DD15 and I are going to Disney in August. She would love to go to one of their water parks, but I'm extremely fair and even with 50 SPF sunscreen burn easily. My question...are there any shaded areas at either of the water parks at Disney?

You can find shaded areas at both BB and TL. You might have to look for a minute and you might want to consider getting there early if you are going during a busy time, but you should be able to find something. I can't remember which was which, but at one of the water parks we found chairs under a straw sheltery thing (you'll see what I mean when you get there and I think this was BB) and at the other we were able to just find chairs off to the side under some trees and it was fine. Plus, most parts of both of the lazy rivers have some sort of shade, so that will allow you to still be in the shade while enjoying the attractions at the parks. Also, Neutrogena makes a 70 SPF sunblock now... still might not help, but just in case you didn't know it was out there. Have a great time!

My dd and i did both water parks in May and found TL to be more shaded than BB.

There are quite a few shaded structures around both parks. Last year we set up our area at TL just to the right of the wave pool. It was in an area tucked back alittle (wave pool not visible from our location).

At BB last year we found shaded tables, etc. located by Ski Patrol Training Camp.

But yes, if it's a busy time, get there early. When we go in Sept., after Labor Day, it's not too bad, but we do try to get there at opening time (an hour earlier, if EMH)

Have fun-we love the water parks! :grouphug:

Also, where a surf shirt (shirt made out of bathing suit material) to help you protect yourself from the sun. I also recommend Hawiian Tropic All Day Waterproof 45, it really is waterproof for hours. My kids use it at day camp.

Good question!....I too was wondering about the shade factor & asked about it the other day. We ended up going to Typhoon Lagoon on Sat. & I was worried b/c we weren't going to get there until late afternoon - I was thinking there wouldn't be any chairs/shade. Well, it was very crowded but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be & there was PLENTY of shade....granted we were over by the kiddie area and I see that your DD is 15....so that won't help too much, but I did notice that overall the park was very shaded with lots of greenery. I don't know about Blizzard Beach, good point Lewisc, I would think the same thing about the reflection. We're gonna go check out BB this wk.end & we'll make sure we have our sunglasses N sunscreen on! :) Anyway, from what I've read/heard TL would be your best bet. Have Fun!!!!!

Both water parks do have shaded areas. Our family is fair skinned, and we enjoy both parks.

Step #1. Apply LOTS OF SUNSCREEN! Several times while you're there, even if it's only for a few hours. We use SPF 50.

Step #2. Wear a t-shirt over your swimsuit when you're on the slides, or in the wave pool.

I use to worry about what people would think of me wearing a t-shirt, and gallon of sunscreen. Then I heard people comment about my extended family with the sun beaten, leathery skin.:rolleyes1
I don't worry about what people think of me any more!

Just wanted to chime in again :) We went to Blizzard Beach on Fri. & there were Plenty of areas with shade, (we didn't get there til aprox 3 pm and there were still lots of chairs/lounges left in the shade as well). Have a Fun time! Both parks are Great! I Loved the theming at BB!!!

Lots of people leave around 2 or 3 PM because of the afternoon rain storms. I wouldn't expect to find a shady spot at either water park within an hour of the park opening in the summer. They get taken early. Around 3, you might find one that someone else left.

ooooh, good point! I guess I should've been more specific in my last post....I didn't mean it to sound like there are chairs/lounges all over the park throughout the day....I speak strictly from a late afternoon arrival point of view. It sounds like the consensus is that in order to get a good shady chair or lounge, either get there at opening, or late afternoon after the crowds thin out a bit.

For my own sake (we have FL resident after 2 water park passes)....I really hope that it's not just the afternoon storms that people leave the park early for....I was thinking that by 2 pm people were just tired & ready to leave the park by then. I'm sure it's a mix of the two or at least I hope so!....we'll be finding out soon, I guess :) Sorry I know :offtopic: I'm just thinking out loud!

A lot of guests do leave so they can get to the parks for the afternoon parade. Get cleaned up for an early dinner. On our four stops at the water parks the first week of June, we usually left about noon or one because the crowds were getting a bit large. In the past years, we did leave around 3 or arrived around 3. You do find more spaces open around 3PM. So you were right!!:thumbsup2
