Shampoo Choices

I have been using a certain brand of shampoo for several years. Over those years, they have re-packaged, re-branded and re-named their product. I went with the flow. I just looked for the one for "normal" hair. I was running low, went to the store and found that they changed it all up again. My big problem is that the choices were for Color Treated Hair (I don't color), Curly Hair (I have straight), Straightening Shampoo (already straight), Fine Hair (mine is thick), Chemically Damaged Hair (don't use hair products other than shampoo and conditioner) and Clean Hair. Where did my Normal Hair go? I went with the Clean Hair shampoo since that was my ultimate goal but why all the choices? It's very frustrating. :confused3

I figured. My kids went "ga-ga" over the new packaging. I'm telling you, this stuff is marketed to TEENAGERS.

I also think they change their formulas a bit. Now, I wouldn't touch the stuff, but after my son washes with his, the bathroom is left with a real bad, fake chemical smell (I swear it's not HIM :teeth: ). I think their hair smells nasty after using it. It didn't always smell this way.

But I feel your pain. I used to use the L'Oreal Vive line way back in the 90s when it first came out. My favorite one (and the only one that worked on my hair) was the Hyrdavive. It was in a white bottle with a blue top and when you squeezed it out, it was kind of pearly looking. About 3 years into my addiction with this stuff, they changed the bottles and did away with, yes, you guessed it--the one *I* used. None of the others worked well. I think they've since re-introduced Hydravive, but it's still not the same.

Well since we are on the topic of shampoo and conditioner, what are some recommendations for cheaper brands that dont strip or dry your hair out. We are trying to cut back on our budget and I have given up my salon shampoos. The problem I have with a lot of the cheaper ones is they dry out my hair and I tend to have an oily scalp. Right now I am using one of the Suaves and my hair does not feel dry but it has lots more fly away hairs than it ever did. It just doesnt seem as smooth. Any shampoo/conditioner recommendations are welcome.

Gosh, whoever thought it would be so traumatic to find a decent shampoo? I am just now using the very last of our last bottle of Herbal Essences conditioner - I might have two shampoos left if I add a little water. I couldn't decide which "new" thing I was, so I let DD12 buy it - she chose the green ones. DD17 has green and purple with her at college.

So now I am shopping for a new shampoo as well. I do color my hair, but I don't really want to be tied to a color-treated hair product. I don't want to buy the salon products - my hairdresser has changed locations four times in the last few years, and every time he moves the salon's "new" product line is the one he recommends for my hair, so I've finally figured out that he's required to recommned the store's product. Fair enough, but I've never seen a difference in the way they work with my hair.

Right now I'm using up leftovers from cleaning out DD17's room, but I don't think they will last forever, so I'll be in the market for a new brand. I do like the Dove products - bought them over the summer and we all like and use the shampoo and conditioner. I'd love to have some other recommendations, though!!!!

Sorry, I don't have any recommendations. I'm still "stuck" on salon shampoo. Every few years, my cheap side gets to me and I will go on a binge of trying "drugstore" shampoos and it NEVER works for me. I have fine, impressionable hair and it just looks a mess when I do drugstore shampoo (although some salon brands are bad too!).

Anyway, I haven't had any luck since my stint with the L'Oreal Hydravive back in the 1990s. Even my kids love my salon shampoo but I am stingy with letting them use it.

:lmao:

You are too funny! Since my hair is processed to death, I shell out for the salon stuff.

But - I find that Aussie's line, while not the cheapest, is reasonably priced and pretty good. Errr. I think that's the name.

I would reccomend Vidal Sassoon, but oh wait, they stopped making it! :furious: I used to love that shampoo. I haven't, in the 5 years since they discontinued it, found anything that works nearly as well.

I like Finesse. It's hasn't changed much over the years and it's always left my hair "soft and silky."

I also used to like the Vive line.....

I love love love Victoria's Secret So Sexy Shampoo. It is my holy grail of shampoo. It leaves me soft, with lots of body, smells good and doesn't dry out my hair.

The also sell an expensive one...frederic fakkai or something like that. I like it, but it is not as good as their so sexy shampoo.

I have tried just about EVERY shampoo there is. I'm a total product junkie. I have never liked the smell of herbal essence, but the shampoo was fine. The garnier fructis is great on my daughters hair but is too heavy for mine. Redken so soft is another great shampoo. I could go on and on. makeupalley.com has reviews of lots of different brands.

I just bought Bath and Body Work's line in coconut lime verbena. I haven't used it yet but it smells so good. But I have thick curly hair and am pretty picky about what I can use so we'll see. I'm going to try VS's too since i do love their scents and cosmetics. I hate all the choices today with everything. I'll stand in the toothpast aisle waisting 15minutes of my life I'll never get back trying to choose. Hair products are worst.
I normally use Pantene Pro-V but that seems different now too. Aargh.

I'm too cheap to buy the salon stuff but I used to. I might go back to Redkin, I used it several years ago. I haven't tried my new Drama Clean shampoo yet so I don't know how it's going to work. I was just frustrated with all the choices. Remember when it used to be Dry, Oily or Normal? The good old days.

I personally like Fruitis and suave professionals line. I also liked aussie shampoo's in past when I've used them

I too am stuck on salon products...Matrix all the way for me. I have very course, thick hair and drug store products just don't moisturize my dry hair the way I need. My DD is a stylist so I do get to shop at the supplier for salons at a cheaper price, so that helps. Biolage does the best with my hair. We do color and highlights and a trim every 5 - 6 weeks so I need to keep it in good condition.

wow, I don't usually post on 'fluff' threads about things like shampoo. But, when I read your post, it describes me and my hair to a 'T'!

I have thick coarse hair, and NOTHING I have tried has ever compaired to the Biolage Hydrating Shampoo followed by the Detangling Rinse.

Other hydrating shampoos and conditioners leave so much sticky residue in my hair it is just awful!!! And, regular (non-hydrating) shampoos leave my hair dry and course.

I tryed the new Biolage Smoothing shampoo, and, even it did not work.

I'm sticking with my current Biolage!
