SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

I can’t for the life of me find information I trust on this... for those of you who have stayed at SOG and then gone on a Disney Cruise, what transportation did you use? It looks like the Disney Cruise bus is not an option. It looks like my best option is Lyft to the port and then DCL bus to MCO afterwards.

What is the best option to get to SOG from MCO without renting a car since Magical Express is not available?

Depends on the size of your group. If you are a small group then Lyft or Uber can work well. If you are a larger group you should check out the "Limo" companies like Sunstate Transportation (go to the site via the SOG site, they offer a discount) or Mears (if you don't mind a shared shuttle service.)

If you are real adventurous and don't mind hauling bags and traveling via public transportation there is a low cost public bus that will take you from the airport to TTC.

I was just looking into this. I was planning Uber but looking it was quoting around $35 for one person, does this line up with what others have found recently? It's like almost the cost of renting my own car. I don't want to rent a car because -$7/day parking at SOG is fine and all but I won't drive once I'm there, and I can't remember but is there an"on-site" (at SOG) car rental place to return it to?

I'll check out SOG's site again too. Every other SOG stay we've had a vehicle, but I kind of hate driving around WDW ;)

We are travelling with five people, so Uber XL works out well for us...about $12 each, one-Way from MCO. But if you are travelling alone then $30 for one person might seem steep... I think it might still be a savings though...and it always takes 40+ minutes to get a rental car, so there is that time saved if you Uber.

very true. If we can get flights to align then splitting the Uber is way better (family member lives in different state), renting at MCO has yielded some...memorable situations.

If you are only one person I would do the "Shared Ride Shuttle" with Mears. I just looked it up for a ride from MCO to SOG it costs $20.70 per person with the current online discount. All the other methods work better the more people you have sharing the same vehicle, since you only pay the flat rate per vehicle when getting a "limo" or Uber.

thank you!! I looked it up after posting last time too, and they even have a roundtrip savings, it's about $33-$34 per person if you book both ways ahead of time. That's a win! I appreciate it! I don't know why I didn't think of this, going to DL by myself I've done Uber AND supershuttle and they were both around $18 so I was sticker-shocked at twice that in FL. :)

Alamo has a rental counter at SOG and if you do online check-in, you can go right from baggage claim out to garage and pick a car from your category. No need to stop at rental counter.

those dang tolls! I knew I was forgetting something! Yes, the drive time is similar but it's definitely the tolls.

The problem with shared rides are all the other stops can add a significant amount of time to your trips. It's the reason we stopped using them and started to use a limo/car company.

Stupid question, but when there are EMH in the morning, the SOG buses run half hour prior to the EMH right? We are staying there next week so I’m getting nervous about it being so new to us. So much to learn lol

Yes the buses will run early for EMH. The only times you really need to worry about early bus times are if you want to be at AK extra early for rope drop for Pandora or to any of the parks for early Breakfasts within the parks. Then you might need to make alternate plans.

Thank you! Yeah, we are going to AK for 8am EMH, so the bus would leave at 7:30am if what I’m seeing is correct. I’d be ok with that.

Last year was our first trip to SOG & we received an older room. If we wanted to request a remodeled room with the least amount of walking would a request asking for a room on the Palm side near the lobby be the best request?

Also, we never used the Shady Shuttle last time, but going in the heat of the summer this time, so may use it. What amount does everyone tip?
