I just sent a pm to someone regarding renting DVC points for a one night stay at AKL. :) I saw from looking at the Disney site that the date I am looking for is Columbus day Weekend. I'm from Canada so I never even realized it until I went on the Disney sight to check what the price of rooms actually are to compare the cost of renting points vs paying for the room through Disney.

The weird thing is when I look up AKL, it lists the dates specifically under a category for Columbus day for AKL deluxe resort. When I look up Jambo House and Kidani village under the Deluxe Villa category to see what the rates would be, there is no special category for Columbus day nor can I find the dates for that weekend. Does anyone know, am I missing something here?

It's under Regular Season 2. I just looked it up.

I didn't like the look of AKL as the African theme and animals just didn't entice me but booked it due to it being the only resort available. I am happy to say I was totally wrong.

The resort is relaxed and wonderful and will stay there again in the future. If I was being totally picky I wish the slide and child's water playground that are in kidani were in Jambo but it's no big deal.

I know what you mean. It looked nice in photos, but too remote for my family. Then we booked a dinner at Boma and visited the resort -- we were blown away and I suddenly understood what others had been writing about. We knew right then and there that we would stay at AKL on our next trip, and we've stayed there ever since (always a split-stay with another resort -- and I would love to try WL -- but we just can't give up AKL).

Hey all!:goodvibes

This is the 1st time in a while I've been on long enough for the DIS to not crash on me for me to get here.
Impossible for me to catch up:faint:

Hope everyone is doing well.

Work has been crazy, we bought out another company and no one knows what the heck is going on.

I just got over round 3 of bronchitis or whatever it is, then I hurt my knee so took some time off from power walking..Then I hurt my elbow, I know it's from too much typing, FB games, etc.

So I had a rough week, and to make it worse, I didnt get accpeted into the college I applied for:mad: And I've still got no reason why....Scott is doing well, though...They took some of the credits he earned from NE School of Finance, and they applied to this school, and were able knock off 5 courses!:thumbsup2

43 more days until Kidani! I need it bad:worship:

:wave2: Hi Jen... sorry to hear about everything you been through but glad you are on the mend.

MMMM.... can I have some now:cloud9:

After three value stays, two moderate stays, we have booked our first deluxe resort for our next trip. The family thinks we're going back to POP. But sshhhh... I booked AKL this morning! Yippee:goodvibes

:cool1: You'll going to love it here.

Also, if you are doing a split stay, will the resort move your luggage for you. It would be nice if we did this to be able to get up, check out, go wherever for the day and get our luggage moved for when we get back to check into AKL.

Does anyone think this could work or is a rotten idea. I don't want to waste that extra day moving luggage etc. I might see about renting points for that one day. I think I saw somewhere that it would be 16 DVC points for one night or something like that. Do people who generally rent points rent out a small amount for just one night?

Any info or input would be great. I might just get my night at AKL yet. :wizard:

We do split stays on almost every trip now and it really is easy peasy with moving luggage. You will have bell services from your resort pick up your luggage and transport it to your new hotel. They will tell you it usually will take about 3 hrs to get to your new resort, so we usually check in then hit the parks and come back later when we know our luggage will be here.

Good afternoon, Js & Ks!

Last Monday it was 90. Today it is 48.

:cold: I know what crazy weather we have had on the East Coast.:confused3

I am all packed. Two more days at work and I am officially on vacation.

Just make sure you book your DVC room quick. We kept going back and forth if we wanted to go that weekend last year and then it didn't matter as there were no DVC studios in any of the resorts due to the F&W Festival and Columbus Day. We were smart this year and already booked the WLV.

Hi! I'm back home Js & Ks!! Lots to do to get caught up, but had to check in this morning! :)

I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but check out this mousesavers link and you'll see the rates for your dates (Regular 2):
http://www.mousesavers.com/animalkingdomvillas2012.html

Celidh, I might be confused (still recovering from a LONG work week!), but weren't you planning to rent points? Your dates fall into "Choice Season" for DVC. 12 points for a Standard View Studio; 16 points for a Savannah View Studio.

Jumping in here....I got through about 20 pages, but got tired and figured I'd just post already! LOL

Just booked today for AKL CL June 15-23! I'm so, so, so excited!!!! Any tips/advice? Should I put in any kind of room request? I hope to learn a lot from you all!

Forgot to ask if y'all had any tips for driving around the world from AKL? We'll have our car! TIA!

I have added you to the list...

Congratulations on your trip, you are gonna love CL!

I have something to celebrate. After living in the UK for nearly 16 years, I have finally decided to apply for British Citizenship. The first step in this process is sitting and passing the Life in Britain test. This is fiendishly difficult and a lot of British people cannot pass this either. Well, I have been studying every spare minute that I had for the last 3 weeks and yesterday I passed this on the first attempt. I am so relieved. As soon as I get back from our vacation, I will put in the application and hopefully when I go to WDW in November, it will be with a British passport.

Corinna

Corinna, Congratulations and way to go on the test, 1st tries is wonderful!

We're going the last week in Sept. and staying at AKL for the 1st time (hence my ticker below ;) ) Anyway, we definitely couldn't afford anything but the standard room, but what are the odds of us getting upgraded??? It is our 15th Anniversary after all :scratchin
I've read of other people getting there before check-in time (like we will), dropping off their bags and when they come back later that night they find that they've been upgraded! pixiedust:

So...what do you think our odds are, and is there anything we can do to up our odds of this happening??? LOL ;)
:listen:

If you would like to be added to the List just let me know and congratulations on booking your trip.

I think that the smaller your trip amount (i.e a couple of days vs a week) gives you a greater percentage of being upgraded.

Once again Kim, I told you I have 7 points left over....Your more than welcome to use them for X-mas or something...LoL. Why don't you and Dyl just go if DH doesn't want to... Maybe like late August...LoL You know our other DSis will be there for 2 days right..?

Kimmar.....:confused3

Tennis shoes are perfect for Vegas. There is a lot of walking in that town. You will be in perfect style. Plus, I have never seen a picture of you looking anything less than great! Have fun Brandi and don't overdue. :)

Ann

I got a lot of steps in and way more than I have been doing up to this point...

But AS long as I did my stretches and keep the pace equal to my drinking it all worked out....:rotfl:

I did over 5 miles one day, the day it was 99, but most of it was inside.

A friend just got back from AKL and they were denied entrance into Samawati Springs Pool because they were not staying at Kidani.:confused3

I thought you were allowed to use that pool If you were staying at AKL?:scratchin

Any thoughts on this? We are booked there in July .

FYI....

Because of expected high occupancy, you cannot pool hop during the following dates this year:

February 19 to 25
March 31 to April 14
May 26 to 28
June 29 to July 7
August 31 to September 3
November 19 to 25
December 16 to Jan 5 of 2013
Disney has the option to add more blackout dates, if they choose, should the resorts fill to capacity.

Ann, you're right, zebra domes were offered in the CL when I was there, but that was over a year ago so they might have changed. I'm going to have to do lots of research when I'm there next!

i have stayed CL 3 times and have NEVER had ZD in the lounge while I was there....:sad2:

It is all happening at the moment. I got home today and DH handed me a rather official looking envelope. I got summoned for jury service at the local Coroner's Court. At this rate they will forget what I look like at work. First I am on vacation for nearly a month and once I am back, I will be at work for two weeks before doing jury service for three weeks. I am pretty excited though. I did jury service at a different kind of court about 5 years ago and loved every minute of it.

Corinna

Oh my. What kind of cases do they have at Coroner's Court? Medical related is all I can think. I think I'd enjoy something like that too.

Any sudden and unexpected death.

Corinna

Jury duty in the UK must be very different than the US! I've never known anyone to look forward to it. Mostly from the lost wages, and at least in CA courthouses are normally in an undesirable part of town and often draw that type of people inside. Lots of security and metal detectors involved.

I'm glad it is something fun for you to look forward to.

Most people in the UK don't look forward to it either. All of the above is true over here as well apart from the undesirable area. The new court house is in a very fashionable area of Manchester. Here, the court pays you when they are in session. With me working shifts I also should be able to go into work after court and on weekends.

Corinna

I have served several times and always enjoyed it, I thought it was great to see our court system at work and to see a jury of peers way someone guilt and innocence... And this kind sounds so much more interesting, I am sure you will enjoy it.

So excited to be staying at AKL for first time Oct 21-27. The only hitch in the plan is that the only rooms available were bunk bed rooms or suites. It will just be DH and myself. I was hoping for a CL or Savannah room with a request for a King size bed. I ended up booking a Savannah view bunk bed room just to get the reservation made so I could make ADR's next week. I'm hoping something else will open up. Is it common for AKL to run out of regular rooms this time of year?

I have added you to the "list" and congratulations on your trip! October is a wonderful time to visit...

This will be our first time at AKL. My DH & I have stayed at a lot of the other resorts but have always wanted to stay here. We have rented points for a 2 bedroom in KV for Nov. 17-24th. It is a standard view and now I am wondering if I'm going to regret not getting a savannah view. Also, this will be a first trip for my DB, DSIL and kids 3 & 5. Is there anything that are must do's at the resort? I want this trip to be extra special for them since it's their first trip.

I have added you to the "list" and congratulations on the trip, the kids young and young at heart are going to love AKL... Make sure you pick up the events schedule when you get there and that should help you in planning...
