You mean I wasn't supposed to start yet? :teeth: :drinking1 :shamrock:

Isn't it fun living/working near MSU on days like this???? I plan to stay far away from campus this weekend.

We were on campus attending a hockey game the night U of M came to play basketball in February. We couldn't decide if it would be better for MSU to win or lose...either way the kids would be drinking!

No kidding, Terri. I had to laugh--I work at LCC and they sent out an email to all faculty and staff about what to do if you found yourself caught up in a riot. It really should have gone to the students instead!

My son attends UW-Milwaukee and today is his 1st official day of Spring Break. Is he home-heck no. My husband wants to strangle him-He has his alarm set to 6:00 a.m. this morning. The bars can legally serve alcohol then, plus he wants the free t-shirt. I just got a phone call it's 11:50 a.m. and he said he is crawling into bed and will be home tomorrow morning. At least I know he is in bed sleeping. :rolleyes2

Reasons to drink early:

1. Getting ready for the game. Hey with those TV schedules forcing some college football teams to eary starts like 11:00 am sometimes its okay to start the game prep early.

2. Fishing: Whenever we go offshore fishing, we always adhere to the time honored tradition of a "jetty" beer, as soon as you pass the jetty's its time for the first beer of the day. This also helps determine those in the party that will be barfing their brains out for the rest of the day from sea sickness.

3. Vacation: What a great way to start a week off than relaxing right out of the chute with a cold one.

4. To much partying the night before: No better way to cure tha hangover than a little hair of the dog that bit you.

5. Saint Patricks Day: Hey the guy is credited with chasing all the snakes out of Ireland. As much as I hate those critters I think a little early morning celebration is in order.

6. March 2, and April 21: Texas Independence Day and the Anniversiry of the victory at the battle of San Jacinto, guess you need to be Texan but what the heck anyone that wants to start the party early I hereby designate you an honorary Texan for the day.

Other than those I can't think of anymore off the top of my head.

I live in Champaign, Illinois..home of the University of Illinois...our U of I celebrates "Unoffical St. Patty's Day" a week before St. P's day. Our local media had a hey day this year...a couple of high school students got caught drinking at a campus bar at 8am, and then sadly a young woman was killed in the afternoon. She was on the back of a Moped, fell off, and cracked her head so hard it killed her instantly. I have a feeling we won't be having "Unoffical" next year. Sorry for such a sad story on a fun day...be careful and have a great St. Pat's Day!

crap, we didn't invent "Jetty Beer!" down here? :teeth: I knew I had a long lost twin. places here were advertising an 8 AM breakfast...Kegs and Eggs. :) hell it's Florida, when the happy hour says 2 for 1 drafts, they don't charge you 1/2 price, they sit both mugs in front of you.

Happy St. Pats, it's 78 and sunny....! :drinking1

I plan on starting to drink about 4. I have to pre-drink before I go out so it doesn't cost as much.

I grew up in Peoria and had a lot of fun in places like Kam's and COD's. congrats Illini on last night. :drinking1

We worked 3rd shift and would leave at 6:30 to go celebrate st. pats day. And then sleep it off and (take the night off or since it is friday this year they most likely arent working tonight) go out again around 8pm tonight. Double dip away! Amazing I survived those years. I will admit to having a wine cooler with breakfast, when you are a 3rd shifter anything goes.

I don't know who invented it but rest assured when I fished a two day tournament out of Key West I honored the tradition. I have also honored it fishing in Cab San Lucas, the Cambell River in British Columbia, offshore fishing in Mexico and various other locations. Something about that salt air, the sunrise, and a cold beer that just go together.

'start cutting bait, and someone get me a beer.' I love tradition. by 2:00, we're usually napping somewhere in the Gulf with the anchor set. :)

I used to live in an apartment around the corner from an Irish pub here in Boston, and by the time I would leave for work, there would already be a line outside. I will say that I walked through the back bay area on my way to work this AM, past some pubs, and did not see much going on at all. I am sure that things have changed in the ensuing hours.

According to my brother, my nephew took today off in honor of St. Paddy's day and started drinking at 8 this morning. I don't mind a good party now and then, but 8 in the AM? :confused3

I remember times in New Orleans when some were STILL drinking at 7 AM. Not me, I was too tired. :)

I also remember drinking a bloody mary pretty early. It was strange but tasty.

The key is to drink slowly. Too many people guzzle their drinks and don't make it until noon.

...or Butte! :teeth:

Hey mtblujeans, that's where I grew up! What?!!, I wasn't supposed to have that shot of Bailey's in my coffee this morning! :rotfl2:

In college the bars would open around 7 before the homecoming parade - but most people were still up from finishing their floats from the night before - it did not seem too early then of course we also had pre pre parties (parties before the pre party :teeth:) starting around noon ON THE RIVER FRONT- literally on the bank sticking your feet in the Mississippi no less (not many good decisions being made at that time) Oh how I wish I had those days back-- sometimes

Luckily ASU's on spring break this week. I just got back from Hawaii yesterday, and our complex is pretty dead. Everyone is either in CA or Mexico, so hopefully we won't have too much of a problem. There is an irish bar on my street that has tents set up and everything, so that will probably be pretty crazy.

Be safe driving, everyone!

Sign in an Irish pub:
"This establishment closes at 11 o'clock sharp. We are open from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. and if you haven't had enough to drink at that hour the management feels that you haven't really been trying."
