Going on now through Sept 30th there are 4 day tickets for $138 for hopper or waterparks or for $165 you can get both. Tickets expire on the 30th of Sept so you have until the 27th of Sept to get them and use all 4 days on them.

This promo has been going on for quite some time and everyone is hoping it will be extended again.

I know about the tickets! We got those for our trip coming up. Thanks, I just wondered what SOG special was only $89 per night regardless of rank.

Pool wasn't heated in June the night we stayed there....it was mighty cold getting into it at night during the tropical storm. Sounds like a good upgrade to the pools, with zero entry!

Are the pools heated? Do they offer life jackets for the kids? Lifeguards? Any poolside activities? I am guessing no pool slide?

If you want a fun pool for the kids, anything that consists of more than just a basic concrete pool, SoG is not the pool for you. It's not Disney owned, so there are none of the Disney touches like theming and the afternoon activities the Disney owned resorts have at their pools.

And no, no slide.

Just wanted to chime in here -- just found this board today -- although I wish I had found it BEFORE we went to Disney a few weeks ago. This was our very first trip to Disney ever ( and I was BORN in Orlando, isn't that a sin? ) & we had a BLAST! WE must must MUST go again but I don't know how we will do it. The only reason we got to go was because my in laws took us. My FIL is retired Air Force so we stayed at SoG -- & I really loved it. Now, I have nothing to compare it to since this was our first trip -- but we were hardly in our rooms at all so it worked for us. We used the pool 2 or 3 times -- it was upper 90's when we were there so for me, water is water. I don't need fancy slides. We had breakfast & dinner buffet included -- which was pretty good ( although by the end of the week our heaps on our plates got way smaller - we were stuffed! ). I can't imagine spending lots of $$ on a place to sleep & eat. My MIL gave me a comparison of SoG to Wilderness, which was her first choice, & Port Orleans, her second choice. Like I said, nothing to compare it to, but I would definitely go back to SoG. Wish my husband hadn't dropped out of the army -- lol -- what was he thinking?

I didn't know about Shades of Green until after we had made a few trips and we didn't stay there until April 2011 and my husband doesn't like it at all. We both love the theme at the Disney resorts, Disney just knows how to do it right. Yeah, the rooms are smaller, but it's just the 2 of us, so it doesn't really matter. And it's all about budget, too. We sometimes find that with the Military discount, the Disney rooms are cheaper and we don't have to pay to park at the resort and parks (that is a huge turn off to me).

That's why they make different flavors of ice cream, because not everyone likes the same thing. We are happy pretty much anywhere we stay from Value to Deluxe/DVC as long as it fits the budget for that trip. At some point, we may stay at SoG again.

The gradual entrance to the pool is to better accommodate our guests with mobility challenges, and the growing number of wounded veterans returning from combat.

The Magnolia Pool to close within the month of August, and be under construction for 90-120 days. The Millpond pool will follow.”


interactive TV program that will allow our guests the ability to view restaurant menus, park hours, their bill, and so much more. It will also allow our guests to purchase in room movies and order room service right through the television!



For guests staying at the resort now, we are also utilizing a QR code on the bus schedule that can be scanned with a smart phone. So when our guests find themselves in the theme parks the bus schedule will be loaded right there on their phone!

well this is kind of a bummer that the quiet pool will be closed. We liked that one a lot as it was..quiet. LOL.

That does suck about the quite pool being closed, especially if your room is in that area it could get loud during the day. Also might make the mickey pool more crowded.

Edit - I checked SOG website, facebook and twitter and didn't see this info posted (yet) or else I missed it (which I totally could have done). Is this an official announcement about construction? I'd love to know before I tell my family there will be construction at SOG for our vacation.

Well, if they put in slides and improve the pool areas, SoG becomes more attractive to me, especially with no Military discounts for 2013 announced.

We got lunch from evergreen's on our break day from the parks and it was OK. Each morning we had the breakfast buffet and it was really good, same with the nightly dinner buffet. Reasonably priced too which was nice!

Wow! The redesign of the pool and addition of a splash area for little ones is a huge incentive for us to return to SOG. My DH will be thrilled because one of the reasons he got vetoed on staying at SOG for our next trip was the pool. We do love SOG and we've learned to live with/work around our issues with terrible food but the pool was still a minor gripe that was keeping us from booking in preference of another resort. That's a very exciting development. Thanks for sharing.

Uh oh--pool renovation starting in August? Anyone know any details? We'll be there 10-19 Aug and we hope at least 1 pool and the hot tub will be open. If not, that will be an issue for us.

It's only the quiet pool. The mickey pool and hot tub will still be open.

We will be at SOG in a couple weeks so I called to ask about the pool renovations and they three different people we spoke to all were not willing to give any info about the situation. Saying that the renovations were something that would be coming eventually but no start date has been set. We wanted to know for sure about the construction because if it's gonna have a big impact on the resort we might want to switch resorts.

I know it's been mentioned it'd only be the small pool closed to start, I'd be surprised once work gets going on zero entry and bathrooms added near the quite pool that the hot tub would stay open. I'd think they'd have to close the hot tub off if construction gets really loud or really wide spread but I don't know...

Anyway, the last person we talked to with guest services told us to call next week, to see if there has been a date set for the start of construction.

I got some info from Steve at Military Disney Tips:There is info floating around today that an ITT Office is passing out info on a Disney Armed Forces Salute renewal.

Disney has confirmed to me that they have decided to renew the Armed Forces Salute, they told me that they would be coordinating with MWR this week.

They'd said they would email me the details and I haven't received anything yet. I sent an email to my WDW Media Relations contact but don't know if I'll hear anything before morning. I think the ITT office leaked this before they were supposed to. I imagine it will be announced tomorrow.

There are details missing from the info above from a base ITT Office (room discount rates). So we'll see tomorrow. I'll post and send a newsletter as soon as I have official info!
