~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
So I wanted to ask you a question about AG's. I know this is a PTR but it seems as if more than me go off course here.:lmao:
My DD is 6 1/2 years old (as of yesterday). I have gotten many of the AG catalogues but have yet to buy my DD a doll because I wanted to make sure she is ready to take care of a doll that is almost $100. I have bought her the similar doll at Walmart by Madame Alexander.
How old were your DD's when you got them there first doll? Any advice? I do have a couple of simplicily patterns for cloths, so should I make a couple of outfits first?:confused3
My DD was 4 when she received her first AG doll from her Godparents.
I had to laugh at the comment about the spray bottle....
(by the way, 'Skyler' was wearing a dress that I made, and while not up to the standards of an original D~... it caused quite a stir. The girl asked where she could get one, and my daughter replied that her doll only wore original one of a kind dresses and refused to reveal her source! While it was cute, I do need to have another talk with her about her manners!)
Nini
:rotfl2: That is just too funny!
FYI - I found the answer to my own question... Disney does NOT put a hold on any cards, but if you want charging privelages on your KTTW card, you can put a card # on file. They charge your card once you hit the "limit" established by your hotel... Value $500, Mod $1000, and Deluxe is $1500. So, in case any of you were wondering, like me - there it is. :)
D~
Thanks. We just bring our own credit cards as I am always afraid to lose our KTTW cards which we never do:rolleyes1
All AG outfits must be posted here to *inspire* D to sew, sew, sew!!!!
Per Andrea since it's her PTR:lmao: and we D just seems to be relaxing lately:lmao:
Wow... your AG clothes are awesome! My dds have sadly left behind AG, but I have already ordered McKenna just because my kids have disabilities and I thought her story was so inspiring. She will be my doll, hehe. I have always wanted to learn to sew and you have definitely inspired me to try. Cant wait to read about your trip. I have eleven months till my next trip, so living vicariously through others!
:welcome: to Andrea's errr I mean D's PTR:goodvibes
Thank you, and welcome to my PTR (even though everyone here seems to have a claim on it :confused3)
McKenna is adorable, and I think her story is a very worthwhile story to be told - hopefully it will help the younger generation undestand other people's struggles a bit better. That is super exciting the McKenna is going to be your doll, I have a few of my own, as well - unfortunately they're quite neglected these days. :rolleyes1
Ok, now I am nervous about losing mine... :eek:
FYI- I didn't loose the KTTW card but I did leave both of them in the room when we left trying to get to Boma on the first day. The CM at the front desk was very good about canceling the first one and reissuing new ones. So if you do loose your KTTW, high tail it over to Customer Service and they will cancel the first one in case someone else finds it and give you a new one.:thumbsup2
Yup...HOWEVER...
Last trip I lost my KTTW. We had it cancelled and reissued. When hubby did laundry two days later he found it in my pocket. It still worked! As a room key and a credit card.(did not try it as a ticket) I was very upset! They cancelled it again and this time it took! That episode made me very scared of the "if someone else finds it" scenario!
Just saying...
Well now D will have to make a matching Toy Story lanyard with a clip or pocket for her KTTW. Then she won't be able to lose it.
Oh no, sorry to hear that. I did try the old one once to get into my room (just grabbed a card as I ran off to grab an orange soda) and it didn't work. Luckily my DS was in the room and let me in. It's scary to think that that doesn't happen every time though.:scared1:
That would probably be the best idea, but than we are just adding to your list of things to make on top of her orders. :lmao:
Okay - Dave TOTALLY lost his KTTW towards the end of our trip. We were in Epcot and he went to pay for lunch - no KTTW. :scared1:
I gave them mine and he went back to the front of the park where we'd entered (since it was the last time we knew he'd had it and he hadn't seen it since).
No KTTW. :scared1:
The CM that was helping him cancelled his KTTW and then went back through ALL of the purchases charged to the KTTW to make sure it hadn't been used by someone who had found it. They also asked him if he wanted to call his credit card company to give them a heads up, just in case, but since it's MY card, he didn't have a copy of the actual card so he declined that offer :)
We never saw his original KTTW again - but we didn't have any issues with him losing it or with the new KTTW. :)
ROFL... You all know me pretty well. I am pretty sure you guys aren't going to believe me, that the lanyard was already at the bottom of my list... Might have to bump it up to the top though???
Anything else you want to add to my list???
D~
Just in case you didn't know..........McKenna is from Seattle!!! Megan was thrilled that an AG is from our city!
you definately need a lanyard with a zipper pouch connected, so easy to keep track of and get in and out for charges and FP's!
Guess I need to do some more reading on McKenna. Might buy C the books since she likes to read all the AG books.
All of my quotes are seriously out of order... Sorry if it confuses anyone.
Well now D will have to make a matching Toy Story lanyard with a clip or pocket for her KTTW. Then she won't be able to lose it.
ROFL... I was just thinking that I will use my TS Zip wallet... Wait a minute - I haven't made it yet... :headache: OK, when I make my TS zip wallet, I will make it with a ring to that I can clasp it to my fancy schmancy lanyard, to hold my kttw card so it doesn't get lost. :thumbsup2
No kidding, that could have been rough!
I really love how you all just *add to my list*.... Do you not realize how long my list is right now??? :rotfl2: I do believe that I posted a rough outline of it the other day... :surfweb:
Wow Marianne - you got lucky... I am so glad there were no other charges to that card - that could have been a mess... Maybe I need to make Dave a lanyard with a zip pouch for your next vacation... :rolleyes1 Who is his favorite character again???? :surfweb:
D~ glad you are enjoying conversing with yourself. I guess it's OK... after all, you think this is your ptr.
You know, I do this quite a bit - and I've gotten to know myself very well over the last few years, and I rather like myself a lot. :lovestruc
Meant to ask you, did you use a tut for the purse or just wing it? I think I might have dd make her doll some purses out of felt (I think if we did fabric it would be too tiny and too hard for her). I have to buy some felt today to make little stuffed Valentine hearts to leave in mysterious places for dd (on Valentine's Day). I wanted to do it for dh too, but not sure if he'd think it was sweet or ridiculous. DS would be unimpressed and likely embarrassed. DD will think it's awesome though.
Are you talking to me??? Are you referring to the UPB??? If you are, then yes, I did sort of wing it... Once I got all my measurments figured out. I didn't have a tut at all.
I see you found the answer to this. :thumbsup2
And there it is! :goodvibes
Thanks, everyone, for all your help answering my questions yesterday. :lovestruc
If you don't want to put a CC down, just don't charge back to the KTTW card. Keep your GCs handy. :goodvibes You don't have to put a CC down at check-in, they just won't allow charging access to KTTW. :goodvibes
But that's the problem, I want to charge to the KTTW, but I don't want to have a cc hooked to it. I guess I'd probably be better off just using the GCs outright. :confused3 That way, I'd have a better idea of what we are spending.
Once you apply the gift card to your account it is a credit. The balance is not available anymore on the gift card. You use your KTTW card to charge things against the credit on your account. If you don't use it all, they would have to reapply the balance back to the gift card. At least that's the way I think it works.
In other words, once you apply the gift card balance to your account, you wouldn't be able to go use the gift card. The balance on the card would be 0.
Thanks for being a bit more specific Stephanie... :lovestruc I totally understand now.
Wow... I am so glad it was your DH who found it and not someone else. That last trip for you was a doozie...
Just in case you didn't know..........McKenna is from Seattle!!! Megan was thrilled that an AG is from our city!
That's cool about McKenna... Have you purchased her yet?
You think I need a lanyard/pouch too??? Geez.... Slave drivers!!! :rolleyes1
Today, I am locking myself in the sewing room. I am working on a bag order - I would love to be finished with it by the end of the day, but I don't think that will happen. It's gonna be close. This one won't take me as long because I've been working on it for the last 2 weeks, in between other things, because I knew I couldn't do the bulk of it until this week, and the person leaves for Disney in 3 weeks - I don't like cutting it that close...
I've also been working on Allison's Up! bag inbetween other projects, and I've managed to make a dent in that... I really want to make that one of my first priorities after I finish this order.
Trip update...
Yesterday, I transferred the last of my $$ into my acct, so I plan to have my trip PIF by the end of the week. Also, I went to my meeting last night, where I received a check that I wasn't expecting - with the guarantee of another nice one next month, which will take care of a huge chunk of our park tickets that I still need to add back into our pkg. So, that makes me feel a lot less stressed. :lovestruc Then I can start saving for all the other extras that I still need to pay for - luggage fees, tips, oop food, incidental cash, and the very last thing I will save for is souveniers.
D~
That is awesome about getting a check D. Congrats.
I am going to post a list on my PTR of what I want to do this week because I need to get a bit more productive LOL.
We always seem to lose ours at the restaurants. For some reason we must leave them on the table after using them for our dining plan.:confused3
Hey, did you ever think of checking if it would be cheaper to get tickets at SOG? You have a military ID, right? Or if not, anyone that is at SOG/WDW at the time you are can get your tickets.
We stayed at OKW and at WL/DVC and both times had the dining plan, with the tickets we bought at SOG. Since DH and I have SAPs we didn't have to buy a 1 day ticket from Disney to get the dining...but my BF didn't so we got her a 1 day ticket from the front desk, went over to SOG and got her a 10day MYWw PH+fun...she used it for 3 trips with us! Also if you haven't got the Military special tickets that are like $140 each for 4 days, it might be cheaper if you got 2 for each of you?
Just a few ideas....we have a few military special tickets left for this year, I think enought for the kids. If not they are adults now, and have jobs.....and we do provide the condo to stay in for free.
I am heading down Feb 15ish for a few days. Let me know if you need info, park maps or anything...and have you ordered the free customized park maps from WDW site? I think each of you could do your own maps, they are really pretty nice. They will mail them, or you can print them at home.
So that's a few more things added to the list, but it isn't sewing!
That is awesome about getting a check D. Congrats.
I hope you are able to get your list done today.
I'll just keep mine safely tucked away in my new lanyard pouch. :thumbsup2
Hey, did you ever think of checking if it would be cheaper to get tickets at SOG? You have a military ID, right? Or if not, anyone that is at SOG/WDW at the time you are can get your tickets.
Well, I just went to the SOG website to double check my previous figures, and for us to get the free dining promotion, we have to buy 2 days worth of tickets for each person in our room... So, to buy the 8 more days (or 7, I haven't decided yet) from SOG, it would cost us $810. If we buy through Disney, because they get cheaper the longer you stay, it only costs us $388.
I think that would work if we bought the dining plan, but since we have free dining - I am pretty sure that we have to buy 2 days minimum of tickets for each person in our room from Disney??? Correct me if I am wrong? Then for the special tickets, I can only activate 5 of them, to activate 6, Josh would have to be with us (If I am understanding that right???) I could be very wrong here, because sometimes I am LOL.
Just a few ideas....we have a few military special tickets left for this year, I think enought for the kids. If not they are adults now, and have jobs.....and we do provide the condo to stay in for free.
I really appreciate your suggestions... I wish there was a way we could get everything cheaper - but I think I am as cheap as I can get it right now. :confused3
Hmmm... I will think about it, right now I can't think of anything we need. :lovestruc I am just happy that you get to go again - that is super aweesome!
I have done the maps in the past - and I agree, they are way awesome - I haven't done them this time, because I still have ours from before. Although - I might just do it for the fun of it. :thumbsup2
D~
Why aren't you sewing?!! kidding...
I am really not sure about the tickets, and since you have free dining I think someone math smarter then me would have to work that out. However, we bought 5 of the 4 day tickets in May of 2011, and then got 3 more(or maybe 2..) last Oct. As I understood it at the time they had a 2 year deal going, kinda. You could get up to 6 tickets per year, but could buy them all at the same time. We didn't get the military member ticket since we have the annual passes- I have brain washed DH into thinking that is the cheapest way to go. And then since we have them and it is a 6 hour, 11 to 14 min drive to MK, we have to use them to get our moneies worth. It is a vicious circle I am willing to turn around...
Anyway. If you could get each of you 2 tickets at @ $140 each = $280 a person X 3 = $540? and then you would need to add the one day ticket you have to buy from WDW.
As I said, I just don't know...but I bet there is someone on this ptr that will know! And I box to their superior knowledge. If it isn't math related to fabric, like 1/8 yd=4.5 in or .125 then I am hopeless at math. I can figure yardage from 36 in wide to 72 in if you ever need to know how much to get to re do a couch, make a car seat cover, or a pair of pants...the last is easy, cause you need enought to cover the length of your legs...
Now, back to your sewing, lady! You are doing fab! I was kinda thinking of your UP! project, at one time I had ballon appliques with the characters I wanted to applique. Just never figured what to put them on!
ok, just checked SOG site. It says you can get up to 6 tickets, one for the military member. However, you need 24 days worth of tickets? 24 divided by 3 =8 days each? So if you did get 5 of the tickets that would be 20 days... at one time you only needed to buy 1 day of WDW tickets from them, if that is the case then you could get 1 day for 2 of you and 2 days for 1 of u and then use all 4 of theose days for the same person.
Confused yet? I mean that as long as the same person uses the ticket to get in the KTTK ticket is used by one of you for the days you have to buy from WDW. Then it MIGHT be cheaper to get the 5 tickets @ $140....but it might be a bigger hassel then it is worth! Since the more days you add to a WDW MYW ticket, the cheaper the days get this would be something that will require a list of facts and figures to get the best price...and if it is only a few $$ then is the time worth it? If it was over $50 or close that is a big deal to me=a few yards fabric!
WooHoo for unexpected money!!!! Man, oh man, I wish I'd get an unexpected check! All I seem to get are unexpected bills :confused3
Just wanted to say hi :wave:
I'm still here - just lurking more than posting I guess :confused3
To get FD, even if you already have tickets or an AP, you MUST purchase a 2day ticket for each person in the room. Many people who have APs and book FD (from what I've seen) take their 2day tickets and use them to renew their APs, or pass them on to friends/family.
So if D was to get a SoG Military ticket, she'd basically be buying two sets of tickets. The 2day mandatory FD package tickets, plus the SoG tickets. Without doing the math, I'm still pretty confident that her best bet will be to take the 2day tickets and just upgrade them to the correct amount of park tickets. Granted, I could be wrong, but I have never looked at military tickets before. I just know the 2day tickets aren't cheap, but they get cheaper as the stay progresses. I think day 5+ is only like $5 each day. IIRC, that is.
Granted, someone who has stayed for FD on a military discount may have better insight. I just know the mandatory 2day tickets thing. Huzzah for the TA and CMs beating it into my brain. :rotfl2:
Gee wiz all this ticket & FD is making my head spin! I never understand all of that stuff!
I have finally caught up! Phew!
I worked on DD's prototype doll house today.
Sorry for the bad cell phone pic. I can't find the camera!
We don't have much furniture...we really need more than 2 rooms. DD was concerned that they do not have a bathroom!
