SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Yes please! Are the laundry rooms still quarters only or do they have some kind of credit card swiping system...just trying to figure out if I need to bring a roll of quarters! Also - how much does laundry cost?
thanks!!

Laundry now takes tokens which are a dollar per token.
Washer - 1 token
Dryer - 1 cycle = 1 token

There is token machine that accepts bills only.

Thinking of booking our first stay at SOG this October and I have a few questions.

Do all of the rooms have a fridge?

Do all of the rooms have a coffee pot? If so can I use my own coffee or do I need a special pod?

All rooms have a fridge.

4 cup Coffee pot in all rooms. You could use your know coffee.

Thanks - good to know I don't have to worry about quarters!

Hello - my husband is an honorably discharged veteran, so I know we can only stay at Shades of Green in either September or October. What isn't clear is if we can or cannot purchase military discount WDW park tickets through the resort...can anyone help?? Thanks!:confused3

We stayed at SOG 3 years ago with our four adult kids and grandkids (5 rooms). At that time, we were told that anyone with a room card could buy discounted tickets at the SOG ticket office, and they all did. Yes, the posted policy does not say this, but I think it's worth a call to SOG.

BTW, non-retired vets are eligible to stay at SOG in Sept and Jan http://www.shadesofgreen.org/saluteveterans.htm

Is there a pool bar? How late is it open?

Is there a food court type eating area? How late is it open?

Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the Shades family. You will not regret staying at Shades. In answer to your questions:

Yes, all rooms have fridges. They are, however, very small.
Yes, all rooms have coffee pots and you can use your own coffee. When we were there last, they were the kind that uses the paper filters and not the pods.
I can't answer about the pool bar. Hope someone else can.
There is not really a food court, but there are several eating options ... none of which I would recommend. Some people like the buffet, but it didn't impress me. But, none of the food places stay open very late.

Hope this helps! :cool1:

I have us booked for Cindy's breakfast at 8:05. Park says it will be opening at 9:00. We have a car at Shades but there is one person to many to drive. (some are flying in). There will be one child, two 70ish with walking issues, and 3 in-between. The in-laws are planning to rent scooters in the park. What are our options and what do you experts think is the best option? :confused3

Thanks,
Denise

I might suggest that your ILs rent their scooters off site and have them with them. There is a lot of walking just getting to the parks.

The easiest will be to walk up the driveway to poly (have the elders use the Shady Shuttle) and take the Poly monorail directly to the MK. Or just drive them over to the Poly in two trips.

Another option with very little walking would be to drive your party in 2 trips over to the Contemporary (it's like a mile) and then let the elders take the Monorail to the MK while those of you who want to walk can just walk over.

If Epcot has an early opening then the TTC bus will be running early enough for you, and you can use that to catch the monorail to the MK.

but no matter what, you can't drive up to the MK for drop off. It's all done at the TTC. Know that there is a steep ramp to the monorail at TTC and it's hard to walk up for elders.

Today I noticed that the bus driver loaded and unloaded the scooter. Also there are a bunch of scooters at bell services. I don't know if you can rent them.

I wasn't sure if there were a lot of scooters and you get left behind. It says 2 on a bus. I guess I'll wait a little longer to make sure they are still coming then I'll call to see if SoG has them for rent.
