If you are still there, congrats! And Thanks!
Still just the two of us, no kids.
Day 5, our last day in the parks
We spent the last day at Epcot, our fave. We got in when it opened and did the Hidden Treasures tour. We went through all of the countries and it was well worth it. However all day long it looked like rain. Thank goodness it didn't. I got some nice pictures with no people around, but the clouds didn't help. There were about 16 people on the tour. It was nice to be alone! These are some of the things we learned:
Canada: they have a new totem pole and it has 2 hidden Mickies on it. It is right next to the Trading Post. It was hand made by a native artist. We went backstage and saw the Rockey mountains from the back. Very strange!
UK: The cross in the center of the road is a Market Cross. The pub has 4 different themes, country, city, riverside, and fish and chips. (?)
France: The Eiffel Tower is on the roof, you can not get there. We went backstage here also.
Morocco: All of the tile was hand made and hand placed by Moroccan artists sent over by their king. The king originally wanted to do the whole pavilion in gold! The city is also in 2 sections, the outer city and the inner city. To get to the inner city you have to go through the city gates. This part of the city is older and more run down.
Japan: The restaurants and store are owned by a Japanese company, not Disney. Their workers get to come over here as a reward.
America: They used forced perspective in reverse. Have someone go over to one of the doors and stand by it. They look normal until you see someone standing next to them, then they seem huge!
Italy: To make it look bigger than it is, they added trees in the back. But if you stand on the bench you can see the American building just goes on and on.
Germany: There is a Hummel clock and the kids move around evey half and hour. The mini train set is really detailed!
Norway: The castle has boarded up windows because this is how the real castle was defended. What are they afraid of at Disney? Angry tourists?
China: This is cool; go into the round temple that you go in to see the film. Stand in the exact center and say something. It is acoustically perfect so you can hear yourself talk! It is a strange experience. Also, the film is getting old but they don't want to redo it. It can't be redone. When they made this the filmmakers were blindfolded and taken to some of these places and they don't know how to get back! The government doesn't want us to know where they are.
Mexico: It is inside because most of the activity in Mexico takes place in the cooler evening. Daytime is so hot everyone takes a siesta. They also had to put up barriers to the stairway entrances to the pyramid, they are not to be climbed and people were trying to climb them!
When we were done the guide gave us some nice booklets and sent us on our way. You know what we were thinking, LUNCH! We started off in Norway since we were close and at at the restaurant there. We only had dessert but Seth said the buffet looked good. (I didn't think so) We had the Millinium dessert. A chocolate Spaceship Earth filled with ricecream and with strawberry jam on the side. YUMMY! I wish we could have had more of these. Every restaurant had their own version. They were expensive!
Next was Yakatori house. We really like this one, but it seems to be hit or miss sometimes. This time we only had a bowl of udon soup. That's noodles and veggies in a broth. Very good. I like to look at the plastic food.
Then on th the UK for some fish and chips for Seth. Torture! It's not fair! I want a greasy lunch too. But noooo, that's not for me. I went to the MV for another pineapple shrimp sandwich like I'd had my 1st day. Nothing was very busy.
Now it's time for Future World. I did Test Track, DH doesn't like it, and I found out the FP line is longer than the singles line. I only had to wait 10 min! There was a familly in front of me that was mad when their little boy had to be seperated from his parents to ride. The CM kept explaining that they had got in the SINGLES line and therefore you would be riding ALONE and NOT with your party. The patience these CM have! We say Krystos, the Coke exhibit- no Beverly!, and the Fountain go off.
The new Journey into Your Imagination ride could be so much better than it is, it just lacks, well, imagination. There is nothing to look at. It's kind of bland. We walked right on, but skipped the Honey I Shrunk movie. We walked right on to the Land and suprisingly didn't eat there like we usually do. Then we headed over to the Living Seas and looked about. It's looking old. We were dragging by the time we had walked around Innoventions and although there were no lines, we didn't do anything except send an e-mail poastcard.
So what time is it now? Tea time! Or at least time for some food. We went to the Fountain View Cafe. It is really and truly good. I had a chocolate truffle cake and Seth had a Millinium Cheesecake and a coffee. So pepped up we went on Spaceship Earth. I love they way they make it smell with the fake fire and everything. They updated the ending and for once we didn't get stuck. Still no lines! Well this is all we really like to do here, so back to World Showcase!
And some shopping. We bought more gifts, lots in France (I teach French) and got to talk French with some natives. We got a spot for the TON Parade in Morocco again, but on the side closer to America, where we saw the start of one parade and the ending of another. I really love this parade! And still, no crowds. We did some shopping in Japan, and then....
Dinner time! And just in time, too. It had started to rain. So we went to the Matsu-No-Ma lounge for some sushi. We got a spot in front of the window, had Miso soup, warm sake, green tea, and lots and lots of sushi. Bring it on! I think I'm going to tell Seth we need to go out for dinner tonight, this is making me hungry!
So we ate, talked to our kimono'd server, and watched everyone stand out in the rain waiting for the fireworks. It was really raining and eventually almost everyone gave up. The lounge is a good place to watch but you can't hear the music. A better place is on the balcony in front of the lounge, and it was indeed full. It was pretty to see the Gate of Honor silhoutted against the fire barge.
Too soon everything was over and closing, so we made our way to the exit. Still raining, we covered ourselves on ponchos so as not to get our loot wet. We went back through Mouse Works and as promised we spent money. It made the CM's proud.
We said our good-byes to the fountain and the Big Ball. It was very sad. This was an incredible vacation where everything seemed to meld just right!
Thanks for sticking with me. I hope you enjoyed it. I'll put one more post on probably tomorrow about what I learned and what I would do again or different. And also about the horrible flight home where I just knew we were all going to die. I'm tired of typing, and my DH has just promised me we can go out for dinner. Bye!
