witnessed it felt so bad - he'd been doing something with bubbles or light up objects (I can't remember) where the kid had been sitting on the ground who tripped her. It really was nothing but an accident and she was find, other than some scrapes, bruises and a bit of blood. What really stood out was the CM who went out of his way the next day (on his day off) to track down the Candy Lady and have another horse made for her, and had it sent to our home address! That was totally unecessary (we told him that) but SO much appreciated. It really made me think about how much some CM's/Disney cares about their guests being happy. And if God Forbid something ever serious happens to someone in my family while at Disney, I at least feel confident they will be well taken care of and get the treatment they need.

DW has made a visit to the first aid station in each park but AK (though we've only been to AK once - not our favorite) on three different trips. First visit was for stepping wrong off of a ride or sidewalk at DHS and twisting her ankle pretty bad. The F.A. people were great and gave her ice, a chair to prop it on for a while, then wrapped it up good and showed us how to wrap it the next day and gave us instructions for care going forward.

Next trip she banged her forearm into one of the poles in the outside part of the queue at Haunted Mansion at night - it was dark, the poles are black, and the line took a quick jog to the left she didn't see and had a nasty looking bruise and was concerned it might be broken. The MK first aid ladies were not quite as nice as the others - they were more interested in going outside to watch the Castle lighting ceremony (Christmas time), lol.

Then at Epcot she developed tendonitis in the bottom of her foot. The two Epcot ladies were amazing. Super friendly and helpful. Wrapped everything, let us sit for a while, chatted with us. We took a picture:

It sounds like Sea World personnel need to talk to the Disney personnel. We had to go to First Aid at Sea World and they were rude as all heck. I walked in with my daughter and asked them if we could get some tylenol as I was pretty sure she had a fever and wasn't acting right. They took her temp (104), gave her tylenol, and then told us we needed to go back home. Really??? You think so??? No help to the car, no "hope you feel better". They were just two people that happened to be paramedics that didn't want to be at work that day and it really made me mad. I am a paramedic and work part-time at 6-Flags, I NEVER have treated any patients like that. I even told my dh if we were at MK they probably would've at least had Mickey show us to the car or something. Hopefully this upcoming trip we will not need first aid, but it is good to know that they are awesome.

On our first trip to the then "MGM Studios", my son had developed a nasty rash, and welts on his leg. He was down right miserable, and we had to keep his legs covered from the sun with a blanket. We went to the first aid station and they were very nice. One nurse had a look at his legs, and then called in another. They went outside to talk, and then came back in.
She asked where we were staying, and advised us to look in our son's bed...for bed bugs !!!!!! :scared1::eek::scared1:
They gave him some benadryl cream for his legs, and we quickly left to go check our room, which was offsite.
I stripped everything down, but never found anything. :worship:
But I have been left with a very strong paranoia of bed bugs ! :lmao: The bags aren't even alllowed in the room until I check it out !

During our trip in 2005 dd needed her nebulizer treatments at 4 hour intervals. We were able to store the nebulizer at the station in Epcot and pop over as needed. The folks there were terrific - she even got a bed to prop herself up on. (We also ended up seeing the Reedy Creek EMTs and visited the Urgent Care - all wonderful people!)

During the same trip ds had an allergy attack at Crystal palace and dh got him some Benadryl from the station there. He was good as new in no time!

The staff at the MK first aid station is awesome! I passed out from dehydration about 2 hours after we arrived at the MK, my poor sister had to push me in a wheelchair to the first aid station (after the EMT's released me). They gave me crackers to settle my stomach, cool washclothes, and nice quiet room to rest in and arranged transportation back to our hotel.

Anyone know what type of professionals staff the FA centers - nurses, EMT's, physicians, other? Just curious.

This didn't happen at Disney World, but at Disneyland about a year ago when we used to live in CA. My daughter and I had gone to DL for the day and were going into Frointerland there was a small step leading to a gift shop there and I simply went face first into the floor. It scared my daughter to death at first and then embarassed her, especially after I was surrounded by a bunch of kind souls trying to help me to my feet. We wentto the first aid and they bandaged my leg and arm gave me ice packs and tylenol for pain. Not only were the people at FA nice, but so were the visitors who helped me up that day. That the disney kindness.
