Great thread. FInally gettign a chance to read it.

Jeff - You reminded me. At some poitn, 20 mile mat? DH adn our hometown were annouced. It took a minuite to realzie it adn DH wasn't; even sure he heard it, but very cool!

Dh's pre-race card and tunes. My own personal pep rally.

Seeing any WISHer, on teh course or scream teaming, gives me a huge lift and makes it feel like comming home no matter where I am.

Seeing Pooh, Tigger adn Eeyore in DHS.

Running with 3 other WISHers. Usually it's just a passing thing. Running with Roxanne, Matt adn CLaire was just awseome!

Seeign WISHers in parks. It never ceases to amaze me that in such a huge pklacve, I can runinto friendly faces anywhere in the world. SOmething that wouldn't usually happen if you tried to do it. :goodvibes

Walking in to Wilderness Lodge for teh first time

Watching DH after his RIchard Petty Drivign Experience

Seeing my family on teh course

Seeign WISHers coming through our water station

One of the best and funniest moments came when Steve and I were by ourselves at the Beach Club, cheering on runners for the full. I had just finished helping Anne and Karen at the famous turnaround WISH stop. We had extra oranges, wet cloths, candy, and pretzels to give out. So, I took them with me and headed to the Beach Club/Boardwalk area to hand out.

So many runners were greatful to get the goodies. Steve and I were also able to get ice from one of the snack shops to hand out as it was really getting warm toward the end of the race. Some guy comes up to me after watching me yell for the runners and handing out all of this stuff. He said he was a runner but couldn't participate in the events that weekend. He said he had been watching me and was just in awe of me helping the runners and he thought I was the ultimate spectator. He then asks if I would marry him. :rotfl: He said he couldn't get his wife to support him in his training efforts, let alone offer to help anyone like this. I told him that I was just one of many WISHers offering support to fellow runners throughout the course. He then asked if anyone else might be interested in his offer. :teeth:

In case you missed her, Susie can be seen at the very end of this video. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Jeff -- I saw Susie in the video!

I watched several videos and sit here with a Goofy grin wiping away tears -- thinking about that weekend. I have never had the experience of having my family support me on a marathon course. When I first started marathoning, the kids were too small for my husband to try to corral them while getting from place-to-place on the course to see me. Now they are too old and have schedules filled with swim meets and school and church activities, so I typically travel to races alone.

You cannot imagine what it means to me to turn a corner or crest a hill and see a familiar face light up and cheer, "Go Wendy!" or "Go WISHer!!!" You all mean so much to me! You are my running family!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Didya all know Wendy really likes her coffee? She can be bothered with Gatorade, Poweraide, or water. See for yourself.

Jeff, you are too funny! Yeah, I carried my cup with me to the 5K so I could hit up the free drinks on the way back through the food court. That's how cheap I am! :rotfl:

Gee, Wendy, I have a few nice coffee mugs you could have borrowed! She is definitely NOT cheap.......these are gifts I received from Wendy for training with her. Notice they even have the dates.....although I don't think we'll EVER forget our 20-miler!

OK - this is actually Anne's warm fuzzy story......

During the half when we were walking back towards Epcot I noticed a young man off to the side, obviously not doing well. He was limping a bit, and just had that tired, OMG when is this going to be over look. So I said HI. Asked him where he was from. Introduced myself, Anne, and DH Jim. Started talking......asked him if we were bothering him and he responded - Oh no, this is helping a lot. Well, you know Anne, she only has friends she hasn't met yet. Jim and I pulled a bit ahead at that ramp about mile 10 or is it 11? Anyway, Anne stayed with this young man, encouraging him along the way. Just the other day she got a card from him - somehow, someway, he traced her down and sent her a lovely thank you with a picture of him with his medal. How cool is that?? And, really, that is what WISH is all about. Helping each other!

Thanks for posting that Pat!

I saw his family at the BC while cheering for the Full. I told them her name and what state she lived in. How they found her is beyond me!

If she was in his pic, he could have looked up her number. COol that the family was so appreciative too.

That is a cool story about Anne!! Anne told me about this guy after I hobbled thru the full. I asked her how her half was and she told me about finishing with him. Anne rocks!!
