Service and the Dining Plan

I was wondering if anyone has noticed a lower level of service when the waitstaff knew you were on the dining plan?

I would think it would improve as they know they are guaranteed a decent tip and I would think most people would level a little additional for superior service (at least we plan to.)

Any observations?

You will probably get a few different answers on this one :) But for us the service was great at every restaurant we went too. We advised the wait staff at each place before ordering we were on the DP and they couldn't have been nicer or more efficient.

I never noticed a difference - they get a gratuity, so at least they know that there WILL be a tip.

I don't know if it's because Disney has such superb service....but I think that being on the dining plan we got better service, because they knew they were getting a good tip...not to mention we got more food!!!!!

We didn't experience any problems with service on our last trip. But to be honest, most of the time we didn't mention the Dining Plan until the end of the meal. I was comfortable with the DDP enough that I didn't need it explained to me at every restaurant. Not once, did we have a problem with figuring our bill by doing this, nor did the servers seem put out either. On the contrary, I think this was the first trip that we consistently experienced great service. Not a stinker in the bunch.

We had both good and bad service at different places. I was a server for 7 years, so I am very tolerant of less than stellar service when it is obvious the restaurant is busy, and we are also very good tippers. We usually left more than the amount included. Below are ratings of the service at some of the places we ate at:

Exceptional Service - Fulton's Crab House, Les Chefs de France
Good Service - Le Cellier, Teppanyaki, Sci-Fi
Bad Service - Crystal Palace (very rude and indifferent waiter)
Really, Really Bad Service - Maya Grill (host rude, server extremely slow and not typical Disney attitude)

We had the same experience. All of our servers were very friendly and helpful. All were familiar with the plan and I did not notice a lower level of service. Though, I must say many were grateful we informed them we were on the dining plan before order.

I think with the popularity of the Dining Plan there are as many people on the dining plan as not on the plan so I don't think many waitstaff want to tick off half the restaurant by giving them bad service.

We had excellent service most places (at Alfredo's the two steaks were cooked wrong and the manager came over and made everything right and there was certainly no attitude there). A few places, the waitstaff were not so familar with the dining plan (Planet Hollywood) but the service was still good (making suggestions, filling drinks, clearing dishes, making pleasantries).
