Hello, just kind of curious how the busses for Shades of Green work. I read on another thread that you are dropped off at the Trasportation Ticket Center. What and Where exactly is that? And do I catch another bus there to go to the parks? Just seems like a lot of bus changes. I just want to get on a bus and go straight to the park. At the end of the day will I then have to catch a bus to the Ticket Center and then another bus to the Shades of Green? I've stayed at other resorts on site and it was fairly easy as far as the transportation. Next year we want to try the Shades of Green. Has anyone been there recently?

The Transportation/Ticket Center is basically the Magic Kingdom car and bus parking lot. It's a 3 minute ride from Shades of Green. From the TTC, you can take the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom, or Epcot. Shades of Green has provided direct buses from the resort to the Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, and Blizzard Beach. Now that there is no service to Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon from the Transportation/Ticket Center, I'm sure they will provide transportation for that too.

I really wouldn't be worried about it at all.

I haven't been to the Shades of Green sine November 1999. I found it convenient to take their bus to the TTC or just walk on over to the Polynesian Resort and take the Monorail. We were annual pass holders back then. Always found the walk to the Poly a good warm up in the morning.

and i've heard that it will be closed until june 2004 so who knows what will happen with the buses!

According to all of the information that I've received from SoG (so far), the resort will be reopening on March 1.

They've already moved our January and February reservations to another Disney hotel- and if they plan on moving any more of them, they better let us know soon!!!

I wouldn't stay at SOG without a car. We were there for a week in Sept 2000 and got tired of waiting at the transportation center for our bus...and it was too far to walk back to SOG after a day in the park. Also, your dining options are very limited at SOG - it's either the buffet or the snack bar. We wanted to try out different restaurants but transportation was too hard - we had to take a cab back to SOG after eating at the Beach Club. Our only other options were to walk all the way back to the Epcot monorail and then transfer to the SOG bus at the TTC, or take the BC bus to Downtown Disney and then to TTC, then SOG. Either of those options would probably have taken us almost 90 minutes, and we were exhausted! So we paid for a taxi and were home in 5 or 10 minutes. I'd stay there again if I had the chance but definitely with a car for getting around if I felt like going somewhere other than MK.

We have stayed at SOG several times and never had a problem with their transportation. It was always right on schedule. In the event that we arrived at the bus stop during a time when we knew we would have to wait, it was just too easy to look for a Disney bus and hop on it.....wherever there is an SOG bus stop, there are tons of Disney bus stops. You are bound to find transportation. We just prefered the SOG buses since they are like greyhound buses...nice comfy cushion seats that layback. We never considered the need for a taxi. We even hopped from resort to resort collecting pressed coins and we used Disney buses to do that too.

You had several other options:

Boat/Walk to Studios, bus to SoG
Bus to MK from Beach Club then monorail to Poly then walk to SoG
Bus to MK from Beach Club then monorail to TTC then bus to SoG

As I recall, the two options I mentioned were the only ones suggested to us by the Beach Club concierge...it had to do with the time of night it was.

The on-time record and comfort of SoG buses notwithstanding, my family still wouldn't stay there again without a car. We like the freedom and convenience it offers.

Might as well get used to bus changes, unless you've got and use a car its unavoidable. We liked walking to Poly or even TTC in the a.m. and but at the end of a long day its just another hike to make (and then there's the walk to the room depending on where you are). For us, focusing on the parks, a car wouldn't be worth the hassle....ours sat in the lot and in hindsight there were only a couple of times I would rather have driven - a meal at the marketplace and coming back via Yacht/Beach from Illuminations.

We've stayed at SOG many times. Once we drive into the parking lot, we never look at the car until we leave. Maybe we've just been lucky, but we have never had transportation issues at SOG.
On the other hand, we encountered alot of bus trouble a couple of weeks ago while staying on Disney property. Very long waits, and overcrowed busses every day.

We found the key to enjoying SOG transportation is knowing the bus schedule. Some of the pickups only happen once per hour if I remember correctly. So if you get there 5 minutes after the bus leaves you must wait 55 minutes for it to return.

We don't use our car once we get to SOG.

Enjoy,
Ty

We stayed there in 2001 and there are buses that go to each park directly. I think to get to DTD you have to take a bus to TTC and transfer. But now that they have the buses going right over to MK, SOG also has buses that go over there too.

We have never had any problem with the buses while we are there. But as long as you know the bus schedule you will be fine and they give you a time-table of the bus schedule when you check in.

We did MVMCP in 01 and they had a bus that took us over to it.
