So, DW has said that we can't take our DS, (now 3 weeks old), to any Disney park until he's 4. Furthermore, to "reset the freshness" for us, we're not allowed to go until then, either. I'm arguing that 3 is a fine age, but mostly because there's a huge difference between a 3 year wait and a 4 year wait. Thoughts?

Four years would be too long for me to wait!

If you are going to be waiting a few years to go, I wouldn't even argue about it now....it's so far off. I'd let it go....she will change her mind by then. :)

Took our son for his third birthday - he was potty trained. We have taken him every year since. Three was fine, it was all so magical for him. We are taking him on the Disney Cruise this year. :cool1:

I took my DD when she was 2 months old so I am the wrong one to ask.I love the under 3 and they are free time frame honestly!

Well my rule is that I will not take a child under 6 months old but think the 1st birthday is an ideal time for a first trip. We waited too long to take our DS but we pray that adoption may add to our family and that little one willl get a first trip between 6 mo and a year old. There is something really special about toddlers at WDW too. I would push for the free before three deal!

You need to tell your wife that if you go before he is 3 yrs old, it's free for him to go to the parks, and he eats for free at the buffets. If you wait until he is 4, then you'll have to pay for him... :thumbsup2

We took both our kids just before their 3rd bday. They were free that way. Also, my rule is, as soon as they are potty trained it is ok to take them. Both of my kids had a blast and still remember their 1st time in Disney. This May we are doing our 1st Disney Cruise. My rule for that one was that they be 5yrs old. My youngest is now 5 and we are going. We plan on leaving them in the kids club quite a bit, so we wanted them to be at least 5.

DD, now 3, went to Disneyland when she was in utero, 7 months, 2, and 2 1/2. In between, we took her to Disney World at 1 1/2. DS went to Disneyland in utero and when he was 8 months old. He will go to Disney World for the first time in 2 weeks (at 1 1/2).

IMO, it is never too early to take your children to Disney. It is such a magical place.

DD3 has been so excited about this trip for weeks. She can't stop talking about it.

If you must wait, definitely go at 3 yrs!

We took our son when he was a bit over 2. He loved it. We had older ones with us so we seperated often but he loved the age appropriate things the train, toontown, the safari, the boneyard in AK,whatever they are calling the people mover,HISTKids playground, even the monorail. He loved blizzard beach. I swear he was the easiest one on that trip - no whining! He was potty trained so that helped. Go have fun I just wouldn't plan too many sit down meals that is a long time to stay quiet and still. If you go when he is 2 you can go again when he is 4 because they will be in a totally different age group! I forgot took a few naps thru COP, Hall of Presidents, American adventure. worked well

Our three kids had there first visits to WDW shortly after their 1st birthday. It was great, yea maybe they won't remember but YOU will. At that age they aren't demanding, or know what you do or don't do there. Plus, they are free!

TWO = FREE, plus he'd be at a great age. Took our DD when she was 2, 3 & 4.....

We took our oldest two (dd 11, ds 7) when they were 3. It was a great age. They were old enough to get around, stand the heat, ask for what they needed, etc. They could sit in a restaurant for a decent amount of time (ds not as well as dd).

The best argument for going at this age is-- how to put this on a family board- so as not to ruin it for little kids... At 3, both of them had a much weaker grasp of what is fantasy and what isn't-- for example with character interaction. They loved the characters. Meeting them made them feel very special. By age 4 or 5, they still loved the characters but it wasn't the same because they were older and had a different view of the world. For that reason alone, the trip at a younger age is priceless.

Your child is 3 weeks old? Could be that your DW can hardly imagine going to the grocery store, let alone Disney World with the baby!

Four years is a loooonnnnngggg time to wait - I agree with taking them when they are under three, not only free but a wonderful age to go. My DD's were two, and they were just in awe!

My son will be just DAYS before his third Bday. Closest we could get for free. We took his older sister a couple years ago when she was 1.5, she was ENTHRALLED and LOVES to look at teh pix.

I try and get as many trips in before they turn 3, they're free! :thumbsup2

DS had two trips to WDW before he turned 3, and DD will have three trips before she turned three. I loved taking both of them at 2. I thought some of the moments were priceless only a 2 year old can do.

Everybody is different and what works for one won't work for another. I loved taking our children when little, under 4. It is all so real to them. They see it so differently. For example, when DS#1 was 3 and he got of Star Tours he couldn't believe the robot took them the wrong way. At 4, he was floored because "he took the wrong turn again!". Now at 5, "it's all pretend mom."

When DS#2 was 15 months, he didn't really care about WDW, even though he had gone before. But after that trip, it's excitement over all the characters. He actually recognizes everything Disney, including the word & all the theme music. It's "go Disney?"

Babies are so portable. I don't find diapers a hindrence. It's actually easier before they are potty trained, imo. With a little planning there is next to no extra work. And hey, before 3 they are FREE!

Our next trip is in Dec; we're sneaking it in a few weeks before DS#2 turns 3 so we don't have to pay. And we don't want DS#3 to be too old before his first trip. I'd take them all NOW if I could for a bonus trip.

We have taken our sons when they were as little as 8 months, 18 months, 3 years 3 months and 3 years 6 months.

The best trip was when they were free they did have a good time and with them in a stroller it was so easy. I do not do big rollercoasters my DH does so we would just wait for him. But we did everything else with them.

my nephew was 3 1/2 and my niece was 1 1/2 - they both loved it!!! and had a great time!!!

It was difference they both everything was real....that makes it extra special.

Our kids have been when they were 9 months, 2 1/2 years, and 4 1/2 years. The easiest trip was when they were 9 months and the most difficult was when they were 2 1/2.
