came home about 2 this afternoon, limping badly, and crying loudly his right front leg was swelled an and obviously hurting him, we brought him in, gave him a warm bath and hes been snuggled on the couch ever since, with a few minor breaks to limp over to the food dish, the swellings starting to go down now, and while h es still limping it doesnt hurt as bad, cause hes nopt crying with each step. hes even started to purr again, so hopefully its nothing serious, i wish i could have got a picture of bootsie trying to take care of his leg. shes was curled up on the pillow with him, licking the sore spot nd grooming him.

Aww, I hope shadow is feeling better soon.

does not appear to be an abcess, it appears to be a twisted shoulder, we checked him out close while bathing him, and since we goit him in side and off his leg hes feeling better, we dont feel or see any signs of an abcess or he would have already been headed to the vet. hes moving better and not crying anymore so i think he just twisted it somehow.

Are you sure he was not hit by a car? I think a trip to the vet for an exam would be a wise idea.

My cousin had a cat when he was young and it ran out into the street right into the side of a car. The cat bounced off the car about 3 or 4 feet and landed on it's side. It got up and gave the car a dirty look and ran back up onto the pouch and seemed perfectly fine. My uncle had seen the whole thing and decided to take the cat to the vet even though it looked and acted fine. Massive internal injuries that were unreparable. The poor cat was dead in less then 2 hours.

Could kitty have been stung by an insect and had an allergic reaction? One of my Scotties stepped on a wasp and was stung--he limped and his leg swelled a little. His paw also felt hot. I iced his foot for awhile and it helped. I also gave him one of his prescribed skin allergy pills on the vet's recommendation. I was told to watch for breathing issues and continued swelling and if I saw one of these to get him to the after-hours clinic.

Hope little Shadow will be back to his frisky self by morning.

hes still limping a little but he was determined to go outside to potty and play a while before bedtime, hes stillnot back in yet, he was purring loudly when i let him out

Cats also purr when they are in pain. I'd take a trip to the vet just to be on the safe side, if I were you. Hugs :grouphug: to Shadow

He may have an abcess or worse.
Please take him to the vet.

Yes, what you said. Cats can have a closed abcess, the perfect place for bacteria to multiply and cause massive infections. They can be very hard to spot. Also, don't you think it would be a good idea to keep the cat inside until you find out what's wrong?

PLEASE take the cat to the vet ASAP!

My MIL's friend ran over her little Yorkie the other day, and they didnt take her to the vet because she wasnt crying and "looked" ok. Well she died 3 hours later.

Their reason for not going to the vet was that they were getting ready to close and then no one would have been there for her anyway.

Animals usually suffer in silence. I feel bad for that little dog.
