Severe peanut allergy -- any restaurant recommendations?

Hiya. I know club cool is just drinks, I just don't necessarily trust all drinks to be safe anymore. A few weeks ago there was an orange juice that wasn't safe because they were using peanut extracts in it, since I heard that, I question everything- even drinks.

what?!?! peanut extracts in oj? blah just another thing to worry about!

Here's one of the forums that discusses it, and shows the label of minute maid:

Some people argue that it's fine and highly refined, while others say their kids have had reactions from it, so I for one am playing it safe with anything with peanuts in the ingredients. My then 2 year old had a horrible anaphylactic reaction back in March and I need to play it safe. Do not want a repeat of that, y'know?

Don't blame you, I won't mess with it for my DS either. We don't mess with peanut oil either. Orange juice, I never would have thought.

Kind of Off Topic....
I looked at the forum, and where the posters are from and I wonder if it is a Canadian thing:confused3 We have minute maid orange juice in our house and it has never said thta, and I just looked on their website and none of the orange juices have that listed on their ingredients...its very interesting to see

I'm also wondering if it is a Canadian thing because a lot of US products do not put that type of label on their products because Peanut Oil is not recognized as one of the major allergens so there is no label requirement for it.

That was just one forum, many others discuss it too. They said it was only 'heart wise' minute maid which is only made in the U.S., not in canada- so it frightens me. Yes, many believe highly refined peanut oil is okay, while others have had reactions because one can never know just how highly refined it is, or whether it was cold pressed or not.

In other news, my husband contacted coke, and they said all american cokes are nut free, however the cokes in Club Cool are imported from all over the world, and they couldn't say for sure about other countries, they are looking into it and will be getting back to us with the info. I will post here when they do.

Yes, they are all Coke products from around the world.
There are about 10 different ones and Coke should be able to get the ingredient lists for you. At the Coke Headquarters in Atlanta, they serve a huge number of other samples from around the world, so it would be harder keeping track of what was in what.

As for "Club Cool" my younger one has been drinking soda out of there every year for many years with no reaction. He has a tree nut/peanut/shellfish allergies.

Of course, as we discovered, it seems he isn't as allergic to some tree nuts (he was served almonds and ate a sliver or two at Raglan Road). As you know, sometimes with nuts you may not have a reaction one time but a huge one the next so we aren't taking chances.

He really enjoys drinking the sodas that I find least appealing (like that Japanese/veggie one). My guess is that they are safe but always good to check.

To the OP, I have a DD10 allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, soy and bananas. I would agree with other posters that all Disney owned restaurants are really great dealing with food allergies. I think most TS restaurants have the ability to make allergy safe waffles on dedicated equipment. We usually only do one sit down breakfast per trip and prefer to eat other mornings in our room. I order my DD yogurt, cereal bars, milk, juice boxes, etc. from gardengrocer so that we have a supply of allergy safe, quick food on hand in the room. (among other items we order for the room)

Our favorite TS for DD10 are 50s Prime Time Cafe, Rose-n-Crown Pub, 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace, and Cape May Buffet. Favorite CS include Yorkshire Fish Shop, Pizza Safari, and Casey's Corner(?). I would add that we just came back from a trip and had a bad experience at the Pepper Market regarding food allergies (and food poisoning--ugh). The same company that runs all the food service at CSR also runs the Mexican eateries in the World Showcase at Epcot. I would advise to skip these places altogether if you have a food allergy.

For baked goodies, I highly recommend Babycakes in DTD. We went there and got a half dozen assorted frosted chocolate cupcakes and brownies and kept them in the fridge in our room(for freshness and convenience). They were DELICIOUS! My DD10 felt so special to finally get real desserts on a trip that were not prepackaged in a plastic bag. DD13 and I also ate the goodies and both agreed they were worth every penny. Yummers!
