SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Couple years ago they changed the monorail operating hours. I don't know if that's why we started seeing EPCOT buses at the TCC but they were there.
From the WDW website "The Epcot Monorail runs from 8am until 1 hour after regular hours park closing." It's my understanding that this means they stop running the monorail at 10 if the park closes at 9 even if there are EMH.

If you go the the "Military Disney Tip" FB page you can see pictures they just posted of the bus stops.

I'm more than a tiny bit peeved about the bus moves. I can't tell if the AK/HS buses are different, but the fact that SOG guests have to pay to park made those buses worthwhile, even if they were a tiny bit inconvenient. And driving to the TTC and parking always seemed silly to me. But we could at least count on the TTC bus having a place to wait, comfortably. I know the walk to Poly and back over to SOG isn't far, but sometimes after a longer day (especially with older people) you just want to get to that TTC bench and wait quietly in the shade for your bus.

No worries. The new bus stop at the TTC is probably 20 feet from the original spot. It isn't under cover anymore, but you can always still use the benches because you can see the bus as it pulls into the parking lot and have plenty of time to walk that 20 feet. It is only a teeny bit inconvenient. The new spot at HS seems to actually be closer, in my humble opinion, to the gate. It is just across the street instead of to the side. And the one at AK is still in the same place ... far, far away. But then, the Disney buses are a pretty good haul too.

I also thought that the HS bus had a better spot when we were there last fall. Yay. When I get grumpy about the AK bus I try to remember that a Disney vacation is a ton of walking. Miles. So the extra walk to the AK bus is pretty minor. And like I've said we are very likely to use the Disney bus to the TTC because of the timing and you are right, it's not that close either.

Can someone point me to some photos of the pool area?? I am thinking about taking my toddler here next August and would love to know if there is a splash pad/kids pool area. I could only find two grainy pics on their site in the slideshow, and not finding it anywhere else. Thank you!! :goodvibes

If you go back 2 pages to post 1738 you will see the artist rendition of the plans for the Mickey pool slide and splash fort.. Since they are just resurfacing and adding to the pool and splash pad, I would assume that it would be finished well before your visit in August....

I was looking forward to trying SOG for our April trip until the whole magic band/fp+ thing!
I read somewhere that if you stay one night at a Disney resort it will allow you to make FP+ reservations beyond that one night? So I could switch to SOG and still utilize FP+ for the duration of our trip? Has anyone tried this?

You can also book a throwaway night a the campground (i.e. a night you don't actually intend to check in for. Will cost you about $55 plus tax. If you want more info, let me know and I can send you some links to another board where there is more info on this.

Good morning, folks! My family and I are spending our first Christmas at Disney World in a couple of weeks! Yay! We are AP, so we go frequently, but this will be our first time staying at a Disney resort. We are staying at the SOG resort from the 25th-30th. Any tips or recommendations about the resort that anyone can offer us?! Thanks! :)

We tried to book SOG less than a week before our Thanksgiving trip. They were booked solid. My husband asked about overflow booking. They offered All Stars or Carribean Beach at what looked to be about a 20 percent off discount (went with CBR).
The woman did not volunteer this information until my husband asked, so be sure to ask if they are booked.
She called Disney and did the booking for us.
So definitely not the value that SOG is, but still got a place to lay our heads while in Disney!

Heading back to SOG soon. Do they still have "pool towels" at the pool? Are they at both pools now or still just at the "Mickey Pool"? Thanks.

Yes they do. We were just there a few weeks ago and used the new pool. There's bin with clean towels and a bin to drop off dirty ones.

I'm checking in to my happy place in 6 days. First time ever in December to experience all the holiday magic, without the holiday crowds (yet).:santa:

We are arriving on Tuesday. We can't wait. We haven't stayed at SOG in a couple of years so we are looking forward to seeing all that's new.

Hello
We normally just stay at SOG and get the stars & stripes length of stay passes. However, in February my daughter and I are going down and doing it a little differently. We are staying at the Poly for 2 nights and then moving to SOG for 4 nights. We did room only ressie at the Poly b/c we are going to use the 4 day Armed Forces Salute tickets.

If I understand correctly, we will still just get room keys at Poly since our tickets won't be connected. My plan is to do like we have always done and just get FP from the machine with our Armed Forces Salute ticket....is that going to still work? I don't really understand all this stuff with the new magic bands and fastpass plus!!

Since you are staying at the Poly, you will be able to get magic bands and link your tickets; but you don't have to. You will need to get the 4 day salute vouchers/tickets ahead of time and link them in your MDE (My DIsney Experience). Pm me if you want more info, and I will send you links to some more information. Too long and complicated to get into here. At this point no one is sure how long the legacy (old)fastpass system will operate.

Call out to all my Dis buddies! I am taking a friend of mine to the World in February. This is not only her very first trip to the World, but this is her very first trip to anywhere. She has never been outside of the Baltimore area ... ever. Not even into DC, which is just down the road. I want to make this the best experience of her life. I know, that is easy to do ... we are at the World, after all.
My question to all of you is: other than the old standard "first visit" pin, what else is there that I can do to make this a special experience for her. She is in her mid 40s and is fun-loving.
Thanks in advance!
