Quick question for those who have recently stayed at a DVC resort using their points. During our last two stays (Grand Floridian Villas and Boardwalk Villas) we ran out of toiletries specifically shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We called to have some more brought up and they said they would charge us to replace any. We would only be able to get more (one of each) on our trash and towel day on day 4. Well with 4 of us taking 2 showers a day (hot weather) and the tiny bottles they gave us naturally we ran out quickly. No way would that last 4 people 4 days. Anyway they said only guests paying cash in the villas could get more without paying. Is this still the case? If so we will have to pack our own for our next trip. My goodness even the Holiday Inn will send you up more if you request. Thanks in advance!

Still the case unfortunately. I bring my own shampoo because I could honestly use a full tiny bottle in one shower alone. LOL.

We also own with Marriott Vacation Club and when ever we ask for more shampoo they bring it up to us right away. I'm not sure if it's just a Disney time share policy or others as well.

Yes. It is the case that they will charge you. We've found housekeeping doesn't always remember to replenish these on trash and towel days or full cleaning days, so we tend to pack our own. Another thread shows the current rate at $8.00 for the toiletries package with one each of: face soap, bath soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel.

They are also not particularly good about reapplying on trash and towel day either. We found they didn't replace everything we had used like they used to

To be honest we just take out own

Its the same with the provided coffee. I just stayed at Vero Beach. We had 1 regular and 1 decaf pack in the room for a 3 night stay.

I always bring my own coffee and filters. I use the Disney provided regular first and then switch to mine.

It depends on who you talk to. We have had them drop off bags of free stuff, other times they don't want to share. On T&T day sometimes they show up, other times they don't. I have better luck talking to the housekeepers on my floor instead of calling.

Thank you for the replies everyone. We will bring some extra shampoo etc with us on our upcoming visit. :)

I guess we have been lucky and usually get restocked on T&T or full cleaning days. But if they didn't restock them I would call and demand they replace them for free. But the OP is correct that on hot weather days that is not enough for four guests showering twice a day. You can also buy large bottles of the product in the shops at most of the resorts. Or bring extra from home.

They made the decision a number of years ago. Apparently they were having a lot of requests to accumulate supplies to take home for presents and the like. Unfortunately they are inconsistent in enforcement. I'd just take extra.

Back when the soap had the Mickey imprint and the shampoos came in the red Mickey bottle, people would collect them - for friends, for charities, just because a little bottle of Mickey shampoo at home reminded them of vacation. I'm sure Disney wen't through twice the personal care products of any other hotel chain. I remember people posting pictures of bags of them.

They probably wouldn't have nearly the issue now that the shampoo and soap aren't branded. I miss the branding, but that would explain why it was dropped.

Once again, what is reasonable when one person does it a little bit, turns into a lot of people doing it to excess, and then we don't have it at all any longer.

Agreed and at the time of the change my response was that I thought it was not the best choice but I understood why. DVC is not the only one that charges for extra supplies by any means but it's the only one I know of that charges for extra towels. But many just refuse to give extras unless there are extenuating circumstances. Many charge if things are missing or not turned back in like pool towels and in some cases they try to use this as a money making option since the towels don't really cost $25 to $35 per. I'm sure there are other examples one can find though of charging for such items.

If they don't replenish what you need on T&T day, you CAN call MS. I did once when the housekeeper only did T&T, then when I called housekeeping, she insisted that T&T day was just that-T&T only, nothing else (and this was at one of the "stand alone" DVC resorts). So I called MS to find out when this new policy happened, and she told me the housekeepers were mistaken. Ten minutes later, housekeeping called me back, offering whatever I needed-shampoo, soap, coffee, etc., etc.

Does anyone know if you pay extra for daily cleaning if they replenish the coffee? I don't care about the toiletries I bring my own.

Pay As You Play
With Pay As You Play service, you'll be provided with the following amenities at no extra charge at the start of your stay and during each Housekeeping service. After that, you may purchase more amenities for the following fees (fees are subject to change):

  • Toiletries Package: $5 - includes 1 facial soap, 1 bath soap, 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner, 1 shower gel
  • Coffee Package: $3 - includes 1 package of coffee, 8 sugars, 8 creamers, 8 artificial sweeteners
  • Towel Package: $6 - includes 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 4 washcloths, 1 bath mat
  • Laundry Detergent (only in 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas): $1 - includes 1 box for 1 load of laundry

If you pay for a full cleaning or trash and towel they will replace the coffee. It used to say replace the clothes washing detergent but that's no longer listed. I'd just bring some pods of some sort or lose coffee and filters. They'll leave you a couple of coffee packs and if one is the one you don't want (decaf or regular), they'll swap it for the one you want if asked as a minimum. We're in timeshares many times a year and I'm not recalling what they leave at DVC right now. Many have lose coffee and filters and many have coffee packs.

Yeah I think it comes down to who you grab in the hallway. I took my mother to BLT for a couple nights and she obviously wasn't familiar with DVC (to her its just a hotel, which is a fair assumption), so when mousekeeping skipped our room she ran after her and apparently politely asked her for some shampoo etc and came back with a handful of bottles. I was semi-mortified, but whatever.

Thanks for the info, I think I will bring along more coffee, usually it is just my DD and I but in 2 weeks my sister is coming with and her and I like coffee in the a.m.

We just got back from a one week stay at SSR using a RCI timeshare exchange. We had a one bedroom unit,. When we arrived we had 2 packs of coffee, one regular and one decaf. We had I believe two of each toiletry item. On trash and towel day, we arrived back at our room to find at least 8 full sets of toiletry items, numerous packs of coffee, and for some unknown reason more towels than we could have possible used (I'm talking 10 hand towels amd wash cloths), plus additional trash bags and dish soap. We were a little shocked when we saw it all, lol. I don't know how many people they thought were staying there. Is guess we had a very generous housekeeper that day.
