Shaking Hands - a vent!

fsh.jpg

I know, I hate that!

And, I'd like the whole hand, please. Kindly open up your thumb enough for us to have our palms together. :teeth:

Well, I admit, I am someone who doesn't shake well. I try to avoid it whenever I can. Trust me, you don't WANT our palms to touch...my palms are a sweaty mess most of the time, especially if I'm nervous. On job interviews I clutch a paper towel in the waiting area until they call me so I can shake hands properly.

I know that the "dead fish" hand shake is disturbing BUT I just chalk it up to a physical impairment. Many people are unable to give a firm handshake due to a physical condition that may cause extreme pain under pressure or they may be physically unable to close their hand enough to apply sufficient pressure. I don't just assume that they could give me a proper handshake if they desired.

When you shake my hand(s), please, shake my hand. No dead fish please!

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! I hate the "dead fish" limp, clammy handshake!!!

If you are a man especially in a business setting do not give me the 'ladies' handshake. I view it as condescending especially from a pier.

Excellent point! Thanks.

Point well taken, however, I know of one person that always gives the dead fish, but at times, I have found that if I turn my hand just right and "get in there" he will give me a regular handshake. I knew he could do it!

And, yes, SC Minnie, when I am shaking hands with a male pier, please give me a HANDSHAKE...not a dead fish

Mal, it's ok, I'd give you a

Sometimes when I get the dead fish hand or just the fingers, I wonder if they are expecting me to kneel down and kiss their hand or something. :confused3

ITA!!!!! I hate when people just "hand" me their hand instead of shaking mine.
The other thing I HATE is when people try to break my hand. I've actually had people hurt me and I have a VERY firm handshake.

They only grab your fingers and and turn your hand up and fold the fingers in their hand-- I call it a 'ladies' handshake. This particular coworker shakes all the mens hands regular. Irritates me to no end.

Oh boy, my second pet peeve post today. I must be a real pain to have so many complaints. No, that couldn't be it! ;)

I hate, hate the limp hand shake. I enjoy the look of surprise on a mans face when they give me that limp finger hand shake and I give a firm one back. :rotfl:

Sometimes I'd rather have no handshake at all ! ;)
I meet with individuals clients in an office setting. Recently a man came in gave a big cough and sneeze, lityerally all over the desk, as he sat down. He continued to do so repeatedly during our 30 minutes or so meeting (I offered him my box of tissues after the first one...the tissue box is next to my dispenser of Purell ;) ). Then as he left after he offered his hand to me! Uummm...no thanks! I just smiled politelyand said "Oh sorry, I'm sure you'll understand, I refrain from handshakes once the cold/flu season is upon us! It was a pleasure to meet with you though."

uuugghhh

sorry...off topic ....just had to vent :)

I'm a dead fish or "lady handshake" person. I hope it does peeve people off enough to just let go of my freakin' hand! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I do not in the very least like to be touched by strangers, and being touched on the hand feels entirely too intimate to me. Sorry, I might be a whacko, but that's the way I am. For some reason, being touched on the hand would be as bad as a stranger patting me on the butt. I know it's the socially acceptable way to greet people, but I just don't like it.

Keep your grubby paws to yourself! :paw:

::yes:: My uncle told me this story of this guy he met one time, (this was like late 80s) and he went to shake the guys hand, and right as he touched the guys hand the guy did the 'ladies handshake" with just his finger tips. My uncle was talking to the guy that introduced the two of them later and he asked him about it. The guy said that the other guy had been in an accident and REALLY messed up the bones in that hand. so that was all he could do. Once he went to shake his hand and was too fast, and he nearly brought tears to his eyes. So its not always a "I don't like shaking hands" it can sometimes be a "I can't shake hands"

I am with you on this one! I wish we could just bow to each other rather than shaking hands. Have you seen the statistics on handwashing? I keep a bottle of purell in my desk to use after handshakes.
