Shades of Green stayers!! Check in!

My family will be there on December 6th - 10th we reserved 2 rooms. Hopefully near each other. My dad is retired airforce and it is his and my mom's 1st trip to Disney ever! I hope they catch the disney bug.

We all have tickets to MVMCP on Dec 9th. I'm hoping to get a nice Xmas card picture that night then when we get home I'm going to upload it to ofoto and have our cards made, they normally take 3 days tops.

I can't wait to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for helping me regarding the bookings, very helpful! Can anyone answer the questions I had regarding the suite rooms??? Are there any sites that have suite room plans or pictures?? Are they one or two bedroom??
I think SOG has five suites that sleep six, and six suites that sleep eight, I know before the renovation that in one room there was a king size poster bed and in the other room there was a pull out sofa and tow murphy beds disguised as bookcases. There are two tvs. But like I said I don't know how or if they are different since the renovation.

Just checking in - my family and I will be staying at SoG in March. We stayed there before the renovations and absolutely loved it so needless to say we're really looking forward to going back again!

We'll be there for weekends in Jan - May, and again from Sept - December.

The rooms are wonderful- just wish they'd get away from the soap/shampoo dispensers......

Do you remember the stuff they had when they first opened?? It was a wonderful, tropical smelling stuff. Always made me think, "Yes, I'm really here and away from the rest of the world...." It was a little coconutty (I hate coconut), but not overpowering. I wrote a letter of complaint when they switched to that drab, green stuff. I'm not sure what the new stuff in there is like.... :)

Well, we didn't use the shampoo from the dispenser but quite enjoyed the green stuff (though I wouldn't call it drab!). Maybe it's different green stuff. They also provided bar soap and liquid shampoo/conditioner each day.

Althought the time passed so quickly, we loved SOG on our recent stay week of 6 November 04.

We were in the old section towards the back. Room was great, maid service was excellent. Only once did we have to call for towels in the evening. A minor mistake as they took all of our dirty towels and forgot to leave clean ones.
We have little ones and often ordered carry out from Evergreens before returning to the parks for an hour or two in the evening. Food was good. Chicken fingers were a hit with my 3-year old.
Also, had breakfast buffet in Garden Gallery the last morning. This was good. A nice selection, or you could order Ala carte. We did not get to try the new italian restaurant, Magiano's. Simply ran out of time, but it looked quite nice. When we were there, they were closed the beginning of the week and we left on a Wednesday. I also founf the wait staff to be very accomodating.

My only disappointment, and it is so minor I got over it right away. When returning from MGM at 3PM one afternoon, it was our only rainy day. I stopped at the cafe after departing the bus. I ordered a cup of hot water,(intending to pay)as they were serving tea etc. The woman behind the counter was very abrupt in telling me "I need to charge you for the cup." I said no problem at all and handed her a dollar bill. She accepted, no change, no thank you and continued with the next patron in line. I thought the guy behind me would die laughing. The best part was - my son never ate one bite of the oatmeal he HAD to have back at the room. My huge donation to the SOG cup fund:)

All in all, I found SOG to be as nice as I remember and still find it a priviledge to be able to utilize these military R & R properties. (I think of the Hale Koa all winter long!!!!)

I'll be staying at SOG for the third time this January and can't wait! We were really disappointed when we were moved to the Contemporary during our last trip during the rehab. We didn't care for the Contemporary at all, and couldn't wait until we could go back to SOG!

Quick question for those who may know...I'm running the marathon this trip and need to get over to Disney's Wide World of Sports to register the day before. I don't think a SOG bus goes there directly so what would be the quickest way? I'm thinking of possibly just taking a cab since I'll be going over in the morning and the rest of the family will be waiting for me so I don't want to take too long. Also, does anyone know if there will be a bus running in the early morning over to the marathon start (Epcot parking lot)? I have to be there by 4AM but I don't know if their busses will be running that early. I may have to walk over to the Poly, but would rather not walk any further than I have to that day :)

Another random thought...does anyone remember when the reservationists used to answer the phone, "It's a beautiful day at Shades of Green!" I got such a kick out of that, and still say that to DH when he's having a bad day... :)

We will be there for our first SOG stay 4/28-5/7. We are getting adjoining rooms with our very best friends and their family. Should be a ball!

Is there a good quick and easy place to grab breakfast there in the morning? We like to grab something quick and head to the parks.

:moped: :thewave:
We will be there 12/1-12/8 Stayed there many times over the last 12 years stayed in some of the other resorts but this is the best

--->There isn't an SOG bus, you could take your chances and walk up to the Poly as they have a bus that goes there but your quickest way would be a cab. Bell Services will call one for you.

The busses run only 1 hour before park opening. Though they may run something special for the marathon, ask at check in and they will help you decide what is best.

Good Luck in the marathon!:sunny:

Hi,
A few comments...

Adjoining rooms are NOT guaranteed and I just wanted to warn you of that so that you are not dissapointed when you arrive if they have nothing available. Also, if that happens you may want to ask about the handicapped rooms because they adjoin a regular room and they don't normally assign those unless it is requested. If they don't have anyone booked in one the entire length of your stay they will give it to you, that is what happened with us.

They have the Express Cafe which serves Coffee, cappuccino, Danish, muffins, cereal, fruit, sandwiches, juices, desserts, etc. It's a great quick stop on the way to the bustop but the line can get a bit long. Prices are reasonable compared to in the parks. We could get two muffins, two bananas and a juice for the price of one in-park muffin and juice.

Have a great trip!

Unfortunately, their dispenser products have aloe as one of the ingredients, and I'm allergic.

I had the same problem with the shower dispencer contents at Port Orleans when we got overflowed there. So I just bring my own.

It is a great location though, and definitely has it's advantages...

Hi all!

We will be there from Nov 30 - Dec 8!! I can't wait-

Does anyone remember the hairdryers??? Are they powerful enough? I was just there in August and can't remember if I even used my own or not! I would love to leave it home!

 Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
They seemed okay to me. Probably not quite as strong as what you are used to but doable! Have fun and eat a canoli in the express cafe for me!

We'll be at SOG Nov 6-12, '05. This will be our second stay, first was in '98. Can't beat the price or location. Transportation is easy. We took the buses directly from SOG to the TTC and walked quite a few times also. Both work well. The schedule is the schedule for the buses. They were always ontime. The walks to the Poly and the TTC aren't bad either. This wil be our first trip to WDW without children since they are both in college now. I'm going to wish the year away.

I just wanted to comment that the schedule for the busses can and does change. They didn't tell us this at check in and we didn't know to check it daily where it is posted down in the express cafe. It changed I think twice during our stay. So, it shouldn't change but it can, so check the board every day just to be sure!

When we made the ressies, they warned us that we may not get adjoining rooms. We are just hopeful we have either adjoining or rooms across the hall. Thanks for the handicapped room info! I haven't heard that before.

So glad this thread was started!!!
