Since I've started swapping I'm becoming a much more sophisticated scrapper (and a poorer one with a new cricut and a few cartriges and some bazzil that I'd never even heard of before this and on and on). I've noticed that throughout the scrapbook and swap boards and on some 'other' boards I've seen, things get 'altered' a lot. This was a term I had not previously heard and the things I've heard about now are amazing. I'd like to hear what people are altering and the basics of how they do it - and perhaps a pic or two :)

Personally, I have a lot of extended family and friends I like to give small handmade gifts to at Christmas from my son and I think this could be a great forum for us to share things we can alter.

I'm a tole painter for many years and have painted on pretty much anything so I'd really love to see what everyone does with scrapping altering!

Thanks in advance for any input!

Maria

My favorite altered gift is a journal. I have the B&N Discount Card and they have plain cover journals. I can get them for as little as $3. 1/2 yard of fabric, paper, primas, letters from my cricut and modge podge and I'm good to go

I have done picture frames, mdf letters, clipboards, wooden trays, canasters, and picture canvases. I will try and post pictures soon.

clipboards, paint cans, journals, etc.....

Check out www.twopeasinabucket.com go to peanut gallery and the do a search for altered under the search gallery. There are tons of things!

my biggest tool for altering is Mod Podge. I use it on the cans and the clipboards to glue paper down and seal them.
Basic steps are to sand the clipboard lightly with fine grit sand paper, coat the board with a thin layer of Mod Podge, adhere the paper and any embellishments, then seal with several thin coats of Mod Podge. It was actually really easy, I just need a bit more patience letting the glue dry. I rushed these for our trip and the stickers didn't stay on.

here are my kids clipboards form our last WDW trip.

These are amazing! And glad to see I'm not the only one who keeps the names off the internet :) I'm a little nutty about that. What are you using to apply the modge podge? I've never used it although I've used paint varnish for acrylics so I assume it is a similar process.

What did you use the clipboards for? Autographs I'm assuming (dogs woke me up and I'm dense).

Thanks for sharing! I searched on twopeas and there are 7378 results - I had no idea!

I'm not sure what others use to apply Modge Podge but I use a sponge brush. I've made clipboards, picture frames, wood letters, explosion boxes, tins, etc. I'm still wanting to make altered lunch boxes but haven't thought of an idea yet that I like to do some.

My project now, along with 2 Disney albums, a dog album, a heritage album, a school album (I need to scrap full-time right and quit my job! LOL), is to make 4 frames for my dogs. I'd like these to be done for my mom's birthday in August, but I have a feeling these will be a Christmas gift.

I love my sponge brushes for modge podge. I always stock up when Mike's or Jo's has them 15 for $1

This is great stuff. When you modge podge onto a picture frame, do you wrap the paper on the edges or just cut it even and paint or embellish the edges? I'm all thumbs on some of that.

You're not nutty!! DH is in the internet security field so I know all about the bad stuff that goes on. I try to keep the kids info private, I don't post where I live, I don't use my given name (just a nickname), etc....

I use the black foam brushes for the Mod Podge, they give a pretty smooth finish and clean up easy. If they get trashed I don't feel bad tossing them either. MP is a really easy medium to work with, it stinks a little especially the glitter one but it's very user friendly.
I used the clipboards for autograph tags. Each of the kids has a book and I make tags for the autographs mostly 4 x 5 in size. The clipboards had a nice sturdy surface, the only character to have trouble was Eeyore, he couldn't get it on his nose.

I wrap the edges personally, but you can paint the edge, or glue ribbon around the edge. I bought some cute frames at the dollar spot at target. and some small ones at the dollar store. They are a breeze to make!

My DH is also an IT guy who does a lot of web work so he also has some of that info - hence the child's name and pics stay offline! I'm ok with my first name on here occasionally and hometown but that's about it for public viewing

Ooh - I was thinking wooden frames to wrap but are these plastic ones you are doing? That would probably be easier to wrap......have to try this.

Are you modge podging (is that a word?) the photos too on other items?

The frames from Target were wood but the ones from the dollar store were pressboard and had a paper cover on them.

I didn't mod podge the pics but I guess you can, I just never tried.
I also did some altered wooden blocks to make photo cubes. Hang on a bit and I'll take some pics.

FOr one of my DD's bday parties when she was about ten, we got the wooden frames at Michael's for $1 on sale and each of the girls modge poged a frame using all shades and colors of tissue paper. They turned out GREAT! And the girls took the frames home with them.

On a separate note -- have any of you done anything with the clear plastic paint buckets? Do you have pictures to share?
