Hello all Disboard members I am looking for information and touring tips for Sesame Place.

Our specifics would be 2 families traveling down from Massachusetts in our Motor Home kids ages would be 8,6,4 and 3. late-June or mid-July? We are going to do a midweek trip to avoid some of the crowds. How long to devote to touring the park? Do they have motor home parking, cost of MH parking? Any reccomendations on nearby campgrounds for the night before? What do you think, lunch in park or in Motor home? Any other tips or reccomendations?

Thanks so much for any advice!!!!

I went several years ago. My kids LOVED it and they were 10 and 7. It is primarily a water park with many water slides. When we went there was 1 roller coaster. We also camped but we stayed a a campground further away. If you want a suggestion of other things to do in the area, ther is the Crayola Factory Tour in Eaton(?) PA. Lots of fun there. Sorry I don't have up to date info but wanted to let you know this park is a great place!!

Are you making this your whole vacation? Sesame Place is a really small, day trip 'kinda' place. I am so surprised that someone from so far away even heard about it.

You may want to combine your trip with someplace else. Lancaster, PA is about an hour away. Dutch Wonderland ( amusement park ) is there and is good for kids. It's in the heart of Amish country, so it's neat to see them driving their horse and buggys. Hershey Park is a little farther west and that's a great family place.

Crayola Factory is probably in Easton PA.

Here's another thought....sorry...I'm thinkin here :)

Valley Forge National Park is not too far away either. I'm gonna guess 45 minutes tops in Philly traffic. It's located in Fort Washington Pa, so maybe you can do a search for campgrounds in that area. I know they are there...I camped in one a long time ago.

When we went to sesame place it was just a stop on the way to hershey...not worth more than a days stay thats for sure. The weekends are packed with families but the weekdays are packed with summer camps and those kids were running wild. The food there is crazy expensive so if you want to save money eat in your motor home!

We live near Sesame Place. Parking cost $10 for cars, $14 for preferred. Bus parking is ten so maybe that includes MH's. They now have Sesame Character Breakfast if you want to check it out. I don't know about camp sites. Early morning and after 3pm are the least crowded. You only need one day to visit. I agree, food in the park is expensive. There are plenty of fast food & sit down restaurants nearby - most have large parking lots to handle your MH. Often we see families eat in the parking lot near their car. The parking lot is within walking distance of the park. The sun gets hot so remember sunscreen for the kids as well as footwear because the pavement gets hot, too when walking to and from each attraction. Rental lockers and rental strollers are available. Try to catch the parade. If you have any more questions, I can try to find the answer. I noticed your from MA, go Red Sox!

I live about 10 minutes from Sesame so if you need any info on the area just let me know. I don't know of any campgrounds in the immediate area. There are a few in the surrounding area about 45-60 min north. ( Upper Black Eddy, Lumberton, Easton area ) Easton would be closer to 2 hours away.

If you head about and hour west towards Lancaster there are TONS of campgrounds. There is one Directly behind the Dutch WonderLand Amusement park.

I really don't think that you would need more then one day in the park. As far as eating I have seen many people eating Picnic lunches at tables or on blankets under the FEW trees in the parking Lots. Also name a chain or Fast Food place and it is somewhere around there.

You guys are great!! Okay, I think the plan will be to leave MA early in the AM and travel down to the Crayola Factory then on to the Campground where ever that will be (I think the one in Upper Black Eddy is a possibility, Colonial Woods?). Wake up the next AM and go to Sesame Place (for opening), if it is a one day park we will be able to leave there (maybe about 6pm) and head back to MA. We won't be getting in until late (12 or 1), but that will be okay its comfortable in the Motor Home. Does this sound do-able?

I am glad to hear the parking lot is in walking distance, I think we will definately go back to the MH for lunch. Maybe to the dry rides and shows in the AM then change into the swimsuits and sandals after we eat or vice versa. Suggestions?

Anything else I should know???

What is the Crayola Factory like will the young ones like it (3 and 4?)

:thumbsup2 Yeah Sox!!!! :cheer2:

Do they still offer a deal where the second day is free?

If that is so, then I'd say go for the second day.

Sesame Place is like Disney Land - you're driving along this busy street and there it is, in the midst of madness.

You'll spend more time wet than dry.

Your game plan sounds do-able. Let me add that you may want to check out parking your MH (I don't know the size) at the Crayola Factory. MH metered parking is available on Bank St. one block south of Twin Rivers Landing. Your children are the perfect age to visit. We only needed a 1/2 day at the factory. Finally, both Sesame Place & Crayola Factory have websites with all the information you need to have a fun vacation!

There is also a wonderful short tour of the Sturgis Pretzel factory the link is http://www.sturgispretzel.com/VisitUs.htm
I apologize if that doesn't work--I am a computer idiot!

it is located in a pretty little town on the way to Lancaster, PA. You get a hands on lesson on making pretzels, a bakery cap & a 'diploma'-
of course, there is a lot to do (& eat!) in & near Lancaster--
We loved SP yrs ago but we went in mid May during a weekday. Being there to get up at the front for rope drop is a good thing--
Does anyone know if they still allow coolers in the park? Years ago they did allow visitors to bring in coolers w/food & drinks. there were also lockers.
there used to be a parade & if you were fleet of foot you could sign up the children to participate. the sign up place was a simple cart on the right as you walked(ran) in & spots filled up quickly--perhaps you could call ahead to check up on any of these opportunities or is anyone here up to date?

We also did a little bit of Philadelphia--Liberty Bell, Independence Hall. there are Park service folks & they made it interesting, even for our DSthen6! oh, FYI, avoid at all costs, buying the mini Liberty Bells for the kiddos--Wow! way too noisy in the hands of a 6 yr old! :scared:

we drove from NH but left at night to avoid the morning traffic jams--of course, that gave DS plenty of time to sleep & we were pooped! :teeth:

Have a blast
Jean

Colonial Woods in UBE is nice but it's just your basic campground. From UBE to SP is about 45 minutes. Your best bet would be to take Rte 32 in PA to Frenchtown Bridge in NJ. Go Rte 29 till 95 and then get off at the Langhorne exit. You can see a giant water tower with Big Bird and stuff on it. IF you want better directions just let me know. I grew up in UBE

I wouldn't bother changing the kids into clothes let them wear the suits all day just take t-shirts to pull on, there really is more wet than dry and it is spread out around the park. Plan on riding the rubber duckie family raft ride AS SOON as you get there in the morning! The lines for this get extemely long. Check the schedule for the big show in the amphitheater you will want to see this and it is at scheduled times, there used to be two different ones so ask which show is which. Remember water shoes or flip flops you need shoes to ride the roller coaster. This line will look long but it goes quick. Just like Disney the first parade is always the most crowded we always planned on watching the second parade, used to be around 6:30 then leaving of course riding the coaster once or twice on the way out, it is right by the exit. Sometimes we would ride rubber duckie if the line had finally let up. Your little ones will love the wave pool, mine always did. The waves are very gentle. This is the pool in twiddle bug land not over by the bigger slides. If it is warm you will need a whole day there really is a lot to do and it does get very crowded. Any other questions just ask We have been going for 20 years and my MIL still lives in the area and when we were there over Xmas we had to drive up with the kids and see it.(5 minutes from her house)

Check AAA for ticket prices or watch soda cans they usually run a deal or two through the summer.

I am glad to see the historical stuff get mentioned but if you are only going 2 days I wouldn't drive down to Philly this trip it would take you a half day to drive down see the bell and Independence Hall and drive back and that really wouldn't do it justice. It is a good excuse to wait a couple of years then add a day and do it again.

Love the tips, Thanks!!! Anyone else????

Mom2of2 those directions are great, will there be any problems getting through with my motor home on any of those roads. We have visited PA before (we went to Hershey last year with my older step-son and his cousins) I know sometimes the roads are tight.

If we were going for longer I would definately do Hershey again and some of the other things you all suggested, Pretzel Factory, Historic locations. Just a reason to plan another trip next year :teeth: !!!!!

You are driving all the way from Mass JUST to go to Sesame place?? I honestly dont think it is worth it! Its a small little park, nothing special...we have a water park here on Long Island that is ten times better than sesame place and closer to you! We were disappointed with sesame place, certainly not worth a few hours worth of driving just to go there...if it was a stop on the way to other things then its fine..but that as the reason for the trip..just not worth it in my opinion.

That is kind of disappointing to hear. Good thing my hubby likes to drive the Motor Home.

We will be going to Crayola Factory and camping for the night, but essentially yes we will be driving all that way to do Sesame. Call me crazy!!! I hope at least the kiddos will like it!!!!

You will be fine with the roads
