Sewing sheets

MIL bought Avery a white wrought iron bed. I have been searching for new bedding for her and finally found something I love! http://www.nurserydepot.com/twinbed...10003671-10003769-111273-4-2&id2=668-0-0-0-0&

Then I realized that they do not sell the matching sheets! They do sell the fabric. I do not sew, but I was wondering how hard it would be for someone who COULD sew to make a fitted and flat sheet set for a twin bed. I have tried searching for sheets that would match the raspberry pink, but have come up empty.

I absolutely LOVE the colors of the bedding which is why I do not want to give it up! It is perfect for Avery.

I would grab the material first, then worry about sewing them! The top sheet just has to be hemmed, not sure how tough it is to do fitted. How old is your DS? I would probably just have 2 flat sheets unless you find someone who sews To me it would be worth the extra time to make up the bed with a flat sheet on bottom if it was the perfect color

Sewing the sheets would be *very* easy. A little hemming, quick seams and elastic at the corners of the fitted sheet.

Even easier, is there a chance these might match?

Do you have a friend who sews, who might do it for you?

(I just finished sewing DH a cool vest to go with his Halloween costume, and last weekend I made "curtains" for DS's bunk bed. He hides in there like it's a little cave!)

I just found Ralph Lauren sheets that I wanted for our queen bed, but they only had flat and no fitted. I bought two flat ones and a set of pillow cases. It took me about a month to get up my nerve, but I made a great fitted sheet out of the flat one. It wasn't hard. If I can do it, you shouldn't have trouble finding someone in your area who can help you out.

You have to be very careful and make sure that the width of the fabric is wide enough for your sheets since you do not want seams running down the middle of the sheets. Most often the fabric is sold to make curtains, etc and is not wide enough to use for sheets. Measure before you order.

I have never made fitted sheets for a twin bed but I have made them for a crib as part of a gift and they are really easy to do!!

The material that you like is 54 inches wide. A flat sheet is 66 inches wide. This means that you would need two seams down each side 6 inches from the edges. This should be fine since the seams would not fall on the bed surface area but be tucked under.

You need to get double the length of material. A flat sheet is 96 inches long so you need about 6 yards of fabric. That is an expensive sheet if the fabric is $20/yard.

The fabric might not be suitable for sheets. If it is a rough fabric you would not want to sleep on it.

I would do a search of local fabric stores for a coordinating fabric because once you order fabric online, it is non returnable.

What would happen if you went with a solid color and just put an binding on the flat sheet of the matching fabric? I didn't look at the print, but if you could pick up one of the colors in a solid it might work.

Excellent points. The fabric width is not ideal for sheets, but could be made to work.

Damo's dimensions are pretty good. Twin sized bedding will be around 66x100 for a flat sheet, around 67x103 for fitted, plus a pillowcase at around 21x32, doubled. And those are finished dimensions, so you need to add allowances for seams and hems.

Can you order a sample swatch of the fabric to see if it's soft and fine enough for sheets? That would be a good idea, before investing the $$.

Thanks everyone! I think if I decide to go with this set I will just get her white sheets. They are covered up by the quilt anyway.
