So last week I called a salvage yard looking for a new front passenger door and fender (son had a little accident). I told him what I was looking for and he said they had them. I asked what color and he said blue. I was looking for a dark blue but he said the system didn't specify. Said he'd go out in the yard and call me back. A week later I call back and he says yeah, meant to call, blah blah blah and it is a dark blue. Great! I really would rather not get a paint job. So we get talking about colors and he says he'd check to see if there is a paint code so I would know for sure. Ok, that's fine although I was sure it would be fine.

Never called back (big surprise) so today I call and ask for Bob but he's not in. I explain the whole thing and he checks the system and its still there. I tell him I would like to come pick them up. No problem he says, give us about 45 minutes. Well I live an hour and a half away so no problem there. I waited an hour and then left. Get up there and they hadn't even taken the parts off yet. So they send the guy out back for them and a few minutes later he comes back and says I may want to take a look at them beforehand. Thought, ok, maybe he wants me to verify the color. We ride out there and the freaking door is bashed in. It couldn't have just happened because the dent was rusted already. The fender wasn't in any better shape.
What the heck! You're trying to sell me a messed up part. Really? Did ya think I wouldn't notice? And if Bob did go out and look at the car how the heck wouldn't he have seen that!

They were very apologetic and couldn't believe they even had those parts listed since they were junk. One of the guys went out to check the yard in case there was another one that wasn't logged in yet. No luck.
They called a yard down the road to see if they had any and they did. Went over there, talked to the guy there and says he hears my story a lot. Lovely. So now I have to drive another 3 hours on Monday to go get the parts (they couldn't pull them right then).

What a pain in the butt! So much for fixing the car this weekend.

Are you doing the repairs yourself?

When I had my tailgate repaired on my last van--actually replaced--my insurance required used parts if available and the body shop found me a used one and replaced it. I'm not sure I would have bothered with all of the leg work, but they made it seem so easy.

What a p.i.t.a. for you, phors. Actually, I thought you were going to say, you got there, they had the part and wanted like $300.00 for it ... that would have been a p.i.t.a as well.

What are they going to charge you anyway, the place down the street?

The first place was charging me $350. The Second one is charging me $275 so that's cool.
