Sewing Machine Prices?

Hi. What is the cheapest price for a basic machine? I bought one of those cheap $20.00 back in the summer at Canadian Tire and it just froze, right in the middle of sewing my kitchen curtains. I don't need one of those fancy ones, but it would be nice. Just one that does the basics.

Well mine was the best price of all....... free mil had it and I borrowed it and rehomed it!! it likes me better anyway

Why not try somewhere like a thrift store? I do believe I've seen them for around $200 or less but haven't really looked too much

Hi,

Uesd to work in a quilting/sewing store, and have experience sewing and selling machines. New sewing machines can be priced anywhere from $200.00 and can go as high as $8000.00. Some things to think about are 1) get a machine that has a drop-in bobbin system as opposed to the older front load system ( the older system tends to jam much more easily and send the timing off on a sewing machine). 2) Even though it might be somewhat cheaper to buy a machine from Costco or Wal-mart, they will offer you no support afterwards. By support I mean free lessons on your machine, free advice on sewing problems, and a good store will usually give you 6 months to trade your machine up, if you find that it doesn't do what you want it to. Quilting and sewing stores also will usually have some trade-ins that might work for what you need, and they should have been serviced before you take it home.

Personally my favorite brands are the European ones. Pfaff and Husqvarna are the easiest to learn on and in my opinion the sew the best.
