My sister and I are tackling a dual family vacation with our kids in September of 2003 and I need advice! The ages of the kids at the time of sailing will be 14, 13, 13, 12, 11 and 10. We have two girls (13 & 11) and the rest are boys. They all get along wonderful together but they do have their "favorites."

The 12 y/o is my son who will be seven weeks shy of his 13th birthday when we sail. He is has a very close relationship with his 13 y/o brother and 14 y/o cousin.

Do you think he would be okay in the Common Grounds or is his birthday too far away? Will they even let him into Common Grounds?

I think he would be a little disappointed to have to go to the lab (willing but disappointed). On the flip side, I'm afraid he will not fit in with other teen cruisers in Common Grounds because his age at the time will be 12.

Your thoughts and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Only you know your child, if he is mature enough. But, if you say he is close to his 13 yo brother and 14 yo cousin, I would bump him up. If they won't let you, just ask for the manager of the kids lab. My 6 yo DD was quite bored in the kids club, so I asked if I could bump her up to the 8 yo group with her other 6 yo friend who was quite bored also, and the club mgr. said no problem, but I would have to pick which one and stick with it, so she would be accounted for in a particular group. It wound up she stayed with the 5-7 group because she only went in once since she was so bored and that was when we went to Palo's. My DD was bored because at night they only watch a movie and put out mats for them to lay on and she's in 1st grade and asked what is this pre school. They also have a tiny little slide/playground, more meant for 3-4 yo. Definitely too small for a 6 and 7 yo.

Good Luck

I am pretty sure they have to be one month shy of a birthday to be admitted to the "older" club. I guess you could talk to the manager of CG, but remember that teens 13-17 go there and there is a big difference in age from 12-17.
