Server busy messages

I know everyone has been seeing the "server busy" message often and it's very frustrating. We just keep getting busier and the servers run out of steam. At one point today we had about 2000 users on.
I'm looking for short term solutions but the real answer is another server upgrade and that takes a little time to arrange. I think we have outgrown anything I can do with 2 servers and we are going to have to move to a server farm of 3 servers so it needs quite a bit of research. I'll try to get it done as fast as I can!

Have you thought about limiting the size of pictures, icons and avies? Some are HUGE and take up major space on the servers.

Amlee, actually they dont, pictures aren't stored on the same servers. Trust me if I thought it would help....
One thing you can always do if you think they slow you down is turn off pictures in signatures so you don't have to see them. I do that, it makes a real difference, just go to your user CP.
