I'm thinking of staying at the WL, but I've never seen the resort in person. What do the views look out onto? Also, since I'm assuming this area is rather heavily wooded, are there a lot of bugs here? Do I need an industrial sized can of bug spray? My 5 year old must be awfully sweet because bugs LOVE him. I've read the thread about the WL, but would like clarification on these specific questions. Feel free to throw in any other info you think I'll need. Thanks!

We stayed at the WL in October.

It is wooded but I didn't encounter any bugs- only at the MK the in the evening when we were there for MNSSHP- but not walking around the grounds of the Lodge.

The rooms are labeled as Standard, Woods, or Courtyard.

The Standard rooms may not have much of a view- might have some trees or look over the parking lot.

Woods View are just that- more woodsy- some overlook the Villas and the 'quiet pool', others the otter pond and a few even have a view of trees and the castle in the distance.

Courtyard rooms overlook the pook, stream, guyser, and Bay Lake.

I really enjoyed the peacefulness of the grounds and being able to take the boat to the MK.

Hope that helps!

The standard rooms usually have a view of roof tops or the parking area, maybe not direct but it is within site. However, some standard rooms also have an added bonus of a view of the castle if you get just the right one. The woods view rooms have just that, a view of the woods that surround the lodge. In my opinion, these are the quiet rooms as no one should be outside you balcony. Then there are the courtyard views which overlook the inner courtyard. Great for people watching and the landscape is spectacular.

As far as bugs go, they have never had a problem as far as I can remember. We usually go in July and have never had any problem with bugs and bites. I don't think you would need an industrial size can, but may want to have some just for safety sake. Especially if you go onto the trails, I am sure the bug control there is not as good as it is around the lodge itself.

Hope this helps.

Views vary. The standard view generally looks out over the front of the Lodge and parking area (sometimes a rooftop view as well). The woods view is off the one side of the resort that is wooded. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of the Contemporary. monorail, and MK fireworks on this side (depending on location). I believe there is a Lodge view now that looks out to the other side where the WL Villas sit, so you're basically looking at the other building/quiet pool. The courtyard view looks down at the pool/spa area and beyond - which includes the water. I really enjoyed having a Courtyard view during our last stay.

I don't remember having much of a bug problem due to the trees at WL. There were some little biting flies of some sort that were a nuisance, but I don't think they were a WL thing, but more of a Florida thing.

The Wilderness FAQ Thread has a photo gallery made up from different pictures taken from guest rooms and balconies just click on the link below and look and some of the views available.
Photo's from guest that have stayed at WL

I am a Native Floridian, so bugs can be a problem, but not any more at WL then any other Resort. Just be sure to take a good repellent with you. Especially at dusk and if your going to be out at night (or very early in the morning)
