When I was a receptionist, I got calls like that all the time.

Thank you for this thread. I do back-up for our receptionist, and got a doozie the other day. This guy was beligerent and hostile on the phone, and actually threatened to call the authorities because we had called him.

Well, we have 50 employees here, any one of which could have called you, and might have gotten the wrong number. Then I realized that this person thinks we are a telemarketer. So I explained to him that we do not solicit to individuals, that we do not even do any business locally, and that our sales office is not even located in this location. He would not let it go, and finally I hung up on him.

Get over it dude!

We do call back numbers that don't leave a message because we run a business and alot of our clients are older people who "don't trust those new fangled machines" We normally say when we do a call back "Hi this is my name owner of name of business someone called from this number and was just wondering if they needed anything." Usually we recognise the number but sometimes they are new clients. Very rarely do we get a number that don't know what we are talking about or don't know who it was that called. When we do get someone who doesn't have a clue who called our number we say thank you it must have been a wrong number and sorry for taking up your time.

We get these ALL the time. When our new receptionist started, she would get all worked up trying to find the person who called. I finally told her that she will most likely get these calls every day.

If our guys want you to call back, they will leave a message! If they do leave a message, LISTEN TO IT BEFORE YOU CALL BACK!!!!!!

ACK! It annoys me every time.

I had a little fun with this just this week. I accidentally called a wrong # on Monday. After Hello's back and forth and a couple of who is this' I realized it wasn't the right #. They called back to ask if I needed something. I said no and hung up. Who's calls back? It's a wrong # Geesh...so I decided to have fun with this person. I texted him on 4th of July "Happy 4th of July Stranger" to which he replied "Who is this?" Then called me twice still wondering who I am. Persistent fellow whoever he is. That just made me want to taunt him more...so on go the text messages..."Happy day after 4th of July" to which he replied "you too". It just went on and on until I was like geesh it was just a joke. He then finally called me and was like do you know me? I just laughed...and ended the call. He said well have a nice day. I said okay and bye. How funny! The end so I thought. Well, his friend called me today on his own cell still trying to find out who I am. I said to just tell him it was a joke and chill out. Have a nice day! bye!
