Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Question

So right at 12:01am on my 30 day mark I logged in to get fast passes and the Mine Train was already not available (we are staying off site so had to wait until 30 days out rather than 60). I've been periodically checking but the Mine Train is never available for fast passes. I guess this makes sense as I can't imagine anyone switch away from it, creating openings.

With no fast pass what is the best time of day to hit the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? Rope drop is not a possibility as we won't get there until an hour after opening. Are we better off waiting until early evening? I'm expecting a 90 minute wait but would love to go at a shorter wait time if possible in the August heat.

If they have a late night EMH while you are there, that seems to have more reasonable waits the later it gets.

How many people are you trying to book for at once? if it is a larger group trying one at a time... I know when I was doing it for a group of Ten i wouldnt find anything but when I broke the group up I was able to get over lapsing times.. And for A&E I kept doing this for weeks until I was able to get enough close enough together.... Other then that get on line at the end of the night for about a 20 min wait (was shorter for me at midnight on a non EMH night then 1 am on a EMH night FWIW)

Jump in line about 10 minutes before the park closes, no matter what the wait you'll get to ride it. You'll sweat less in the moonlight humidity than the sunlight humidity :woohoo:

7DMT is rarely available at the 30 day mark. In fact- I'd say at the 50 day mark they are harder to come by. This to me is a HUGE reason to book onsite.

This is basically what I was going to say. If you get in line right before park closing, your wait shouldn't be too bad. There are no FastPass returns coming in after the park closes, so the standby line moves pretty quick. We've done this twice now. Once with a 60 minute posted wait and got on in 25 minutes, the other time with a 75 minute posted wait and we got on in 30 minutes.

on www.easywdw.com
he breaks it down very well. give you an idea of the best time to try stand by but be prepared for 45 atleast

We're also going in August. I tried to book SDMT on the first day our FP window opened and it was booked, but it was also well past midnight when I tried. That night, I purposely stayed up and went in at midnight and was able to get it for the 2nd day of our visit. It's for 9:25pm but we're fine with that.

I think it is really just a 'luck of the draw' kind of thing. I was also able to get dinner reservations at Be Our Guest surprisingly. I had checked earlier in the day online and there were no openings. That night, lying in bed, I checked with the app and there was an opening, so I grabbed it.

If you haven't yet checked every day of your trip, don't give up yet. Otherwise, I agree that I'd rather stand in line in the evening than during the heat of mid-day.

:mickeyjumI am concerned about Mine Train as well. We are going for spring break in about 30 days!! I was able to book mine train around 11am on our first day at MK. We will be there a second day and I am wondering if I should grab another fastpass for mine train on that day, while I can. The only problem is, I already see that the times on that day for mine train are starting at 5pm onward. That would mean tieing up our first 3 passes and not being able to get a 4th till after 5pm. We are seeing A&E that day, with a 3:30 to 4:30 window anyway. Before that I have Splash Mountain and Thunder Moutain in the noon hours. Thought about dropping one of those and booking Mine Train. Wonder if on our first day actually there at the parks it would even be possible to get Mine Train after using our first passes by 1:25. Any thought from anyone on how fast the Mine Train passes are gone;particularly if we book at the park. Also how is the standby line???? I thought I read that it moves quickly. Best time to get in that? Is anyone else going crazy determining getting passes 9/10 10/11 11/12 right off the bat and moving to 4th?? Or focusing more on getting the big ticket hard to get things more spread out or at peak times and not worry about how many you get in a day?? I am torn. Was even thinking about doing one day (out of the 2 we will be at MK) using the before lunch strategy and then on the 2nd day letting it all go to pot and booking a later mine train pass/thereby stalling my changces of the 4th and so on. What is everyones strategy or preference with this new 3 and more system? I am new to the boards and so happy to be able to rattle on in anticipation of my upcoming spring break trip:mickeyjum

I've never been offered, nor have I heard of anyone else being offered, 7DMT as a fourth fastpass in the park. You could be better off assuming that you won't be able to get it as a 4th.

What I would do is get the FPs for the top 3 things that are very important for you to be able to see without a wait. Then see what you can get as a 4th. Personally I don't pay a lot of attention to how late they will expire and getting additional fastpasses. There is usually something available unless you are very close to park closing. The big question is whether you would actually want to have FPs for the things that are available.

I'd get the second pass while you can. If you decide you don't want ride it again, then swap it for something else. Also, keep in mind the ride is a bit different after dark. I'd recommend experiencing it during the day and at night.

Keep checking the My Disney Experience app! I recently moved to Orlando and got resident passes, I've been able to get fast passes the day before and the day of, just by checking constantly. Be prepared for later ride times tho, the earliest I've been able to get them were 7:15 PM.

I agree! I have had great luck finding the FPs that I want just by stalking either the MDE app or MDE on my computer. I was able to get 7DMT for all 3 of my MK days (less then 60 days out) AND the Anna & Elsa M&G. Good luck and don't give up.

I've seen several people say that more 7DMT passes popped up about a week before their trip. Keep checking until the last minute and you might get lucky. I booked right at the 30 day mark and was able to get one for the end of February, but I'm going solo which I'm sure makes a difference.

It must be the spring break crowds. We are staying offisite the first week of March, I booked SDMT at the 30 day mark with a choice of times (from 5pm til closing) on both of our MK days. They were still available to change times a couple of days later. The only attractions I couldn't get were Anna and Elsa and Peter Pan. Keep checking for cancellations or try standby during Wishes/Electric Parade.

When we were there in mid October, we manager to ride it 3 times with a reasonable wait an no fastpasses. Twice, we headed over there to check out the wait times right around the evening parade time and found it less than 30m for a brief moment even though the sign was still showing 50m. The third time was during MNSSHP, so I suppose that wouldn't really count. But there definitely seemed to be a drop during the parade / fireworks.

Our FP showed up about an hour before we rode it. Had tied and tried and nothing, but on the day, there it was.

Without FP, (and I would suggest you keep checking) the best times are at RD, during parades/fireworks, and towards closing time. You might also want to look at crowd levels as a guide for the best days to try. While its not that great of a perk........without the FP you'll get to see the full queue. We did 7DMT only via FP and never did see the games on the queue ( I realize that's not a great conciliation prize  ). Not sure if you've ever done the ride..........I've included our Sept trip video that I took from the 7DMT............for the ride you need to go past the splash mtn section towards the end...

Have a great vacation!

Doug :goofy:
