My brother will be joining us for a couple of days during our Magical Gathering in December (see countdown clock in signature). He is active in the military. Can families staying at Shades of Green participate in Magical Gathering activities?

grand gatherings require at least 8 guests with at least 80% staying on site at a disney resort. if you can satisfy that, yes.

We have 2 families staying at Caribbean Beach Resort and 1 family staying at the Contemporary, for a total of 8 people, not counting my brother and his family. My brother has 5 people in his family. This may work after all.

it sounds like 1 person from SOG can participate, certainly not 5. and that's assuming all 8 at CBR participate in the event.

I just want to preface this by saying, "I don't know for sure!" But as far as I'm aware, visitors staying at Shades of Green are not eligible for participation in Magical Gatherings. My last trip we had 10 family members (originally planned for 14) and we were all going to stay at SoG before we decided to rent a vacation home instead. I think I remember reading that Magical Gatherings did not apply to those staying at SoG. Again, I'm not sure, but here's a bump to see if anyone else can answer your question.

if the 80% staying on site is correct then you're brothers family of five would make it less than the required percentage. I would just call and ask.

my answer is correct, i promise. at least 8 guests with 80% or more staying on site at a disney resort.

You can register anyone as a "member" of a MG. Sometimes I have been attached as a member.

However, a MG, to start with, has to have at least eight members age three or above who are staying at a Disney Owned and Operated Resort.

That said, each MG event must have an attendance where both at least of the eight members, and at least 80% of the attending members must be staying on property.

For the OP. You have 8 people who are qualified and five who are not. You can register all 13 as members of the MG. However, any MG event you attend must have all eight members present (because of the first rule) and can have no more than two (for a total of ten people) from your brother's family as having more than two would mean the percentage of people at a Disney Owned and Operated REsort would be less than 80%.
