Seriously, WHO does this??

We get these calls daily, and I hate them. I don't know why anyone in this office would be calling you. If it were important, they would have left a message. Have you ever thought it might be a wrong number???

This used to happen all the time at a HUGE insurance agency I used to work for.
And the dumb receptionist would actually YELL out "who called so and so??"!!!
Now I ask you, who is crazier in this situation?? :rotfl: :rotfl2:

"It's a great day at Company X, we appreciate your business, this is lyzziesmom, how may I direct your call?"

That's weird, they make you give your DIS name.....or do they make all employees go by that naming system? What if you have more than one child? What name does your company give childless people? This would get very confusing, very fast. Are companies even allowed to do this? We should do something about this.

I get this all the time myself! It amazes me the number of people who call someone back just from a caller ID number! I get people who call me back on my cell phone when I've misdialed before...

If I don't recognize the name/number...it's not worth the time to call them back! :)

That happens all the time! If I misdialed I just hang up, if you don't recognize the number it probably wasn't a call for you! Yet they will insist on calling me back to see why I was calling them. Most times I don't even remember what they are talking about.

My DH will get all up about it when he sees a name on the ID that he doesn't know. "Who is Joe Smoe?" Me "I don't know" Him "well, why is he calling here?" Me "I don't know and I don't care" Him "Did you call him back to see why he called" Me "Nope" Him "why not?" Me "If he really wanted to talk to us he'll call back but it was probably a wrong number"

He'll just go on and on about it, but he never calls them back, he just annoys me about it.

Did you forget one of these? ;) or one of these? :rotfl: or perhaps one of these? :lmao:

I call back text m essages whom I don't know teh number of. other than that, I don't bother. But people call me back like that all the time. usually it was a wrong number and I hung up before they answered.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one this happens to! I only wish I had the kind of spare time to sit around worrying about who is calling & not leaving mesages. *sigh*

Curiosity killed the cat. :cat: And maybe someday soon, it will get all the cats out there that can’t leave well enough alone. :rotfl2:

I was just telling DH how this happens at the office we have. I say well it was most likely me calling to set up a template or install a counter top for you. What is your name? Then they just want to give me a phone #. Then they are all suspicious. So then I'm getting tired of this game & say are you getting a NEW COUNTER TOP?

You know why people do this?

Loneliness.

They see a new number on their caller ID, and suddenly there's a world of possibilities opening up. It could be someone they met years ago trying to get back in touch with them. Old friends, old lovers, business opportunities, sweepstakes wins. Mostly, they're just hoping it's someone to talk to.

It's the same reason car alarms beep that cheerful hello to people in parking lots. The same reason telemarketing actually works sometimes. People these days are desperately lonely, and will do just about anything for simple companionship and conversation.

Even annoy the heck out of receptionists.

Don't believe me? Start a conversation with someone who does one of these calls. I guarantee you can keep them talking for over half an hour.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who deals with this on a regular basis.

I work for a technical recruiting firm, and what's even worse is the women who will call for their husbands. "Hi, this is Mrs. So and So, I just sent over a resume for my husband and was wondering if I can talk to someone about openings?" I feel like saying, "lady, if he can't even pick up the phone to call on his own what makes you think we can help him?" :teeth:

Oh, and I also agree that some of those people who return calls from caller id's on their cell phones can be downright aggressive! I once dialed my sister's old cell number forgetting that she had changed it that week. I got another woman's voicemail, so I hung up without leaving a message. About 11:30 that night I got a call from someone. Our conversation went something like this...

Me: "Hello"
Her: "Ya, you called me."
Me (not remembering the accidental phone call from earlier): "I'm not sure who this is. I don't think I called you."
Her (getting angry): "Yes you did!!"
Me: "No, I'm pretty sure I didn't."
Her: (now yelling) "You did call me, this number was on my caller id!!!!"
Me: "Well if I called you I'm sorry. Good night."
Her: click

What is wrong with people?

Daily. Except, the person usually says: someone called me..I say who...they say they don't know. Then I say..well did they leave a message...they say, yes, but I haven't listened to it yet. Ummm, that's when I tell them to listen to the message and then call back. Idiots. And we don't have a receptionist at work, we all answer the phone, which makes it ten times worse because I'll get people on the phone that will insist that they just spoke with me, when they really didn't.

Ok so I work at a large company at the front desk, and at least 10 times a day, someone will call and the conversation goes something like this:

Me: It's a great day at Company X, we appreciate your business, this is lyzziesmom, how may I direct your call? (yes I have to say that every time)
Caller: Hi, um, someone called me from there earlier/yesterday/last week and didn't leave a message, I saw the number on my caller ID. Who called me?
Me: I'm sorry, I'm not sure.
Caller: What company is this? What do you do there?
Me: This is Company X, we do this & that.
Caller: Well I don't know why you're calling me. Who called me?
Me: We have over 200 people here, I'm sorry I don't know who called you.
Caller: Why didn't they leave a message? I don't understand why you're calling me! Is there someone I can talk to?

Seriously, WHO does this? I mean, if an unfamiliar number comes up on my caller ID and no message is left, I just hit "delete" and go on my merry way. Has anyone experienced this or done this, and for goodness sakes, WHY?? :confused3

LOL! I am a receiver, and I make about 20 calls a day to tell people that their orders have arrived. What I love is when people call back and ask who called them, when I KNOW I LEFT A MESSAGE!!!!! Or, people who call and say, "Someone left me a message that I order arrived, and I just want to make sure." Well it's such a good thing you called to check because I make fake calls every day just for fun!!

I've got a different perspective on this. If you dial a wrong number, why can't you take the extra few seconds to say "sorry, wrong number." Cuz if you don't, and you're calling my cell and wasting my minutes, I don't see why I shouldn't reciprocate. Many times, I get calls that hang up just when I answer. Do you know how frustrating that is?

Unless Company X is the State Lottery Commision or PCH! I aint calling back!!! And like others I too feel sorry that you HAVE to say that EVERYTIME you answer the phone! :grouphug:

I've gotten this at home. Once was when I misdialed and another was when I had made a ton of phone calls for volunteer work. I pick up the phone and get "who is this and why are you calling me?" Very rude!

If there is an answering machine, I leave a message. But now with caller ID there are lots of people out there not answering or taking messages - just hitting dial and demanding to know who's there.

I did call back once to some telemarketer who was constantly calling and not leaving a message. It was the same number all of the time. I work nights sometimes and that week I was getting home at around 3am. They would call the second they legally could waking me up every single morning. By the time I would get to the phone they would hang up. You bet I called them and told them not to ever call my number again.
