Share how your love for Disney World started.....

DH and I each went to WDW as kids, but it wasn't until we had our own kids that we truly fell in love with Disney. Our oldest said many times that she wanted to go, so finally, when she was 7 and our son was 2, we planned a big trip. We were like, "Let's just go so we can say we've gone and cross it off the 'things to do with your kids' list.'". Boy, were we surprised lol.

By our second day there, we had decided that we were rebooking. By our fourth day there, we had forgotten what day it was, and all of the cares of the real world had fallen away :). It really was magical. We've been back every year since, and are 55 days away from our next trip. Disney is a part of our everyday lives now. We play Disney trivia (which is still fun even when you all know the answers), quote Disney movies constantly, listen to Sorcerer Radio daily, and constantly have a countdown chain for our next trip. We start planning dining and itineraries for our next trip while on our way home from Disney, and have helped at least a dozen of our friends and their fams plan Disney trips.

We are just as excited for our upcoming trip as we were for our first. Maybe even more so because we KNOW what we have to look forward to. My DH and I joke that we'll be the funny little old couple ambling around Disney long after our kids are grown and have their own fams :).

My obsession started in 1992. Growing up my family did not go on vacations. The money just was not available.

After I was grown and married, my husband and I started going on yearly vacations with his cousin and her family. In 1992' we decided to go to WDW with their 3 y/o daughter. This was planned for the week of the 4th of July!! It was so hot and crowded but we didn't even notice at the time. Ever since then, we have either just got back from a trip, getting ready for a trip or have one planned.

Now, my own kids have grown up loving Disney. Especially my teenager. He says that we he gets married and has kids that he will take his family to Disney every chance he gets :).

what a great thread:)

My love for Disney started with my mom. She was born and raised in Florida and went to MK in 1971 when she was just a baby. So when me and my siblings went to MK for the first time in 1996 it was special for her and me. I was a shy child but if anyone said anything Disney I was a chatterbox all about the mouse. Granted I was only three when I went for the first time but I could talk for hours about dumbo and my first ever ride on a roller coaster BTMRR. My next visit was when I was 7 and we went to AK and we loved it. The next year we went to Typhoon Lagoon. Then in 2004 we went on our very first Disney vacation we stayed at Coronado Springs and we went to all four parks it was magical and we were all hooked. we got annual passes and we started taking vacations twice a year. then I got a little older and we cracked the art of the day trip. Now as an adult I still go to Disney a lot and I feel very fortunate and blessed to be able to do so. Me and my Mom take weekend getaways together at the Disney hotels often and we have even been able to visit DLR in CA twice this year together. She always said she created a Disney monster when she took me to Disney for the first time, but we both enjoy the time we get to spend together while we are at the parks.:thumbsup2

I remember watching Disney on t.v. growing up. Sunday nights were the best. When my wife and I started dating, '83, she mentioned she had been to Disneyland. Her dad worked for TWA, remember them?, so they flew for free. We would go somewhere every summer, so we decided to go to DW. OMG!!! I was in love the minute I hit Main Street!! When I saw someone with a suit and tie on stop to pick up a piece of trash, I thought, this is the place for me!! We ended up going to DW for our honeymoon, and have taken our 5 children 4 times. Even my 18 year old daughter gets giddy when we talk about going back. Making Memories has become our family motto no matter where we go on vacation. I've tried to explain "the sickness" to non-disneyites, and they just don't get it. If you are on this site, you know what I mean. Just made family decision to go in 2014. 25th anniversary, daughters turning 21, 18, and 16. Son turning 13. Wife will hit the big 50!, so we will do it up right by going to DW!!!.

We took our first Disney trip when my older son was 4. He was a very difficult toddler (he's on the Autism spectrum) and would cry for home whenever we took a trip ANyWHERE. He cried for home the first day, then he never mentioned home again until it was time to leave. Then he cried to stay at DisneyWorld. We never had a problem traveling with him from then on. MAGIC!!

My love for Disney was started by my parents when I was a toddler in the early 80's. My parents had honeymooned at Disney World and then taken a few other trips before my sister and I were born. When I was 2 or 3 and my sister was around 5, they decided to take us for the first time. I was too young to remember that trip, but we were fortunate enough to go once or twice a year, every year, after that. I am going to be 30 in a few months and have been to Disney at least 28+ times. I have fond memories of my parents acting like big kids while there and my dad was always willing to put on some silly had or headband and pose for pictures. I also fondly remember when the characters roamed the parks. It was nice to just be able to walk up to them and give them a hug without waiting in a long line. However, that also meant we have lots of pictures of us with characters that also include some randoms kids who jumped in the picture. We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay at just about every resort. When I was a pre-teen, my family's financial situation changed and we didn't have a lot of money, but my parents saved all year to make sure we could still go to Disney. We began staying at the value resorts to save money and have been doing that ever since. Over the years, my mother has become more and more obsessive about all things Disney, which has rubbed off on me. Her and I are the only one's with interest in going these days so we take mother daughter trips. The memories we created as a family will always be there and sometimes when sitting around together we bring up things from trips many years ago and have a good laugh. I do not yet have children, but when I do, I hope to share my love with them and take them year after year too. Disney is one of those places that no matter your age, it will bring joy, happiness, and memories. I am very glad that my parents spoiled me with so many trips to Disney and helped fuel my obsession.

For me it was started by my DH in 1994. I had never been to Disney and it was his idea to get married at the Polynesian. My love for my DH and for Disney has just continued to grow beyond words. We never had kids but we are taking my brother, DSIL, niece and nephew for their first trip this Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see the world through a 3 and 5 year olds eyes for the first time.
