Althought the time passed so quickly, we loved SOG on our recent stay week of 6 November 04.
We were in the old section towards the back. Room was great, maid service was excellent. Only once did we have to call for towels in the evening. A minor mistake as they took all of our dirty towels and forgot to leave clean ones.
We have little ones and often ordered carry out from Evergreens before returning to the parks for an hour or two in the evening. Food was good. Chicken fingers were a hit with my 3-year old.
Also, had breakfast buffet in Garden Gallery the last morning. This was good. A nice selection, or you could order Ala carte. We did not get to try the new italian restaurant, Magiano's. Simply ran out of time, but it looked quite nice. When we were there, they were closed the beginning of the week and we left on a Wednesday. I also founf the wait staff to be very accomodating.
My only disappointment, and it is so minor I got over it right away. When returning from MGM at 3PM one afternoon, it was our only rainy day. I stopped at the cafe after departing the bus. I ordered a cup of hot water,(intending to pay)as they were serving tea etc. The woman behind the counter was very abrupt in telling me "I need to charge you for the cup." I said no problem at all and handed her a dollar bill. She accepted, no change, no thank you and continued with the next patron in line. I thought the guy behind me would die laughing. The best part was - my son never ate one bite of the oatmeal he HAD to have back at the room. My huge donation to the SOG cup fund
All in all, I found SOG to be as nice as I remember and still find it a priviledge to be able to utilize these military R & R properties. (I think of the Hale Koa all winter long!!!!)
