shades of green wedding

My wedding is going to be at 330 since some of the girls in my graduate school program might not be able to leave to drive down until that morning! I am so jealous that you both will have sunrise pictures, I think those are so beautiful! You are so right, the website pictures are not fantastic at all, I wanted to see more than the two of the ballroom so I could get a better idea. Rich told us that he is going to put us in the section closest to the bathrooms, do you know which you will have? If you take extra pictures of the ballroom, gazebo and the lobby that would be awesome. Since ours is a December wedding I know there will be a Christmas tree there in the lobby so I want to make sure that pictures near it would look pretty! So it girl if you took those pictures you would be FOREVER in my gratitude!!

Kim,
Thanks for the info. I passed it on to Jason so the ball is in his court! It would be great to get to see the ballroom. Then I could take some pics for you, Annie. I've never seen the ballroom, except for Kim's pictures.

I will post more pix when I have a chance. BTW...I am also a NYer, just in VA now.

oooh smoof that would make me happy! I feel left out not being from NY now! hahaha are you in Southeast VA smoof?

As promised, I posted some pix. They are http://pictures.aol.com/galleries/ztaami

There aren't many, but I picked a spattering, showing some of the places we got some pictures, and if by some horrible chance you end up inside like we did, it isn't too bad. So, why 2 years after our wedding am I only posting a couple of pix, because of the web page I have been promising everyone since right after the wedding, that is still only bits and pieces on my computer.

In response to Annie, I am in all parts of Virginia. DH is currently working in Richmond, so we are splitting the difference between Richmond and Blacksburg, and my parents are currently in Northern Virginia. We are everywhere!

Some silly questions:

How is the ballroom? Does it need a lot of decorating? See our other choice was the Living Seas, so with all the fish I wasn't going to do much decorating.

SOG did all the food. What about the cake?

We did a little bit of decoration in the room, i do have pics i took after the wedding of the ballroom if you would like pics send me a pm, they are too big to post.

Yes, SOG did all the food, and it was wonderful. We chose way too much food for the coctail hour (EXCUSE MY SPELLING), anti pasto, spanikopita, beef wellington, etc... I can't remember all the coctail hour food, I think also a veggie tray. For dinner, the salad was Ceasar, the pasta course was tortellini with pesto, and the entrees were a choice of filet mignon (with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed veggies), Mediterranean chicken (with rice pilaf and mixed veggies), and Mahi Mahi (with rice pilaf and mixed veggies). We also had chicken tenders and fries for the kids. Disney food is outstanding, these meals were even better. We were of course concerned about serving so many people.

Our cake was done by a baker in the area. I think her company is Cakes by Design. Wonderful!

Decoration is totally your personal taste. We made the centerpieces for the tables, and decorated at about Noon. The wedding was at 5:30. I will look for a pic of the centerpieces. We decorated our table a little differently. SOG slightly elevated it, so there were one or two steps up. I wanted (I know this sounds tacky) this balloon thing over the dance floor, but the light fixtures would have been a problem. So we didn't get it. The light fixtures and wood in the room are very pretty. The walls are typical banquet-style moveable walls. I don't think it needed a lot of decoration. I do have to say after having the rehearsal dinner and the ceremony, then the reception in the ballrooms, I did sort of get sick of it. Of course, I am still bitter about the monsoon that forced my wedding inside. We would have had the gazebo decorated with flowers and organza. Actually, it may have already been decorated. The chairs were set up.

Also, if you are picky about colors, check what color napkins they now have. They were about to put out a gold color (which is very pretty and matches the chairs), but we didn't like it, and they pulled some blue ones out from Manginos. If you have a color in mind, I would check that and rent or buy if they don't have what you want.

I did not even think about the napkins! I will want to check on different colors! I am going to order a publix cake, they taste amazing AND deliver, plus they are not expensive at all!

Annie -
I have heard that before about Publix cakes! We don't have them up here, and when I lived in Florida I never had one!

I am really unsure about how the ballroom looks. I will hopefully get to see it when we are there. I am thinking, if I can spare the money maybe I'll get chair covers! Some people on Dis have used Emily at Charming Events and I think they can do all that too....and maybe even matching napkins if that's a concern of mine. I'll have to find out the price.

There is a Publix in Orlando, if you have time you ought to go to the bakery and tell them you do not have any stores where you live but heard their cakes are PHENOMENAL! (no lie) and wondered if they had anything you could try to help make your decision. One of my friends had to do that with her fiance because he refused to believe they would be good and now they have a Publix wedding cake and grooms cake!

Yep, Publix cakes are great! I have had MANY. :cool1: A lot of people use them for weddings.

I can't remember who said something about chair covers, but make sure you get the measurements of the chairs before ordering them. I didn't really care about chair covers, but I remember some discussion about the chairs being larger than normal banquet chairs, and someone had to get special ones, so make sure to get the dimensions.

Coincidentally, I spoke with an aquaintance this weekend, whose daughter was recently married, and they used a Publix cake. They were very happy with the cake. I saw a picture. It was very pretty.

I added a couple more pictures.

Hi everyone! I just want to say that I am getting so excited to be leaving on Friday! I can't wait to check everything out in person -- and during the day! Last year when we went to SOG we arrive at night, and never walked around during the day because I insisted on staying in the parks late into the night! When we arrive on Friday, I am walking around and looking at everything, and taking a few pictures.

have a great time and have a great meeting with rich, he is the best!!!!!!! cant wait to hear all about it

kim

Thanks for the well wishes, Kim. I'm afraid we're not meeting with Rich. I passed the info on to Jason, but I don't think he contacted him. I offered to....but I thought it was his call. But we do arrive on Friday morning, so we may be able to ask some questions and maybe we'll get lucky and meet him! I am hoping we can set a date on this trip -- once Jason sees it and falls in love with it all. Then I could actually book vendors!!!

Maybe you can take pretty pictures of the ballroom from its good side? haha I am so excited for you - and a little jealous too!
