You have to pay at 3 of the 4 "land" parks. You get to park free at MK because when you go to shades of green , you are allowed to pass for free through the ticket booths to go to the resort.
When you are leaving SOG, you make a left hand U turn right about where the AAA car car center/Hess station are located.
The parking fee for AK, DHS, and EP is 14 dollars.
There is no reason to park at MK when you can take the bus or walk to the poly and take the monorail from there. AK is definitely worth the parking fee since the bus only leaves on the hour.

Although, logistically, you are correct, I don't think that is the intent, parking is not intended to free at MK just because of the design of the parking system that allows you to avoid it.
It seems people really worry about the bus systems, alot. Heck, I even get worried when I start to read all the 'horror' stories! lol But, really, we have never had any issues, with SOG or other disney resort transportation. With the Poly so close and TTC, it's really pretty convenient. Even when we had one kid in a stroller it was never a hassle for us. MANY people choose to drive to the parks and back, but I know for dh and I we sure as heck don't want to drive anywhere during our vacation. lol THAT is a hassle to us.
