After much review of threads on Disboards, it would appear that there is no consistently decent place to get a Table Service meal at Disney Hollywood Studios... Is this true??? Please tell me where you have had a good Table Service meal at Disney Hollywood Studios... We'll have 4 adults and 3 kids and want to get some good food before Fantasmic.
Thanks!
(What would we do without Disboards?!?)

We have been to the following at DHS:

Brown Derby
50s Prime Time
Mama Melorse
Hollywood & Vine

I agree with many posters that BD is a bit pricey for what you get, but it was OK. We liked 50sPT and MM (other than some slow service at MM the last trip).

H&V is the only place we've tried at DHS that we would NEVER try again. The food and service were both horrible.

We are thinking about trying Sci-Fi in a couple of weeks (and I hear it is fun for kids). However, if you are open to the idea, you could always take the boat up to the beach club and head over to Beaches and Cream.

You have three choices, as I'm sure you know: Hollywood & Vine, Mama Melrose, and Brown Derby (Brown Derby is 2 credits per person). We've done H&V twice--should have stopped after the first time, but we try to give each place two tries. It was a mistake--bad service, bad food, filthy restaurant. We did Brown Derby six years ago and were not overly impressed. We had bad service at 1:00 in the afternoon with only five tables occupied, the food was mediocre at best. We've not gone back a second time as we don't think it is worth two table credits. We've done Mama Melrose four or five times now. We've never had a BAD meal. I won't say it is the "best of Italian food", but it is good and we've always had great service.

***I should have said three choices if you want the Fantasmic Package.

If not, we prefer Sci Fi for lunch over dinner, and 50's Prime Time is okay for either meal. Neither of them are great, but the food has never disappointed.

We've only been to Brown Derby which was good, but more just ok. nothing special. Also been to Sci-Fi. We really enjoyed sci-fi actually.

We always eat at the 50s Prime Time for lunch or dinner.

We love (and our kids always loved) Sci-fi. We also get consistant good food at Mama Melrose. We enjoyed Brown Derby, and found 50's ok, so guess our only one that we don't care for is Hollywood and Vine. Never understand all the bad reviews for the others.

Our favorites at DHS are:

Mama Melrose
Prime Time
Sci Fi

My best answer is to look at the menu and see what you think you like. Just because one person doesnt like something doesnt mean you wont.

We had a good dinner at HBD last year, but I do not think it's worth the price or two credits on the DDP.

My kids really like 50s Prime Time, so we're doing lunch there this year.

DH really likes Mama Melrose, so we're also having lunch there.

We've been to both places twice and never had a problem at either one.

I would suggest that you try Sci-Fi Dine In or Mama Melrose's. The Sci-Fi has OK food but the atmosphere is fun. Your kids will love it :). Mama Melrose's food is better. I tried Prime Time twice and didn't like it at all. I have never been to Hollywood and Vine.

If you're trying for the Fantasmic Dinner Package...we liked both Hollywood & Vine and Mama Melrose. However, H&V, like all the Disney buffets, was very hectic & noisy, so our preference now is Mama Melrose. We enjoyed the food there, and the service was good. While still full of families, of course, it was not near as noisy/hectic since it is a menu-style restaurant.

we have been to 50's PT, Hollywood & Vine...on previous trips....we went to Brown Derby for our first time on our last trip for thanksgiving meal!

We liked 50's PT the best...:woohoo:
We did not experience H & V being dirty..actually had a really nice tasty meal there, and the kids had a blast with the little einstein characters..

Brown derby wasnt really worth the price iMHO.
You can read the review in my siggie link.

Sci-Fi is a MUST for our family every trip. The burgers, onion rings and shakes are something my entire family LOVES! When I start planning our trip, my kids always say "What day are we going to Sci-Fi?" This is their favorite but we only stick to the burgers, onion rings and shakes.

Another vote for the Sci-Fi. The food was not terribly great, but it wasn't terribly bad either. The atmosphere was alot of fun, and our whole family (me, dh, & 3 kids) enjoyed it.

My husband's #1 pick at all of the 1 credit TS meals in WDW is always 50's Prime Time. I guess he likes him some home cookin'. ;) :)

What we have done is get to DHS early, ride TT and RR several times then all the others with lunch do a CS at Top Story Pizza, then hop to EPCOT by boat and dine at one of the many EPCOT restaurants or stop at Boardwalk and go to Spoodles. Then watch Illuminations maybe we do that 4 of the 7 nights we go. If you want to stay at DHS get the fantasmic package at Mama Melrose.

For my family, Brown Derby is a top choice - kind of pricey for what you get but the food is fine. Service has been good when we ate there.

H&V is OK - standard buffet fare. Restaurant has always been clean when we've eaten there, service was good. Nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either.

Mama Melrose is consistently mediocre. Think Olive Garden but with a more limited and expensive menu. And no free salad and breadsticks. And it seemd to have the slowest service of any sit down at the Studios. Not necessarily bad, just very slow.

Sci Fi is OK for lunch if you just want a burger. We don't care for the "car" arrangement as one of us ends up sitting alone and having to turn around to talk to the other two. Might work out better if you have even numbers. The clips get annoying after the first time through. And the service is slow enough that you will see them all at least twice!

Best of the bunch is the 50's as far as we are concerned. But that won't help you if you are trying for the Fantasmic package. When we do that we try H&V first, then MMR, then Brown Derby (which seems to be more available, probably because of the cost)

I personally loved 50's PT. I had the roast beef and it was AMAZING!
