I have read a few threads arguing the possibility of sharing meals while on the DDP. I would love to read your personal experiences with meal sharing while on the DDP; the times you were allowed, the times you were told it was not allowed...

Quickie background info (we are 4 adults going to WDW on the Free DDP in September), we'd like to split credits at some meals as that is quite simply way too much food for us!! Ex: The 4 of us would like to use 6 credits (instead of 8) at Flying Fish, Jiko & Brown Derby.

DH, DS13 and I split many a meal last year in August for Free Dining for a couple of reasons--- too much food otherwise, and wanted to eat at Jiko and Citrico's. Had no problems other than a minor snooty attitude from the waiter at Citrico's.

Hoping to do this again this year as otherwise I will gain 5 pounds on a one-week trip!

Last yr (FD) my DH and I were able to share meal with our girls 2&6 with no problems. Most of our meals were buffet or family style. We were able to share at Alfrados and San angle inn with out any problems. It also maybe because we had kids but last yr the credits were pulled and we were able to add 1 more meal in. I have heard that they have gotten sticked this yr. My 3 yr old and I will be eathing at Mama Melrose this yr and hopefully they will let her share with me. If not I will just order her a meal.

We ate at Yachtsman last year. Although technically we did not share, but in a way we did. My husband used the 2 credits for his meal and I paid cash for mine. I just bought a less expensive entree, and that was all. I ate my husband's appetizer and he ate his entree and desert. It cost only about $28 and we saved 2 TS. But we did tip very well because the waitress was so very nice and did not try to make us feel goofy for doing it.

So glad to see so many others that have successfully shared meals on the DDP. My DH and I are active seniors w/a few minor health problems not helped by overeating and have shared the meal plan on three trips. We get to have CS every b'fast and and TS at lunch and dinner by sharing. We usually eat at the "nicer" places in the parks and have only been hassled once...at the Coral Reef in EPCOT. A bit of a discussion later, promise of additional tip based on what would be normal for two full meals, and a couple of glasses of wine later, they let us split our meal. Most cast members (IMHO) really want you to completely enjoy your meal, and relying on your good sense to tip appropriately will still let you tack on a thing here and there (Cap'n Jacks lobster add-on, for instance). Spoodles used to have an add-on scallops that was to die for, but I see they've changed their menu. Anyway, assume you can share, but always ask your server what's acceptable. Let's face it, you have to have the appetite of "growing boys" to eat what are pretty fair sized appetizers, big entrees, and bigger desserts at most of the restaurants. Oh, Prime Time even lets you share their special Holiday meals for one TS (turkey with all the trimmings, etc. at T'giving.)

LuceB - I completely understand your point. The places we plan on sharing meals (Jiko, Flying Fish, Brown Derby), all four of us will be having a glass of wine, champagne or a cocktail so I sincerely hope that is something we can get away with. If liquor ain,t gonna do the trick, I'll just pay for a cheese plate OOP. The cheese plate at Jiko was quite good, so you won,t have to twist my arm.

I am going with my 4yr old and have been there before. I KNOW we could share a meal there -obviously with 2 adult TS credits. Would this cause any problem or embarrassment?

We're going to the castle for 2TS meals each! I love the idea of going and just paying for one meal!!! It helps spread out the credits so we can have a TS each night! Thanks for the wonderful idea

There were a couple time me and DBF shared at the Pepper Market (GREAT food for a counter service btw) Since you go up and choose the food at your own discretion and they just stamp what you ordered on your card, no one really knows whos actually eating what. I HIGHLY suggest the nachos there... HUGE portions and soooo good!

We went last August with the DDP and had no problems whatsoever with sharing. At the Plaza in MK we shared the Plaza Club and a banana split. At LeCellier, we shared the Beefsteak Tomato Stack appetizer and the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich. I believe we had the Due of Sorbet for dessert there. At DTD at Earl of Sandwich, we shared the Hawaiian BBQ sandwich. At Sci-Fi at MGM we shared the Mixed Greens salad and the BBQ Chicken Breast Sandwich and had a sundae for dessert. At Teppanyaki, we both ordered our own Garden Salad because we love the ginger dressing, but we shared the Tonosama entree. We split an ice cream for dessert. We ate a second dinner at the Plaza and again had no problem sharing. We took advantage of sharing meals in order to do the luau. We also ate at Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's, but everyone was charged a TS there because of being buffets.

The one place that really gave us grief was at Restaurant Marrakesh where we shared a Sultan Sampler. The server would not even acknowledge me and spoke only to DH. I asked for water and he (server) would not fill it. DH had to ask for water for me. It was really unbelievable and completely insulting. The food was awful and we will not waste our time there again. Don't know how much that had to do with sharing on DDP versus cultural differences?

Anyway, at Crystal Palace and at Sci-Fi, they completely plated our shared portions separately. Everywhere else, we needed to ask for plates but were very graciously treated and mentioned up front that we had DDP and planned on sharing.

Don't stress and enjoy your trip!

So, I think sharing among adults would be a great way to save TS credits to be able to go to one of the signature dining experiences, but sharing with your child won't help.

Many days we will be doing more than 1 TS. Trying to avoid having to pay out of my pocket as much as possible.

I might be wrong but I believe CRT is a 'family style' served meal (sort of like a buffet where they bring you plates full of food) - so you cannot share here. Because you aren't actually ordering from a menu per person - you are just all sharing the plates full that they bring to you (unlimited).

Some TS places where you actually order specific meals is where you might be able to order one meal and share.

Just wanted to let you know that we will be seeing Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Saturday night. The Florida Marlins baseball team has a concert after every Super Saturday game, and she's the concert this week!

Any buffets or preplated are not shareable. Also, at some places, there is an entertainment surcharge for anyone not ordering (LTT is one.)

CRT is a package that includes the photo package. I would be very surprised to hear they allowed any type of sharing there.

IMO, the portions at Brown Derby and Flying Fish are not large enough for sharing. The portions are right-sized there for one, IMHO. Haven't done Jiko, so can't say there.

I did share a meal with DH at AP. After a week of DDP, just couldn't do another full meal. I ordered my own portobello soup (that is soooo good!) and we shared the buffalo. It is such a large portion of meat! We were dining with friends who ordered a birthday cake, so dessert wasn't an issue.

I'm not sure, but I think this person may have meant that they would pay for one person and use dining plan for the other? Maybe not, but that's how I interpreted it.

My daughters and I can not eat an app, entree and desert. Last year we did alot of sharing. We did this at Kona, LeCellar, Wolf gang puck and Chef De France. We were a party of 6 using 5 ddp, except Kona just DD ands I shared one meal( still too much food). Has anyone been told they can not share? If so where?

Nothing in the Dining Plan rules explicitly states that two guests, both on the Dining Plan, cannot share one meal.
